I'm 25, never had a car and graduating University in September, I don't have a job lined up but I'm going to start looking straight away. I have money saved up to last me until I find a job.

My question is, do I get a Twingo on Finance before finding a job to help get to interviews and the job when I get it? Are they just a meme? Do grown men drive them?

You can get a cheap mk1 now.

I still drive mine from when I was student, and I earn tons of money as IT consultant.

Even the late ones with high specs and low mileage are dirt cheap.

Hello /o/, I'm having a misfiring problem with my 325i e36 and would really appreciate some theories on it. My engine has around 36,6 thousand original miles atm

My second cylinder is failing intermittently. What I mean by that isn't that the problem comes and goes as I'm driving (when it shows up it never goes away while riding along), but rather that it'll show up on a day, disappear when I start the car the next day and such.

So far I've ruled out spark plugs and coils by switching those around with those of a working cylinder. I meant to try and hear if the injector is working today, but as I said, intermittent.

No leaks on the valve cover (actually there is one in another cylinder but that one never misfires), no oil smoke on the exhaust during the misfires and no oil or dirt on the piston. I checked for those by cranking the engine with the spark plug out and a rag covering the hole.

So far my guesses are: failing injector or faulty wiring, either to the injector or the coil. My mechanic intends to check for valve problems, but since the problem goes away I'm not so sure if it could be valve related.

Any other suggestions? I'm taking the car to the mechanic on Saturday, but with the possibility that it doesn't misfire for that whole day I'm trying to narrow down the problem as much as I can beforehand. Also my car IS NOT A M3, despite pic related.

I should also add I've had a similar problem around 3 thousand miles ago, but can't for the life of me remember if it was the same cylinder.

Cleaning the injectors solved it, but back then it only went away for a very brief moment while driving and then kept misfiring until fixed.

I've also had a few misfiring problems in the past months when turning on the car, but those went away after a few revs/a very short warm up time
>>
>>16557716
I would say it's an injector.

Get a multimeter and test each injector's resistance (Black to one pin, red to the other, to complete the circuit), either look for an odd one out reading or find out what the specs are supposed to be.

Or you could listen to each injector, see which ones not firing, bit hard with it being intermittent.

I wouldn't rely on switching the parts around and hoping the trouble code moves with the part, often the code won't move until it's been driven for a while.

How old are you Leads, coil pack and plugs?

Check your HT leads, make sure there is no signs of arcing or damage in general.
>>
>>16558735
I'm seeing no trouble code at all, weirdly enough. I switched things around because if the problem was the part the misfiring should move with it.

Everything else is original (meaning over 20 years old), but since money is short I'd rather replace them gradually instead of doing it all at once to try and solve this.

I tried inspecting the leads, but honestly I'm not big on wiring. As long as a cable doesn't have visible marks of violent bending or squashing it looks fine to me

I'm in the market for a car and I'm currently looking at a 1991 Honda CRX. I've already read the sticky and read all of the advice on inspecting and test driving. I also plan on taking it to a mechanic that I trust to look it over for me before I decide on purchasing if it passes my initial inspection and test drives.

I'd like to know if there are anything specific things that I should look for when it comes to this model, year, and knowns on its current condition.

>1991 Honda CRX
>206000 Miles
>stock interior
>after market hatch
>cracked windshield - Any idea on how much it would be to replace or repair this?
>$1500

Any general advice that the sticky didn't cover would be appreciated, too.

Would there be a way to check if it was stolen or was in an accident if I could check the VIN or something? I was originally thinking that it's so cheap because nobody drives manual around here.

The big "fear" for us should be the fact that the general populace dont want to drive - for them its a necessary evil

It'd be great for all of those people to get their own self-driving cars, removing nearly all of the accidents, no more/minimal traffic jams and so on, but I kinda do fear the "ban manual driving cars for safety" thing actually happening

Still, it'll be quite a while. They're in the very babysteps of making it work under near-perfect conditions and under heavy surveillance, and I'll enjoy watching how they tackle the issues of snow & ice, GPS interference, towing and the likes

I think my driving is secure for quite a few more years

Fuckin' normies and snow, for real. HOLY SHIT IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME AS EVERY OTHER YEAR BETTER FORGET THAT I HAVE LESS TRACTION AND BRAKE JUST LIKE IT'S SUMMER
>>

Pretty much this.

