Looking to buy a winter beater tomorrow and have my heart set on a 1994 Subaru Loyale 4WD wagon. Everything works good except the reverse is out, automatic transmission. The seller mentioned something about a possible vacuum leak in the car causing this. Could it be something that simple? Car is otherwise mint and for $500 obo it's tempting.

Ive looked into it. Most places want you to use your own vehicle. Many places require a truck or van and they dont compensate for fuel. Look into companies that do drug testing. The big companies have company vehicles. GL anon.

Do you think that if / when we start to colonize other planets we'll still have racing?
Mars has some pretty fucking insane valleys and canyons, stuff like this would be perfect for long distance endurance rally races.
Of course its atmosphere is too thin to properly power an internal combustion engine, so all the cars would need to be electric which would add a whole new dimension to it.
And don't forget the reduced gravity, which not only means you can pack more mass into your vehicle without significantly weighing it down, and can get some sick air off jumps.
Maybe it's not feasible at all, but it sounds pretty cool in my mind.

If a high mileage car has an engine/tranny rebuild, new suspension bits and new bushings and mounts, will it basically drive like new? I don't really care much for interior condition.

Thats not usually the case.
If the used car you bought was super raged on for 200k then it might be having some failure in the spot welds, but that takes some rally racing or something....not typical daily driving.
Dont buy a used 24 hour of lemons car and you should be ok.
If you are gonna rage on the car then it might be wise to run some stitch welds over every overlapping panels on the cars chassis, but you need to know how to weld or you're gonna pay someone else big bucks for that.
Very time consuming.
