Redpill me on Haldex.

Why is it considered shit?

Why is it considered a meme AWD?

Why is Torsen better?

>Redpill me on Haldex.
Haldex faux awd. It's front wheel drive and sends no more than 50% of the power in the other wheels whenever it detects slip.

>Why is Torsen better?
Torsen has diffs, which are not available in haldex. Also it's not fwd biased.

>Why is it considered a meme AWD?
Because people go around saying they have awd cars, despite them using haldex, and audi uses it in the cheaper quattro model iirc which only escalates the problem.

>Why is it considered shit?
It's prone to malfunction if left unchecked, especially in the early generations(which we're used by the original generation audi TT for example). And because it's glorified fwd.
>>
>>16481667
But anon, it's still AWD when you need it, right? What's wrong with that? Why would you need AWD at all times?
>>
>>16481667
you need to explain why awd would make a difference when you're crawling in traffic at 10mph or trying to park?

Depends what you want to do in the snow.
My commute to work this morning in my BRZ made me very happy but I could have done it quicker in the W12 because it can put it's power down better with AWD in the snow. Either way it's stopping distances that are the limiting factor and the number of driver wheels or there arrangement don't change that.
>>
>>16481157
RWD is most fun but AWD is most effective, only if it does not have a super heavy front bias. FWD is just eh, it gets the job done but not very well.

You mean the new Fiat Tipo?

A co-worker at my last job bought one just before I switched jobs.
It look really good with the 17'' wheels. It's way bigger live than in photos. It's bigger than an 1 series.
For the price, it's really good value for money.

Am I the only one a little bit disappointed by the show?

I feel like The Grand Tour picked up where Top Gear left off last season - a mildly entertaining show featuring cars.

Top Gear's new formula on the contrary features actual car reviews (2017 M2, 2017 NSX, 2016 Focus RS etc) while The Grand Tour's reviews of the NSX and Focus pales by comparison.

The only thing that comes to the quality of new-Top Gear is James May's bit on the Ford GT40.

I just want to see them doing silly shit together like the nature based frame episode.
Seeing them zip around in the latest and greatest is nice and all but its not as fun to watch.
Its almost like they want to be a legit car show.
>>
I just want to see them get issued challenges where they have to compete with cars they chose.
Seeing them act out scripts is not fun to watch.
It's almost like they want to be film stars.

Well /o/, I've fucked up entirely. I think I fucked up my life and my parents are ready to boot me out of the house, this is all because of /o/'s favorite meme car, the AE86. My parents gave me spending money for graduating University with a high GPA score, I truly thought hard on what to spend the cash on and I was browsing craigslist's for weeks, then my parents suggested a nice sporty car that wouldn't break down on me. Lo and behold, I thought an AE86 would be a perfect car, especially after browsing /o/ throughout my uni life.
So I began the hunt and went through countless rust boxes, "I know what I've got", "No low ballers" and more "I know what've got!". After growing tired of searching I found the perfect "cheap one", it looked like a steal. I went to pay the owner a visit, it was some old lady whose husband had passed away and had the car sitting for quite a while, she didn't specify how long but it didn't matter to me being the dumbass I was, I didn't even ask what engine it was, where the rust spots were or any specific important questions about it. I bought the car straight away with pure emotion, I spent $7,500 fucking dollars.
>Mfw I found out the car had the weaker 4AC carby engine and NOT an actual 4AGE and this was AFTER I purchased it.

>Mfw the head gasket is going to blow at any second
>Mfw there is rust in the unibody and a repairman quoted me $5000 in total, and body work isn't even included.

If your the stupid about cars you shouldn't be driving a 30 year old car anyways

I found this in the garage, I'm assuming the former tenants moved out and left it here. It's from a Toyota model, I'm not really sure. Would anyone have an idea?

Hello /o/ If you are in the Appalachian Mountains or want to drive there you should come and drive with us in April. The Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, or West Virginia are all invited (or more if you want to drive).

Lets make this meet up happen and shred up the mountain. We all know the Appalachian Touge is a wonderful place to drive, and April is warm enough to cookout but still not summer time so we can hopefully not be swamped by tourists. We need to determine where would be the best place to start and we need to come up with a route. Let us know where you are located and where you think we should drive, or just talk about driving in the Appalachian mountains

AC Parts.jpg

My car is almost 20 years old and has 150,000 miles. AC has been discharged for well over a year. This means moisture has fucked all the AC components, right?

That means even if I repair myself (which would take me a long time to do and I might fuck up), would cost me at least $725 with parts from AutoZone (not including the cost to discharge from a mechanic since I don't have an air compressor). Or I can pay the dealer or a mechanic $900 to $1,200 or more to fix it.

The winter is bearable wear a coat & gloves. I'm in the South, so it gets hot as fuck here much of the year, especially summer.

What are my options? I mainly drive to and from work (normal 9-5 hours). I have a big, cheap box fan in the back seat that worked okay this summer. I'm thinking of replacing it with a smaller, better air circulator (Honeywell) to throw on the passenger's seat (costs about $28). I guess I can throw some ice in a bag and throw on my neck on the commute home from work, and of coarse go barefoot while driving, etc.. Any other ideas?

At this age and mileage I don't know how much longer I'll have my car, so it doesn't make much sense to spend money on it. I've done a few things myself like change the headlight bulb and fix the driver's side window that wouldn't close. These were inexpensive repairs.

If the AC clutch engages it should work. You can check the clutch manually by applying 12V power to it from your battery.

A little bit of moisture isn't going to fuck up the system completely.

Replace the drier and buy two cans of AC top up and it should work.

t. someone who has removed a leaking AC condenser and refilled the system completely

Bump. I want to get 2015 c300 .
>>
>>16484475
You can google it. It's very not-cheap if you do all the scheduled maintenance.
>>
If you take it to the dealer, every year the service alternates between $300 and $600. That includes oil change, wipers, some greasing, etc etc. Brake flush every 2 years at $100. Transmission service (fluid flush and filter) every 40k miles at $400. Apparently there is a seal toward the back of the heads that likes to crap out around 50k miles. New battery is $200. They like to wear the outsides of tires (suspension geometry is so-so). CV boots are another common wear item on the 4matics.

That's been my experience so far. Had one for 4 years. Good, solid car though. No regrets.

If they're in the same housing and designed like the counter part they're replacing (like an H4 bulb) you should not need to re-aim your headlights.

Does that answer your question?

So despite getting my tires replaced, my Focus continues to make a horrible soul-piercing roar in the cabin, growing its worst at around the 45-55 mph mark.

Where would be a good, affordable place to get a wheel bearing replaced? I've already gotten myself hosed on tires, I don't want to fork out 600 bucks trying to solve a problem I thought would already be resolved by now with new tires.

Buy bearings from rockauto, jack that shit up. Replace.

Not sure how ford does their wheel bearings but they either bolt the hub assembly on which is ez pz. Or they are pressed into the knuckle which will require a hydraulic press after you remove the knuckle.

What year? Front or rear? Have you found play in any of the wheels? Are you sure your brakes arent dragging?

You can usually beat pressed-in wheel bearings out with a big hammer. I used a 4lb hammer and a big socket to knock them out of my Integra's hubs. I put the new ones in using a giant bolt and some giant washers with an impact gun.
