How does /o/ deal with winter ? its pretty cold here in yurop atm, and having my car parked outside i get frozen windshield from both inside and outside, adn the car doesnt even start 90% of the times
also do you let your car idle for a bit before you go to heat it up or no ?
>>16458154
mix water and alcohol in spray bottle and spray your windshield, shit will come right off
let your car idle for about a minute to get the cold oil circulating but dont idle it any longer than 1 minute unless you just dont give a fuck and want hot air before you get in
>>16458154
Where the fuck do you live and what car do you have?
>>16458154
Norway here, I make sure to BLAST the windshield with ice cold air for five minutes before parking, get less ice on the window. If the inside of your car ices up you should fill a sock with kitty sand and leave it somewhere to absorb moisture, drag less snow inside.
I always let the car idle until normal rpm or the windows are clear.

are turbocharges unreliable? i keep reading articles about how they fail early and often. im considering getting a car and some of the cars im looking at have turbos. they have better performance and mileage usually but is it worth to have an extra part that might crap out?
i want my next car to save me money during the long run
depends on how they're designed
Not inherently, the only turbo petrol car I had did shit a turbo but that was a ceramic turbo at 20 years and around 100k miles old.
Even rebuilding a turbo isn't that expensive but the engine can be damaged too by trying to compress bits of broken turbo as mine was.
Depends on the engine they're on and how much boost they're running. Yeah a Volvo or VW turbo gas engine will last forever but it's also a cast iron block with a 3 psi turbo. A 1.4l aluminum block running 20lbs stock and putting out almost 200hp is a little different. You should also keep up on oil changes and not run the cheapest watered down gas you can find. Also let the turbo warm and cool down sufficiently.
All this extra shit to worry about doesn't really make sense for a econobox imo.
Could someone please explain to me why these new cars have these MASSIVE fucking center consoles and, to make things even more confusing, they have automatic transmissions? All they do is eat up gobs of what otherwise would have been great legroom.
An automatic shifter needs to be on the fucking column. Period.
No it doesn't. Fuck off.

Get a fucking manual faggot
>>16457359
So automatic cucks can pretend they are driving a manual.

is it hard to change your cars coolant?
can i get some tips on changing my coolant? 2013 honda civic
No it's easy. And this is what you do. Leave the car running for 10 minutes. When you're done go to you're radiator and open the cap. Remember the point of this is to remove all the old coolant that was in the radiator and fill up with the new coolant. Always look over and see when you open the radiator cap to see how muh you have to fill up. Good luck anon. Keep us posted

I've got a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
No heat
Go to replace heater core
Heater core looks brand new
Replace anyways
Still no heat
Check lines
All clear
Maybe waterpump
Engine temp sits perfectly normal on a 4 hour drive
Any thoughts?
1. Check heater core for flow
Just run water through it.
2. Check heater core valve operation
Check the electrical or whatever connection there is to the heater core. If it does not work, either replace it, rewire it properly or just delete the valve.
3. Check actual coolant flow
Run the engine and keep a hand or thermometer on the coolant pipe running to the heater core.
4. Verify operation of blend door actuator
These can go bad. Make sure that your heater controls are actually moving the blend door properly. If you have coolant flow to the heater core this is more likely to be your problem. If bad, replace the actuator.
t. I don't like Grand Cherokees and this is why.
>>16457119
Unplug the inlet hose from the heater core, put into bucket, turn on jeep, see if water comes through.
You've got a plug in the system, or serious air in it that's not being pushed out of the heater core.
theres usually a heater control valve that controls coolant flow to the heater core but a quick google and i dont think cherokees have that. next option would be blend door not opening properly. feel the heater hose going to and from the firewall once youre at normal operating temp to see if they are warm and the core has flow, if it does then it could be clogged cabin filter or a bad blend door
My sister has a 2010 Chevy Malibu and most of her gauges just quit working at once. Her gas, and speedometer. What could be causing this? I'm a rookie with automobiles so that's why I'm asking. Could it be a fuse or some type of sensor?
>>16456990
If it was multiple gauges I would suggest looking at the fuses first.
>>16457088
This
If the fuses check out it could be the entire cluster (I know alot of 05 to 08 chevy's had problems with the cluster itself)
>>16456990
>What could be causing this?
Domestic build quality.
Is it beta to leave your hand on the shifter when you're driving automatic?
It's beta to drive an automatic in the first place
Dunno about beta but it definitely makes you a bit of a wanker
Keep doing it please because it lightens up the day of anyone seeing you doing this.
Also, if you do this with a Manuel, you will also make your mechanic happy.
Everyone wins