The bulk of people these days don't drive to enjoy the experience of driving any more.

Personally, I blame cars being made to focus on performance and MPG effectiveness and the concept of comfy rides being a thing of the past for the most part.

I know I didn't start to love to drive until after I got a panther platform with a super comfy interior. Now, road trips just to take them is something I actually look forward to and have visited all the surrounding states using the back highways whenever I can for steady cruising.

Be advised, if you use those back highways instead of the interstate, be prepared to experience equal parts of 'man, nature is pretty' and 'Holy shit, my country really is dying.' on your trip. Anyone who thinks the USA is doing great needs to just take some highway trips and see all the dead infrastructure, shuttered towns, and warehouses and shit falling into ruin all over the place.

He sucks at driving. He doesn't have a license. He wants to use my car for his test to get his license.

I'm scared. I don't want to tell him know because he's a good friend, and I want him to get his license. But, this car is my baby.. :/

I'd let him drive pic related, but he can barely drive automatic, let alone my beater truck to pass his test.

Faster than the 675 in a test conducted by Ford themselves. They didn't even bring a 488.

In the fleet truck world GM's tend to last the longest and take the most abuse. Ford is second but they usually get replaced every few years before they start to fall apart.

>>
They meant the bed falls apart on aluminum Fords and the Ford fuel pumps shit out leaving you stranded for no reason, while the Dodge nukes it's transmission if you look at it wrong, but everyone buys the Fords anyways because better interior for mall crawling and the dodges look angrier so people buy those anyway

What and how are your experiences?

In terms of reliability, performance, etc and do you regret it? Everyone I ask who owns one says its a nightmare but none of them regret it which is odd. Just trying to figure out why.

fun to drive shit to maintain, why would it be hard to understand?

Oil changes every 3k are ezpz
I daily drove for three years, only hassle was the cabin heat in summer traffic and shit tier mpg but whatever it's a fun car not a civic
No reliability issues in that time until I decided to limiter bash first gear and bang
>>
I own one, '94 R1 package.

Don't regret it, just make certain to go in knowing what you're getting yourself into. Oil changes every 3k miles really aren't that bad, pre-mixing not 100% necessary but recommended as it'll keep everything in better shape.

Apex seals aren't as much of an issue, just put in one of the newer ones (not OEM) that are designed to just bend a little when they go bad instead of shattering all over the fuckin' place. These have been around for the last decade or so, not precisely hard to find, just gotta' put the order in online.

It's a nightmare compared to most other cars, sure, but nothing that isn't manageable and really not that bad once you've established those good habits. Once you get used to it you don't feel like you're doing that much unless you're DDing the fucker. For most rotary owners, those 3k miles come up as often as oil changes in conventional ICEs (or less), because most people don't daily drive them.

The other anon is right. The FD, especially, is bad about cabin heat. Drive with windows down during the summer. Turns out the engine designed by a nazi does a good job of roasting the vehicle's occupants. Who knew?

Hey guys. I finally moved to Chicago.
When I have read the road law, i was surprised.
To get driving licence, you must have a friend who will give you a ride to DMV and gives you his shitbox to pass the test.
I understand that most of you get your licences at the age of 16 with father's car, but I haven't nether father in US, no friends.
So, how can I get local driving licence? I have an international one, but it sucks, I want local to get cheaper ensuranse.
So, can I find some friends with shitboxed on /o/?
I am from Russia, if it means something for you.
Mail me [email protected] (2ch is russian 4chan) if you want to friend with me, and give your shitbox to pass the fucking driver's test.
This is my shitbox i have sold in Russia, it had dead transmission, so i was have to shift down with double clutch pushing and intemediate throttling like Takumi every time.
