/o/, help me choose my next car please? I want to spend under $5000, my last resort will be leading a base Kia Forte with no options, but I really don't want to do that.
My previous cars were:
>1997 BMW 328iC
Loved:
>styling
>rwd
>convertible even if it wasn't practical
>engine was bulletproof
Hated:
>just about everything else, it was old and high mileage so repairs were often and of course pricey
>retarded shit like a completely plastic cooling system
>no steering wheel adjust
>leather looks great but I was always afraid of it cracking
>no room for people or cargo
>awful city MPGs
>2003 Nissan Sentra
Loved:
>reliable
>fuel economy
>cute shitbox looks
>roomy yet compact
>Nissan actually gave this car a not entirely dead suspension
>early 2000s plastic aesthetic
Hated:
>1.8L engine with 100 horsepower
>cheap interior kept breaking
>hubcaps
>things were always breaking that didn't stop me from using the car, but if I got a routine inspection I'd end up having to fix them all at once
>2001 Oldsmobile Alero
Loved:
>it's a car
>reasonably reliable
>nice stereo I guess
Hated:
>underpowered V6 and 2 ton curb weight = worse MPGs than my Bimmer
>ugly, unapologetically so
>seriously, it looks like you've given up
>softest steering ever, and I've driven my grandma's Avalon
>literally everything
Thanks

So you love practical, stylish, high MPG cars with sporty steering? For less than 5k?
Twingo
Bmw e30. Sporty, bulletproof engine, easy to fix yourself, stylish, and will probably hold its value better than any sub $5000 car out there.

How old are you? Why have you had so many cars? Post your local craigslist
Hey b/o/ats, should I buy this vessel? The market up in Halifax is kinda dry right now but I'm looking for something I can stay far away from the American """"revolution"""" in comfort and this is all I can find. I was the cook on a sailing ship recently but I'm pretty mechanically inclined.
>1763 construction year
>American (lol I know but proper English boats are too expensive)
>The advert I found at the pub says it "needs TLC"
>The main mast needs replacing (easy fix), some spots on the hull have surface rot but no leakage yet (nothing a bit of pitch can't fix)
>He says the whole hull will need to be re-caulked in about 2 years
>"Mostly cruising" nautical miles
>Owner is selling it for just £1,000 which seems sketchy as fuck
Talk me out of it guys, I really don't want to sign on with another privateer ship when I could just cruise the Arctic sea for months at a time.
>>16450832
shut up and buy a jolly boat for 3k
So we talking sail operated I'm assuming? You know it takes multiple dudes to run a boat. As I'm sure you know because you've been on a boat.
>>16450832
>built not bought
>needs a crew
>only attacked by pirates twice
>water damage
>no low ballers (or spanish puffs)
>I know what I got
in all seriousness
>1000
considering you can get a new sloop for that much I'd say its about to fall apart.
Don't be like Barrett and his """""""privateers"""""""""
Don't get a budget kingslist ship.
Hey guys. I've got a 96 Silverado on a set of 15X7 alloys. Wheels came with it and finances are kinda strapped atm. I replaced the front's with 205/50/15 because they were getting chewed up extremely badly with my hard driving (rubber balling and such on corners) now the rear is a 225/75/15 and I think I may have run into some heat cycling or something because the tread is okay but they're old and they're losing grip steadily.
I don't tow or haul more than 50 pounds in the bed and I've got almost 400 torque so I need something to help put it down because right now I'm having trouble leaving a red light normally on a dry day but the water gets muddy because of my driving style. I do like to romp from redlight to redlight but I also do a fair amount of late night mountain runs (I know it's a full-size truck but I enjoy the challenge) so I need something with a piss stiff sidewall without going too short as to ruin my gearing. I'm sitting around 1850 rpm at 60 with the 5 speed manual.
Thoughts that are not sell your truck and buy a car? Pic not related but goals IMO.
>>16450766
These are on my mind right now. I've got Yokohama S-Drives on the front.
>>16450766
Cooper Cobras in 255/70r15. You can get them for $85-100 each depending on where you go.
I run them on the stock 15's on my truck, they've done me well for dd'ing as well as hauling shit in the bed weekly.
>>16450942
I've heard those are trash as it gets. And again at 255/70 they'll roll right off the rim in the middle of a hard turn. Or spin my shit up coming out of it.
Hey /o/ I just wanted to say thanks.
I came by 6 months ago asking for advice and feeding vinbro vins. I've had this 2002 Saab 9-3 SE for about 5 months now and I'm in love. Every cheap car I've ever bought was just plastic and gross on the inside. I feel like I'm driving a $2500 Rolls Royce.
I flashed the ecu with a .bin that tricks the TCM into thinking its not going over torque limit(this is a 4 speed automatic) and also changed mapping. It was $50 and some spark plugs.
It is literally the fastest car I've owned now too, and incredibly reliable. I've replaced brakes, rotors, all fluids, and even had to do a bearing/clutch for the A/C condenser. Its got about 85,000 miles on it right now but it hauls ass and looks like a white person car. I don't have an exhaust on it or bigger fuel injectors yet, but I think I might just keep it a sleeper.
I still wanna know who stole my fucking blinker on the day after Christmas though. I'll tear you in fucking half bro
>>16450732
Good choice OP. That's an excellent car.
>>16450732

