Poorfag student here with $300
I recently inherited this 2007 Dodge caliber 2.0l CVT.
It was a work car and the miles are mostly highway. It was babied.
It has a lien title because they never paid it off. Family still owes $700.
The tranny overheats on long trips especially during the summer when the weather is hot, sending it into limp mode. I wouldn't trust it much after 30+ miles but for around town it shouldn't overheat.
I made a checklist but I know I don't have enough money for all of this, and it wouldn't make sense to dump a lot of money into a car that I hope to get rid of ASAP.
It's been sitting for 2 years
Replace battery
Replace every fluid
Replace every filter
Flush CVT fluid (could this actually do more harm than good?)
Replace HVAC intake
Replace motor mounts
Replace spark plugs
Replace CVT filter and gasket
Water pump is due for replacement but still works
Check for seized brakes
Check tires for flat spots
Check Tires for dry rot
Check for condensation in gas tank
Check for work belts
(Anything else I should check?)
What is the bare minimum I can do to get this running somewhat reliably? I understand that these cars are garbage even by Dodge standards, especially with the CVT. I just need to be able to commute to work when I get hired.
If I jump start the car it fires right up and idles just fine.
Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.
Run it just like that until it gets reposessed or it breaks down. I give it two months before the car begins to idle funny. spark plugs and oilchange
The jatco CVT is utter shit, drive it until it explodes and save money in the mean time
>sitting for two years
>junk condition
>still making payments
Never go into debt for a car
RRRREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
(fuck ebay)

Is anyone else excited for the advent of electric vehicles? I can't wait to see what amazing technology and performance lies ahead.
nope
"I will never buy another ICE car ever again...."
"Once one has experienced the beauty of an electric car one is hopelessly lost for the ICE business model."

"I will never buy a gasoline-powered car again. Not because our all-electric Model S is greener, cheaper to operate, safer to drive and more innovative than our previous cars – which it is. But simply because it’s a better experience in almost every conceivable way: a better driving experience, a better ownership experience, and a better cultural experience."

Considering getting a metro as a DD, I forgot all about the car until it popped up on Craigslist. Is the mpg as good as people say? How reliable is it?
>>17034330
Get a corolla instead.
Its 10x the car and probably the same price as the geo
MPG is amazing.
Parts are cheap.
Repairs are surprisingly easy.
Safety is on par with Chinese cars.
It has 3 cylinders, so no power.
Good shitbox if you're a poorfag.
>How reliable is it?
I'm curious to know this as well.
But I do know that the MPG is the best.
what tricks do you guys use to stop people from breaking into your car?
keep literally nothing in plain sight
>>17034274
There really isn't any deterrent other than driving a shitty looking car.
Alternatively, just keep everything inside out of view of the nigger trying to break in.
I have a car alarm in case anyone ever tries to break into my beloved 90s JDM shitbox.
Drive a piece of shit and keep my good cars in the garage.
same as anyone. proof of maintenance.

**Actual Meet Information**
Meet taking place Sunday 4/23
For those that want to do a long cruise can start all the way at Fox Valley Mall, we'll start at 11
Short cruise starts in the nearby town of Ottawa. The long cruise people will run through here and meet with the short cruise people, who will all take the dankest parts of rt.71 to Starved Rock.
Those that don't give a shit about the cruise can just go straight to Starved Rock and start doing laps or whatever.
When everybody meets up, we'll make food and wait for the cops to fuck off if that happens, then start doing laps again. Which reminds me, people have to chip in to bring food and stuff. I can bring soda.
Google Maps Route (pic related, A is long cruise start, B is short cruise start): https://www.google.com/maps/dir/41.7587684,-88.2081354/41.3213821,-88.9955541/@41.5312883,-88.7482729,61580m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m19!4m18!1m15!3m4!1m2!1d-88.2068882!2d41.7589991!3s0x880ef832d67ed811:0xbe886688ece209d2!3m4!1m2!1d-88.8444212!2d41.3448012!3s0x8809546d679276e5:0x8ab3cdeda65a378b!3m4!1m2!1d-88.8402729!2d41.340389!3s0x8809546eaf676f81:0xc95ca5152384b562!1m0!3e0
I see two Focus STs on the roster. Can I come with my stage 3 Fiesta ST?
>>17033220
So I gotta drive a half hour just to get to the start of an even longer cruise?
And if I just want the "short cruise", in other words I don't want to drive long, I need to drive 1h15m? And in the process, pass the start of the long cruise?
I live pretty far west of Chicago too. Who does this benefit that actually lives in Chicagoland?
>>17033356
I live in chicago and I'm not complaining like your autistic ass
Don't see one in the catalog, if these are still a thing anymore.
