So I'm looking at getting a truck or some type of suv which can be used as an off grid vehicle...
I have my eyes set on something but am having trouble purchasing it since there's a lot of options out there
Would you drop a large payment on a vehicle from carmax or look for something on craigslist only???
>Its 2017
>I don't really know how to buy a car
you dont want a 2017 as an off grid vehicle. you want something with as few electronics as possible. get an old k1500 with a carbbed 350.
Off what grid? What point of putting up a tent and throwing a fishing rod requires an SUV?

ok a truck than?
How much would it be to throw a B20 in a EF civic how hard is it im assuming itll just directly bolt in like most hondas what do i need to buy besides the engine, ecu and harness, engine mounts has anyone done this before please show your builds : )
If you have to ask, you aren't ready to do an engine swap.
probably over $2000 since you will have to get a shop to do it
>>17790648
why do i need a shop to do it?
I was riding my scooter and it started making vibration noises they were intermittent the faster i went the faster they went. It was like driving over drunk bumps on the side of the highway. I think i narrowed it down to the cvt. So i took the cover off and didnt do much but clean the cover of debris. I put the cover back on now it wont start. It was running before i took the cover off. I need help
>>17790420
It should run without the cover, I've done it before, is there a safety switch? a ground?
Not that i see, i saw videos where they had it running with the cover off to but mine dont. And even with the cover back on it wont start
How much does an average second hand shitbox car cost per month in the US ?
Here in Europe the cheapest I could get it to was 150$ with not a lot of driving
>>17790333
I pay 50 a month for my miata, and even that's a lot. Doesn't include collision on my part tho
>>17790333
Just insurance, or are you including monthly taxes/fees, fuel costs and maintenance?
>>17790333
I never paid attention because I have an abundance of money and live well below my means as a consequence of having no social life and no interest in things that cost money that do not go VROOM

You're lucky if you don't blow the welds on your intake.

Bikes are two wheeled, mid engined, use the engine as a stressed member of the frame, and the front suspension for steering.
That is an open wheel racecar.

Hey /o/! Didn't find a QTDDTOT, so I'll make a new thread
Just got my first car today, was wondering what improvements I could make to make it drive better?
It's an old mk2 Fiat Uno, cost me 500€ and seems in pretty good shape, only 62 000 km.
>>17789979
Don't do anything until you actually get some driving experience, remember to keep to the speed limits too
>>17789983
I've been driving my dad's car for a couple years before so I've got experience, but this is the first car that I can call mine so I'd like to spend some money on it to make it drive as best as possible
>>17789994
yeah but first you gotta learn how it drives to determine what areas to improve. follow /o/'s "advice" and you're liable to ruin the car for yourself.
can you give me a reason why I shouldn't?
They're not particularly good and you can get better cars for the price
>>17789855
Owned one, loved it, Big W202 chassis fan.
Transmission could die at any moment ($3k to fix) , you can get a Lexus Is300 for the price and get a much better car.
>>17789855
One day on the stop lights someone will roll up beside you in an w140 s600 and look all smug at you. Part of you will die that day and you will never recover after realizing the fact that you bought a poor man's w140 lookalike.
Is it worth selling nearly everything it I own for a fox body mustang? Really want one tbqh!

Hey /o/ I can't be fucked going in to work so im going to ring up my boss and say my cars fucked and i cant come in til it's fixed, Hoping to get 2 days out of it.
Whats something that i can get away with saying. I'm thinking like i was driving to fast and hit a pot hole and cracked something in the engine bay. What could i say ?
>>17789731
Why the fuck would you tell them what happened
You say that driving was your means to work but your car broke down. You have no alternative transport
>>17789770
this; more details is more story you have to remember and fabricate later. keep it simple, stupid.
>>17789731
>mfw someone at work tried this
>'my car won't start'
>we work at an auto manufacturer
>as engineers
So I actually heard that installing a blow-off valve is a bad thing. Can anyone explain to me why is that? I thought losing pressure, instead of letting the turbo surge is a good thing?
I'm mostly asking this in case of turbo Subarus but apparently it's true for other turbo cars as well.
>>17789645
>asking for Subarus
Subaru guys correct me because I'm going off of what I read in 2007, so I'm more than likely wrong. It's because the engine comes stock with a bypass valve that recirculates the pressure back into the intake system when you let off the throttle. A regular BOV goes straight out.
The fuckery comes due to where the MAF is placed on Subbies, this fucks hard with the ECU when you have a BOV installed and makes your ECU cause your engine to run rich for a split second.
Again, correct me if I'm wrong.
Eh bad or not sound is too orgasmic to not install it
im 25 years old and want 1983 Mercedes Benz 300td as a daily driver. Is this a good idea?
How much should I pay for 1 that is rust free with 200k miles in New England?
>>17789543
How much expendable income to you have? Is it enough to be $1000 to death when issues start? If no, get a Volvo or a subie
>>17789548
Are you saying I should have $1k put aside just in case if something were to go wrong? if so yes. Also even though I want to work on it myself, if I were to run into problems i have a few euro indy shops in my city.
Also FCP Euro is based in my city as well so that helps a lot.
pic related is the car for I'm interested in.
>>17789543
Good choice.