How to drive my FWD auto tragic shitbox on all season tires in the snow, /o/?
I can't get to work because the ice and snow on my hill are too much, if I go up the hill I get stuck and can't find enough power to clear the ice. I've also never driven in snow before 10 minutes ago.
Buy chains, reverse up the hill.
Just call in then
My neighbor laughed at me for having all seasons... he has a big pickup truck that could clear the ice no problem but he won't give me a ride, what a cock.
Hey /o/tards, been in Japan a while, and I have 3 more days in Tokyo.
This isn't /trv/, but anything car related to check out? I'm all ears.
what part of tokyo
>>16450639
I'm staying near the Nakano Shimbashi station, but with a Suica I can travel a bit no problem.
Other than Super Autobacs, which looks like a good time already, I'm game for anything
What do you think about the different faces of the F150 for 2018?
F150 Sport 4x4 front.
>>16450508
Engine upgrades -
"The 3.3-liter V6 is expected to offer the same 282 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque as the previous model's standard 3.5-liter V6."
The 5.0-liter V8 also sees improvements in 2018, as the naturally aspirated engine features significant upgrades for increased power and torque. It's also paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission for the first time.
>Diesel Engine For the F150
The 2018 F-150 also adds an available all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine, designed, engineered and tested in-house and paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission. It's the first-ever diesel engine offered for F-150.
You know what they say Ford stands for, don't you?

Can anyone tell me why have the rotaries not been used more in rally?
Aren't they technically the perfect rally engines? Small, light, low center of mass, can produce decent power, sound cool as fuck.
Is it even possible to do an AWD rotary?
>>16450092
Why wouldn't it be? AWD is just transmission stuff bro.
It also mainly comes down to the fact that most WRC cars use the same basic engine that comes in the base car it's designed from, just built up. Since this is the case you could only use RX7 chassis mostly for rotary builds, which is a stupid idea and Mazda doesn't really do WRC anyway.
>>16450146
Right, but back in the day the engines were not really the same, right? You had fancy shit like Subaru's boxers, and so on.
>>16450092
Because rotaries were not exactly widespread, for most manufacturers it was cheaper to modify existing piston engines for rallying than designing a rotary engine from scratch, with all the problems that come with "inventing" something from nothing (mostly reliability issues)
The manufacturers that could use rotaries were probably not interested in rally enough to dump investments in that kind of power train for that kind of racing discipline.
Plus the rules now only allow for piston engines, and have been like that for a while.
Thinking about buying one of these three pic related. Is the 2JZ-GE as good as it's hyped up to be? anything specifically bad about any of these?
If you're willing to go auto, SC300/400s can be found for very cheap. Manuals get into the "iknowwhatigot" prices.
>>16450052
I'd take whatever I could find in good shape. Planning on using it as a daily, the 2J or UZ both seem pretty good.
Leaning more for the 2JZ though, I'd like to eventually do a GTE swap and make something fun.
What kind of car is this?
your mom's

two with gas in it
If given the choice, would you take a third gen prelude or a fourth gen celica?
Lude
The Celica for the AWD because fun and the liftback because I regularly have to carry my bicycle around.
Apart from the superior liftback even if you want a useless coupe the Celica's got you covered.
