So:
I've got a mazda 3, 2008 2.0 sedan. Just had it taken for a roadworthy and it needs new front struts. Mechanics are quoting me a fair bit ($600 for the two), but i figured I should be able to buy all the parts, as well as the tools for this and do it myself, for about half the price.
Considering I've never really performed maintenance on my car, I'm a little anxious about it, but I feel like It's worth a shot.
I'm pretty sure I've sourced what I need:
Axle stands
Trolley Jack
Socket Kit, Torque Wrench, Extender
Coil Clamps
New shocks
Youtube videos don't look outrageously difficult... Anyone got experience with replacing macpherson style struts?
Any pointers you'd suggest for me before I dive into it?
>>16347937
Just get it done, its not a job that is as easy as you make it out to be. Especially not for someone with no real wrench experience. You'll fuck your car up so bad, not trying to down you, but shit m8, talk about taking it to ten.
>>16347937
>$600 for 2 struts
You can replace all the suspension parts for your car for like $300
Also don't listen to him >>16348064
You learn through hands on experience. At the very least get someone to help you wrench
>>16348064
fuck off

Project is showing cords, where is the cheapest place a guy can get tires. Don't care if they are used.
>>16347597
>skimping on the only thing keeping you on the road
skimp on a lot of things but don't skimp on tire
Used tires from your local shady Mexican tire shop
Just get the low-grade tires at Walmart if you wanna be a cheapskate.
Hey how you doing I just brought a 2000 Toyota 4runner, saw it on the sticky and liked what I saw when I looked into it/saw the car.
A few questions, when is it ideal to use the 4wd, and can someone explain the 4hi and 4lo to me so I really understand it. Also, any general tips as far as driving a car like this? I've only driven smaller cars. And I'm confused, when I look at the owners manual it has two different size tires. Does that mean either or is fine and just preference? What would be the pros/cons of going from 16 to 15 with a car this size/weight?
>>16347424
4hi is for general/light offroading and snow. 4lo is for when your to trying get up steep hill or going through some deep mud.
>>16347465
Is it possible to shift while moving in drive or will that damage the engine or cause me to spin out? What if I'm in cruise control

I want a body exactly like this
How the fuck did the inline 5 and volvo suddenly turn into a meme here?
>>16347267
it started as a defense against people memeing V6
like all things /o/ it got out of hand
Volvo has been a meme since the time when I was banging your mom.
>>16347267
TURBOBRICKS
v6 memestanging happened, and the i5 was brought up as a countermeme. I personally hold the i6 to be the best engine ever made, but nobody besides
>german engineering
are dabbling with them any more.
How are the new Volvo's when it comes to reliability?
Safety? Check
Style? Check
Power? Meh. Respectable.
Price? Kinda okay but still a bit expensive.
I guess you can't say much yet since they're currently changing the engine lineup.
Also, fucking hell, those wheels must be ENORMOUS so that they were able to reach that high up to the beltline. Reaching that far up looks great and reminds me a bit of the low-beltline cars before the 2000's but geez.. those are massive.
>>16347257
GOTTA GET THAT TRI TURBO
Mechanically they're okay but their electronics and software are buggy shitfests right now.
>300hp V12
>1,940lbs

How in the hell was this thing a race car again?
>>16347216
Damn dude it did the quarter under 60 mph? Noice
dang
how could it not be with that 1/4 mile in 1962

I'm buying a 1984 BMW 325e tomorrow.
What should I expect?
>muh 325i
>>16347180
Why not an i? Drive further until you find one.
>>16347192
Why not a big huge Holley carb?
>>16347198
Because you could spend your modding dollar on an i and have an even better car. 40hp difference stock for stock.
I'm seriously considering this.

Should I?
>>16346912
Don't let you're memes be dreams. Go ahead, fuck yourself over.
>>16346912
why are you asking /o/ if you want to spend 34k on a 21 year old sports car?
If you actually have the cash I'd assume you'd be able to make decisions on your own.
So Im gonna assume you are underage and are playing pretend.

Hey /o,
Tomorrow morning I will be buying a 2007 Rabbit 2.5 with 143000 miles. Automatic for Wife reasons (she knows how to drive stick, but often forgets she is while driving)
Car drove well, did not over heat. Shifted well.
The only problem appears to be no A/C but I am comfortable with replacing any/all parts involved there.
The price was 3500 but negotiated 2800 including taxes, titles, fees, and plate.
No CEL codes shown on VCDS
Looking for any and all opinions before pulling the trigger.
I don't know man. Ac repair can be small but usually its a big problem.
If you value cold air then kys for even thinking of this.
If not then pull the trigger.
>>16346800
If that's the car it's really clean for that price.
>>16346800
>Automatic for Wife reasons (she knows how to drive stick, but often forgets she is while driving)
>mustang
>supercar
>>16346632
>things nobody said
Well, now that I think of it, the GT350R WAS faster than the NSX around Laguna. Maybe it is?
>>16346632
It's a supercar by European standards, considering the average car there is 60hp and the mustang is pushing 600. You guys seem to need a big $100k V12 and twin turbos to hit 600hp.
can we have a civil stance thread? post flush
>>16346280
No, because you faggots come into threads that ask for no stance and start posting your garbage there.
>>16346280
I want /r/cars to leave
Stancefag roll call

Exploding torque converter edition
You didn't even use the right format. Nice one, dipshit.

mitsubishi lancer
Will you ever fuck off you autistic shitfuck?
its funny that everyone immediately knows what a lancer looks like
but when i post pics of my 550whp evo x everyone starts forgetting what a real one looks like
Any of you fags have experience with auxiliary lighting? I'm looking for some lights for my street car. Something with some throw and not a lot of spill on the ground, something that will be useful at higher speeds.
Was looking at these: http://www.kchilites.com/light-type/led/gravity-led/4-x6-gravity-led-pair-pack-system-kc-711-spread-beam.html
I put a pair of those generic big ol' round ones on my explorer, but that was more for darker woods than anything on the road. Easy enough to set up and wire, just dont shit wire it. Send power through a fuse AND relay. And get some good grounds to it from the frame. It will be worth the extra time, trust me.
RI light bars.
>>16345741
Also, sometimes there will be pictures of the beam pattern a set of aux lights throws, see if you can find it before you buy, so you know how far and wide the light goes. Or someone on youtubes probably made a night video "reviewing" them, because everybody needs to review everything nowadays.
