There was a lot of really forward thinking car design between the mid 80's and early 90's.

the Ford Taurus came out in 1985, and yet defined Ford styling for almost a decade

They used it in Robocop as the police cars solely because at the time, people thought it looked really modern and futuristic.

Consumer Reports says the 2015 Optimas are all green/reliable.

My second choice was a 2014.5 Camry SE Sport with the 2.5L, it's about $1,000-2,000 more though.

If it is decently responsive and shifts quickly than it likely won't matter. Paddles are always a plus.

Ideally a MT is what'd you want, for a sports car, but a nice auto is not bad if the deal is right.
