Have you ever finished a project car?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9BJaGKE92M

if you say a project car is never finished than it means you are a quitter
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
My project truck is never finished because its a project. Swap to a 4.0 V6. Then I want a 302. Then I want a 390 crammed in there. Redo the interior. Now want camo leaf print instead of leather headliner. I want bucket seats instead of bench seats. Etc.

Your project car/truck is nothing but a hobby. It never ends. If youre building a race car or a restoration then thats a different story.

I can't afford a Local Motors Rally Fighter. Would it be a horrible idea to buy a used Rx8, swap in an LS3, lift it, and throw on some Off-road tires? Anyone else have pipe-dream builds?

It'll cost twice as much as you think it will and take 3 times as long

Just buy a Neon SRT4 and spend the rest of the money at a professional driving school
Because driver skill > the the car you're driving

Just ask the rich chinese kids at my local track getting passed by Miatas and Civics in their Ferraris

Yes thats a horrible idea.
Most LS swaps are horrible ideas anyway.

Good luck finding an unmolested SRT-4.

Thinking of getting a 2005 Ford Fiesta ST as my first car. Got around 3k euros to spend, considering a 2003 Renault Clio Sport as well, but the Fiesta seems to be a bit more comfortable.

Any other cars in this price range with similar/better performance I'm overlooking?

I thought of getting a BMW/Audi/Volvo/Saab wagon but I feel those are heavier and don't have as good handling.

An R53 will knock spots off both of those for a similar price, but parts are more expensive

The ST? Maybe. The Clio 182? Not in a million years.

The Clio's interior feels incredibly cheap, but my god are the chassis and engine good.

Considering buying a 1st gen Mustang to replace my current car.
I drive maybe 10k km a year at most and use public transit to go to work so gas consumption and reliability compared to modern cars should not be too much of a problem.

Anything I should be aware of? Any specific model or details to look into or avoid?
From what I read, I should avoid the V6 models and search for a 289ci V8.

/o/ is probably going to parrot a bunch of shit but as someone who actually daily drove a '67 I'll answer some questions

>Anything I should be aware of?

Learn how to adjust a carb if you don't already, should be plenty of Youtube videos on that.

Rust will be your biggest enemy. The first gen Mustang has no frills so it is very easy to work on and modify.

>Any specific model or details to look into or avoid?

Fastbacks are more desirable than coupes but other than being objectively better looking there's no benefit of the fastback style over the coupe. I would just go with the one with the least amount of rust.

Also a good point that most people look past is weather stripping. That shit is bound to be older than your grandma so if you live somewhere wet or plan on driving on the highway a lot get ready for lots of road noise and water leaks.

>From what I read, I should avoid the V6 models and search for a 289ci V8.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure no first gen Mustang came with a V6, they are all straight sixes. A positive is they are insanely easy to work on because they take up virtually no room in that humongous engine bay but the performance compared to even the smallest V8 is laughable and the gas mileage is pretty much the same. All of the engines offered in first gens are decent as far as reliability goes imo, I'd go for a Cleveland 350 personally for the extra torque.

How "wet" are we talking about? I own a garage so it won't be resting outside and we got a fairly temperate climate.

Looking to buy a new car. Wanna know which of the two ya'll would recommend: Mazda 3 i Touring Hatch (2015 - 2017) OR Chevy Cruze Hatch Premier (2017)

I'll end up paying 14 - 17k with either one after trade ins and talking them down and all that, but im anticipating getting the cruze cheaper. There's one listed at a local dealer brand new for 20,000 when originally they go for nearly 30 at the premier trim level. So that's particularly appealing. There is also an LT lower trim model for 15,000. Could probably snag that for 5, but I'd lose some amenities...

With the Mazda 3 I'd most likely spend a similar amount. There's a used 2015 i touring for 16 at a local-ish dealer. 7k miles on it so it is like new but, for similar money the Cruze is new. However I do prefer the exterior styling of the mazdas and they appear to be better drivers, performance wise. 2 liter vs 1.4 liter. Both come with Bose sounds systems. Identical gas mileage. however the cruz has heated seats all around and has 4g lte hot spot. Both also seem to have very similar infotainment shit. real tough desicion here. I suppose it comes down to that the mazda looks nicer on the outside, and has a slight performance edge to the cruze.

What do you guys think?

>>
I think the Mazda will hold it's value better and be a better car overall. There's a reason the new Cruze is so cheap new. They depreciate like turds and aren't really built with lasting in mind.

I was tempted by the new Cruze too when I saw the price the hatches are going for right off the truck, but for another grand or two you can have a civic hatch turbo so just can't justify it.

Mazda has already depreciated a bit so will depreciate slower and still be reliable and nice.
>>
>>17799149
the mazda. ive been looking at used cars and the mazda holds value so well that I cant afford to buy a used one because its too expensive. it almost makes sense to buy new cuz the used ones are so expensive
>>
>>17799161
are mazdas relatively reliable? being an import its always a worry of mine that repairs would be costly. I had a bmw 750 that really broke my wallet for sure. I know germans and bimmers in particular are pricey but I just want to avoid that again. I know chevy shit is dirt cheap after owning a blazer and repairing it several times. It also comes down to getting a brand new car vs a car with some miles on it. granted 7-8k miles is hardly anything, it still isnt brand new. Where for the the same price i could get a brand new vehicle with a warranty.

I've been looking at getting a 2009-11 Jeep Wrangler found this one for $19,500, Automatic, with 70k miles on it. Just wondering if anyone who has bought a wrangler has any suggestions or advice to give.

About what most go for around that mileage. Check underside, see if anything is rusted and how bad. Check suspension and ofc other major(i.e engine, electronics). Have a shop look it over if you're not sure. Have only owned pre 2k and live in salt belt so, what I end up having to do. Was considering buying an 06. Found suspension was shot. Dealer ended up replacing it few days later but jacked price up of course. Keep an eye out for other deals. Can also ask local dealer to find you one with your budget/ preferences.

Their alright. A lot like a Hardbody with a VG33 wrapped in a unibody frame. Handy offroad and compliant on road.
Although, a gen 2.5 Montero exceed is similar, but better in most ways.

except being rustproof, electric gremlins, and interior quality

All of that is bullshit. Only real problem with them is the vacuum operated free-wheeling system can be fickle with higher mileage vehicles (easy cheap fix if you understand the system) and they drive a bit more like a truck than the R50 Nissan does.
