Problemo, /o/.
I have a '00 LS400 (thanks to your recommendations) and I fucking love this car. I've decided to stick with it instead of upgrading to the LS430 because I just feel that adding a GPS screen and all those doodads aren't for me.
HOWEVER, I have a few nits to pick that I would like to address. Primarily, I don't like the dated 2 tone paint and would like to dip or wrap the bottom half to match the upper half - resulting in an all-over pearl finish with the chrome strip. What's better long term, dip or wrap? I plan on keeping this car for as long as it lasts.
The other nit is the seats but I'm having the front seats reupholstered with perforated leather soon because the drivers side bolster panel is deteriorating anyway so might as well.
Anyway, LS love thread too.
Dip is not a permanent solution.
It will get noticeably gross especially in white and eventually peel off.
I don't know much about wraps but that sounds like your best bet. I don't know if you can wrap just the lower half of your car, you'll probably want to just wrap the whole thing.
Why not just paint it lexus pearl white?
>>16935642
IDK about wrapping the whole thing, I do really like the paint, I don't want to lose the chrome belt around the car and if they're cutting the vinyl to show the strip, why bother doing the top of the car? Seems like it would be cheaper too. Not only that, the paint gets a lot of abuse down there so having a wrap on the bottom half seems to make sense from a practical standpoint.
Pic related, but never mind the tacky white grille. I'd probably have the bottom grille done in black to match...maybe. Maybe only the vertical bits in the lower grille in black.
I guess this is where I wish I had photoshop skills.

The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport, spoiling you for when you get something else. But it can also corner much better than something like a cruiser, and actually uses its entire rear tire unlike a Ninja 250.
> brakes
They are complete shit and their only redeeming feature is that they're disc brakes. This is good because the longer braking distance forces new riders to plan ahead and start braking early. No ABS means they learn to brake properly I'd they don't want to get shrekt.
> power
It sits right at the power limit for A2 bikes which is great for euros. It's torquey enough to be faster off the line than most cars you'll encounter in the city. But it also feels relatively gutless so a) it's forgiving of mistakes and b) you can ride it at the limit without putting yourself into too much danger. It reaches up to 180 km/h which is fast enough for highway riding.
> carbs
It being carbed means that if you run into problems, you can learn to fix them yourself instead of heading to the mechanic every time.
> seating position
Upright, slightly forward means it's a neutral riding position so you can figure out what you want afterwards. The seat is relatively uncomfortable making literally every other bike after it will feel like heaven on your ass.
> price and availability
Parts and the bikes themselves are cheap and plentiful. If you crash and fuck up one of your fairings it's 40 euros to replace it with original parts. Engine needs little maintenance. Beginner riders are typically not financially independent, so this is a big plus for them.
> suspension
It's a budget suspension factoring into the overall low cost of getting a GS 500. If you want better suspension it's easy to swap. Therefore it gives beginners an opportunity to learn working on suspension while keeping the cost manageable.
off to a good start
>at o'reillys

>say that I'm gonna go and get it from the other store
>go across the street to advanced auto to get the part

How the fuck does a FF car do the ring in 7 min 47?
That's just as fast as a 997 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Lamborghini Murcielago and BMW M3 GTS.
I thought FF was slow?

Dump it into third gear. Like brake checking with no brake lights. Also, you're now in a better acceleration gear to avoid a collision.
What should I know before buying one of these?
they'll be worthless within a year
It's called a Punto because you punt-o the tyres every time it breaks down.
Dead easy to work on.
Major components are fairly reliable, but quality of smaller parts is shite (half the center console lights and fan controls no longer work properly in my 07, and one of the door handles snapped off but it's an easy fix)
The cars and parts are cheap, and they suffer from horrible depreciation.
Seriously why do so many people dislike Porsche?

Where and how..? if anything people will circle jerk sniffing their own farts talking about how great they are and everything about them is.
Have you seen 911R Videos? specifically the one by motortrend?
>this wingless slower transmission equipped GT3 RS is the bees knees!
>everybody places a preorder on the latest edition of the 911 Magic The Gathering cars to collect, store, and trade.
Nah, not a lot of people hate them and anybody who does there is equal or greater hate towards any other car anywhere else. doesn't seem to be as much autism around them as there are with BMWs though. its one of the reasons i loved motortrend's 5th gen mustang vs E92 M3 and thier Camaro vs current M2/M4. pretty much broke the

What does /o/ think of Bamses Turbl Underpants?
For those who dont know him, he is a Finnish dude who has made 3 seasons about building and rebuilding a volvo 242 with about 700bhp.

Don't care
>>16934375
He has a rwd wagon that dd's and does burnouts with
Redblocks are honestly the best, you can take a 110hp engine to a reliable 300hp just by putting more boost and fuel through it.
What should I know before buying a 350 Z?
do your own research you fuck
/thread
Size of a Mustang, practical as a Miata.

a lot, it's a 15 year old sports car that is susceptible to a lot of problems. get on with the research, kiddo.

Honda insight gets better
I have a 1990 Volvo 240DL with 346k miles on it and I am having this really weird issue where when I'm coming to a stop the car will sometimes stall like when you let out the clutch slowly on a manual transmission without giving it gas. It's not a jerky stall just dumping the clutch. It's like you are slowly letting the clutch out while holding the brakes. but this is an automatic. The car will start right back up no problem after it stalls and I can keep going down the road fine like nothing happened.
It's really hard to trace the problem because it only happens about once every few months.
Is this just a quirk the car has because of it's age and mileage or is the car starting to show signs of wanting to retire?
any opinions or advice is appreciated. I love my car and I would really like to fix it. If it's transmission related maybe I can just manual swap it.
>>16933432
I don't know about Volvo specifically, but I used to have a 545rfe that would do this. It was the torque converter lock mechanism (a device designed to increase efficiency at high speed by essentially stopping torque converter slippage.) When it fails to disengage at low speed it can cause your engine to stall.
I agree with >>16933486, does it happen more frequently when you're pressing the brakes hard? Or just creeping up to a light?
>>16933518
its 100% always when creeping to a light. I've never had it stall when braking hard.
I have a Ninja 250 that I've had sitting for three years at least without draining the fluids.
What would need to be done to it to get it running again, or is it a total write off?
I'm a total bike retard. Never done more than oil changes, and changed chains and sprockets so apologies if this question is stupid.
>>16933304
Did you try starting it?
Here's what you will need to do
>Drain all gas
>Take carbs off
>Clean them (use Google)
>Take all fuel lines off and replace them
>Replace battery
Should be good. You'll want to bleed the brakes as well but that can happen whenever
Maybe run fresh oil and drive it hard for 100mi after the above and change it again to help clean the engine a bit
