Is the 1999 Chevy Malibu reliable? I've heard they're boring as shit but I found a great deal on one and am going to go check it out.
Bump

>Is the 1999 Chevy Malibu reliable?
Check the VIN for its service history which should have no gaps and consistent odometer mileage gains to show its odometer was not disconnected.
No one is really saying anything because that generic platform car you're thinking of buying is almost 19 years old. If you are comfortable working on your own car's engine, then that is a different matter.
Being reliable is not a good thing with this one. I would rather drive anything else. I suppose it beats the bus. They suffer from the same LIM issues as any GM V6 but there's nothing really unreliable about it. Just slide behind the wheel and ask yourself "Do I really want to spend money for this?"
Why do people act like FWD to RWD is so impossible?
I dont see where frabrication is needed
cant you just run a driveshaft down where the exhaust shaft is and delete the entire exhaust shaft and put some little side pipe there? like whats the issue? most cars have huge bumps on the interior already for the exhaust
and what if you just rip out all the computer and electronic stuff and go to carbs? i mean why not? anything goes if you're a mechanic
Shit m8, you opened my eyes.
Man night time /o/ is where magic happens
>>16981828
Have you ever noticed a fucking RWD car has a huge bulge through the unibody for the driveshaft to guy? You know the transmission and driveline tunnel? Guess what FWD cars don't have.
Hell, even in RWD cars the lack of an adequate transmission tunnel is why the Dodge Charger is only offered as an automatic, despite the hellcat trim.
I have a choice between two cars, a 2003 Honda Accord DX 1 elderly owner 89000 miles very clean. Or a 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS 2 previous owners presumably young considering the plastidipped wheels and badges and the fender bender on record. It has 84000 miles and the interior is very clean exterior okay. The Elantra is more money but it is also 8 years newer, anyway which would you pick /o/ pic unrelated
Well what is the cost of each car?
Honda Accord
>>16981807
The honda is 5000 the hyundai is 9000
Which vehicle brand has the worst fanbase?
My vote goes for Tesla. The people over at /r/teslamotors are extremely pretentious and condescending. It's just sad, really.
Subaru
They're just as obnoxious as some Honda fans, but also condescending to boot.
>>16981678
Nissan.
They insist they are good vehicles.
Then ignore facts when shown them.

Nothing from reddit is good
Self-driving robot cars will make stopping at intersections a thing of the past.
I kinda hope 90% or more of the population uses self-driving cars more often. It'll make driving a thousand times better for me and other decent drivers.
ok but what if one needs to turn
>>16981635
>implying non-self driving cars wont get taxed out the ass to extinction
Also, a bit off-topic, but has anybody ever pulled one of these before? I've always wanted to do it, but always been too chicken.
Hey wassup guys I'm fixing my car(front end wrecked a lot of bodyshops are charging me around 1700$ to fix the front and I brought in my friends brother to look at it he said to buy parts and 150$ in labor...I'm willing to do it but he wants to bolt on my radiator support instead of spotweld what do u guys think ?
>>16981550
troll post or retard alert
you need a hood. a hood alone is $150. Unpainted.
$1,700 is a fuckin deal already.
Good luck bolting a welded core support in place, good luck pre-pulling the damaged one prior to remove and replace without at least floor pots.
Your friend is an idiot. Your car is a total. If someone will fix that for $1,700 take them up on it.
Should be fine, the radiator support isn't very weight bearing.
So you are buying the parts
And he is gonna do the labor for 150?
My stock 07 Jetta radiator is held on by plastic and thin sheet metal so I don't see the problem
>Letting my moms family drive my Mercedes while I'm up with my dads family up north for the month
>Check off mileage at 173,540 before leaving
>Second day I'm gone my mom calls me and tells me my sister hit a speed bump at Ikea buying some ugly ass coffee table
>Tell her to take it to a friend at work who will check it out for free
>She instead takes it to a Russian owned shit shack because they're offering free car washes
>Charges her $400 for a new front shock
>Think the whole ordeal is done with
>Come back from after being gone for a month last night
>Car now has 179,239 miles and oil light is on
>Check oil level
>No oil
>Remove cap
>Emulsion stuck to cap
>Bring car in to work this morning and rack it
>There's a hole in the oilpan large enough to fit my pinky in
>Oil pan gasket is warped near the front of the engine enough that I can fit a credit card inbetween it and the engine
>My mom and sister drove my car 6,000 miles in one month with no oil, coolant freely mixing into the oil system and a crack in the oil pan
Why do women lose all forms of common sense and logic when cars come up?
How is it possible to put 6000 miles on in one month?? Sorry anon. That fucking blows

Hey /o/,
I'm in Australia.
What's the worth of a clean 1987 CRX with minimal rust, all oem, good condition DOHC D16A8 motor with 233k's and a well kept service history with only 2 owners since new?
Owner is asking $6k.
What's your opinion /o/?
>>16980953
pic is 88-91 aka second gen, the D16A8 is the stock engine for the Si model
I'd pay around $3-5k usd
t. owner of 2 crx
>>16981968
Thanks.
I'm still on the fence about it as he is firm on $5k.
It doesn't have a sunroof or moonroof surprisingly, so would that make it a HF or DX model? Since SI = Sunroof Included?
Overall I personally really like it and think it's a barn find.
But I just can't justify the price as I don't see many for sale for over the $4k mark.
>>16982222
Not sure but I think the '88 Si was sunroof optional, either that or it's not Si
With the miles it has, $5k a bit much, but it looks clean based on the picture so you could do a fun engine swap and have a reliable car that looks good. And I don't know how the market for these are in Australia but its rare to find one that's not trashed. If you're frequently catching these for sale.. my advice is to wait for "the one." Good luck!
>put your car in reverse
>THUD
>Put your car in first
>CRUNCH
>put motorcycle in first
>CHUNK
Strangely satisfying for some reason
Put your car into re...put your car into rev...REVER...roll out of drive way....put your car in f...in fir...FIR*CRUNCH*
OK I think I need to do some work on the car.
Need opinions. Is the newer models Chevy Impala a girl car? If so, I think I have to tell my parents I'm gay.
>>16980584
You waited too late, you should've bought an SS.
Now you're a faggot.
>>16980596
That's good to know. But I actually haven't bought one yet. I was just seriously considering getting one
>>16980596
So you're saying the Impala IS a girl car?
My Mechanic is Retiring, he was the best, and wasent a dick head scammer as well.
So /o/ what should i do? Should i just learn how to do mechanical work or should i just give all my hard earned shekels to the Toyota dealer to keep my 4runner on the Road?
>>16980534
How much maintenance can a 4runner really need?
Are you just talking scheduled stuff?
>>16980534
Ask him to recommend you someone to replace him.
>>16980538
Well, im going upgrade to tundra brakes
whats something with cars that you're really picky about?
