I dunno. Let's wait for the experts to weigh in
>>
Fast enough for what?

Anyone with an EK civic or Mustang GT and $5000 in mods will make you look like an old diesel volvo if they are building for just that purpose.

Do you work with high-earning fuccbois just out of college with a finance degree that spend 2/3 of their paycheck on a Nissan GT-R or M4? You'll get stomped.

Do you just want to have power at any gear and speed and be faster than 96% of the shitboxes on the road by a lot? Yeah, it's pretty fast.

Miata will be easier to work on, and will have better aftermarket

Miata allows you to fit more stuff in it.
ZZW30 handles better.

ZZW30 has only-the-stuff-you-need aftermarket.

Trying to add more power via support mods now that the K04's in. Am I better off running meth injection or getting a better intercooler? What about both? I'm in Florida and it's hot as fuck year round.

Any other modifications I should be considering? Not very caught up on the current aftermarket for the MK6's.

1999-Toyota-Avalon.jpg

Howdy, /o/, could use some advice/opinions!

I am currently driving a 1999 Toyota Avalon that looks almost exactly like pic related.

I inherited it from my deceased grandfather nearly a decade ago and since then it has been a reliable juggernaut. It's up to nearly 110,000 miles and is still in great condition. Wouldn't surprise me if it kept going until 200,000+.

Only real downside is the MPG (around 22 according to KBB). I also don't really need a car that can sit 6 people, which it can do.

So I've been toying with the idea of trading it in for a more fuel-efficient vehicle, in order to save more money in the long run. I'm very hesitant, however, due to this Avalon's reliability and lack of mechanical flaws. I'm also unsure how long it'd take for the newer car to pay for itself.

So, you guys think this is worth doing? And if so, what would you recommend I trade it in for? I'm basically looking for the automobile that will save me the most dosh over an extended period of time, through a combination of high MPG, minimal repair/maintenance work, and reasonable upfront cost of course. Maybe a used Prius?

>>
I should mention that KBB estimates its trade-in value range at $692 - $1,211.
>>
>>16938386
It depends on your budget, I'd keep it until you can afford something under 5 years old with under 50k miles on it. Otherwise, you're just looking at unnecessary expenses to save pennies on gas.

22 mpg isn't terrible, if you practice hypermiling to any extent you can get that up to 26.
>>
>>16938386
>car gets 22mpg
>costs you almost nothing

>buy new car
>gets 28 mpg
>have monthly payment, higher insurance, higher taxes

The choice should be obvious.

What can I expect from a 1993 N/A RWD Previa in terms of reliability, ownership costs, insurance, etc.

Thanks!

Service costs shouldn't be too bad but it might get expensive if you need anything replaced since it's pretty old now. Insurance should be low.

Those things have like a negative 5 star safety rating though, so you'll probably bite it if you crash into a smart car at 20mph.

>What can I expect from a 1993 N/A RWD Previa in terms of reliability, ownership costs, insurance, etc.
One thing to look forward to is everyone dieing should you get in a crash.
The Previa is mid-engined which means there's less space up front for energy absorption.
As a minivan, the Previa is behind its competition in every measure. That's why they don't make mid-engine minivans anymore.

If you want a minivan you can hot rod, there are better, safer, options.
At the top of my recommendations would be a 4 cylinder Dodge Caravan or Plymouth Voyager. the 2.5L and 2.4L I4 engines have plenty of aftermarket support and are both more than capable of being sleepers.

Aside from that, look into the Mazda 5. Dimension-wise, it's almost identical to the original Chrysler minivans. And it's based on the compact Mazda 3 and Ford Focus, so yes, they are very hot roddable.

>Those things have like a negative 5 star safety rating though, so you'll probably bite it if you crash into a smart car at 20mph.
And the people in the Smart car would walk away with no injuries.

You have a budget of $20000, you must come up with the best car for a downhill course with sharp turns. And no, I'm not talking about Haggard Garage's definition of touge.
