so Mazda is adding the 2.2 The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 (SH-VPTS) turbodiesel as an engine choice on the new 2017 CX-5. 173hp, 310ft-lbs.

My pos 98 4Runner is at 200k starting to get increasingly unreliable. Going to the car lot tomorrow to check out the new models. Anyone has the new one that wants to share their opinions?
How do you fuck up a turd gen? They're pretty beasty and usually stay quite reliable for a pretty long time.

Ford® 3.5l EcoBoost™ V6
The year is 2002:
>Audi A4 3.0 Quattro sold with 220hp v6 engine, CVT transmission for $39k
>VW Passat available with a 280hp W8, shares Torsen-based Quattro AWD and chassis with the Audi A4 and 6spd stick or TipTronic no-cost option. $38,500 ($51k adjusted for inflation if you care).
>Audi sells millions of A4s, W8 Passat lives alone in basement with no friends.
Why are Amerifats such brandwhores and completely incapable of appreciating true Teutonic godmachines?
P.S. Don't even bring up the Phaeton.
>>16447608
Nobody, anywhere, wants to pay that much for a Passat, especially in the early 2000s when VW was only just starting to move itself upmarket.
That, and the W8 is hideously unreliable if you don't keep up on maintenance, and hideously expensive when you do.
>>16447608
You have to think of the markets for those cars and the price. If they put a Coyote in a Ford Focus and priced it at $60k, do you think they would sell? I mean it would be a dank car but they wouldn't sell for shit.
It's also the same reason there isn't a 300HP+ FRS/BRZ or a new Supra. We would all love to see those cars so we could buy them used in 10yrs for $8k with a rebuilt title. But the people with $40k+ to spend on a car don't want that.
280hp from 8 cylinders seems like shit efficiency in the 21st century t b h

history of honda is usually a good one
Hey /o/
I've got an old cargo van that I daily and we just got ass blasted with snow over here. My tires are pretty bald all seasons.
How do I make her better in the snow?
I can't afford better tires right now, so is just filling the back with sandbags my only option?
Drop the pressure as low as safely possible and add lots of weight in the back.
>>16447381
Recommended is 36 front and 40 rear, how low pressure is still "safe"?
>>16447361
My dad used to swear by liquid chains by AC Delco. They banned that stuff years ago, but I know theirs other companies making a similar product.
Considering buying a '95 Volkswagen Passat. Mint condition, almost identical with pic related except it's painted silver rather than white. No air conditioning or electric windows, but otherwise anything else.
1.9 Diesel Sedan Version
My dad had a station wagon version I still see every now and then on the street, that one had AC and electric windows on the front, but I'm more of a sedan guy.
Opinions?
1,500 euros.
>>16447240
My dad's got one of these, except a '96 with the 2.slow 8v. Automatic. Like 230k km on it now, was in great condition when he bought it like 16-17 years ago.
He keeps up with general maintenance, sort of, and the thing has been stupidly reliable aside from a few minor electrical glitches here and there (sensors taking a shit and such) and usual "old car" wear stuff (rear shocks, brake lines).
Red ones tend to have their clearcoat flake off, not very relevant for you.
The 1.9 TDI is another one of those engines that just won't die.
No way I'd touch a 90s european car with a stick, they're nightmares to repair. Get a japanese car instead.
>>16447330
Confirmed for never having been under the hood of a B4. These things are simple as fuck unless you're talking about the VR6/Syncro models.

what's your honest opinion on Ken Block?
hard mode: no shitposting
Kind of a shitty stage driver. His cars are pretty insane though and take a bit of skill to drive.
the gymkhana videos are cool but it also takes him 50 tries to do each turn
he failed out of WRC and got last every time
hes alright at rallycross

As far as excitement and drivablilty, it's pretty shit. It lacks the dynamics and feel that should come with a proper sports car. It also lacks the practicality of a similar soft top convertible, as the big top takes up tons of space in the trunk.
...that said, if you're looking for a hardtop convertible that looks decent and doesn't break often, it's ok. Considering the only other options in this category and price range are old Mercs and shitty Chrysler Sebrings...
