Do not buy. Someone on Jalopnix wrote a stupid article saying this would be the new Meme machine. It's a good value until you have to pay your purchase price or more fixing shit like old steering/suspension bits, bushings, Optisparks, failed ZF gearboxes (4L60e is cheaper and easier to replace but it's auto so /o/ will never respect you), etc.

Basically, it's an old car with none of the things that make older cars worth having. They're not easy to work on, parts are not cheap or abundant, they have not aged well like cars 10-15 years older.
>>
>>17098984
But a lot of this stuff was patched up with the 90s model
If anything I know the ZF isn't the greatest and I'd just drop a t58 in it and cal it a day
>>
It's a 30 year old car. You're gonna fix it. They're still quick enough to have a good time, and they handle better than anybody would give them credit for. In pro level autocross they roast e36 m3's all day.

I messed up guys. Bought a 2001 VR6 Jetta off a Danish guy yesterday, didn't look at the title too closely and turns out it was a salvage. 100% on me for being a dumbass and not paying closer attention.

The guy was advertising it as clean title aswell as claiming the timing belt, water pump, and clutch were replaced 5k miles ago. There is also a ticking sound in low gear which he claimed was from a loose bracket or whatever on the exhaust. The car also came with a bottle of power steering fluid in the back seat. I filled the fluid tank yesterday but it may be leaking.

Now that I'm stuck with the car, what should I be doing to make sure it runs as far as possible? I figure I'm just going to run it until it dies. I have plenty of experience with maintenance stuff, but I cannot and will not be overhauling the engine, or anything similar.

Is there a checklist or something which I should be going over to take note of what needs work?

pic related but it's not mine

If you have a screenshot of the ad you can possibly take it to small claims court
>>
>>17098605
I will keep this in mind next time I am purchasing a car. Is there something like waybackmachine which archives craigslist posts? Seller already removed it.
>>
>>17098611
No they don't. You can try bluffing and call the seller. Tell him you found out about the salvage title and that you will take this to court unless he compensates $500.

Total noob here. Buying a new small car, but there are way too many options.

How do I choose the one and what I should look out for?

Don't want to buy used car because I dont know anything about cars and have nobody to help me.

tip number one: avoid anything with a CVT transmission.
>>
>>17098499
You'll basically want something with good miles and good fuel economy for your budget, make sure whoever you buy it from lets you test drive or takes you for a ride in it to ensure it feels/works good for your liking.

Most people will disagree with me but most Ford and Toyota smaller cars are pretty good in my experience, Chevy if you don't mind a mid/full sized sedan.
>>
>>17098499
where do you live op, you can buy at least 3 really good used cars for the price of a new one.

Hello again, auto. I made a thread the other day about my wrecked camaro. I just got her back from the shop and was given the okay from mechanics, but my oil pressure os crazy high. Like 85 at idle. Wat do?

>>
>>17098232
start ripping the engine and trans out to shove into that other Camaro shell you found.

BTW, just to head off the morons who will undoubtedly bitch, the Camaro in question is a 1986 model with the 2.8L V6. OP is very attached to it so telling him to sell it for a V8 one will fall on deaf ears.
>>
>>17098247
That's the plan but I need a few weeks to get the funds. Its gonna be 650 for the body and 900 to swap everything over. Mainly I just want to know if its okay to drive it if the pressure is that high?
>>
>>17098232
bench test the oil pressure sensor and chase the sweet sweet electrical gremlins... or be prepared to drop the oil pan and give it a once over. the car may have been parked because of a clogged or otherwise fucked oil pickup, may have grenaded already, sludge-puppied, or any other reason.... do you have any space to work?

For as long as I first loved cars, since I was like 6, I've always wanted an RX-8. Back then they were rather expensive, being somewhat new on the market, but now that most of them are over 10 years old, I can afford one now. Is my dream really still worth it, and will a 10 year old rotary engine with 100,000km on the clock still run good for a few years?

The fact that they'll so cheap online makes me very nervous.

I mean fuck the FC and FD's where I live start at around $12,000 and you I'm seeing as low as $5,000 for an RX-8.

You'd have to be very careful that the previous honestly didn't just absolutely slaughter the engine and even then there is no guarantee it wouldn't fail soon.

>dude ten gears lmao

The reintroduction of what are basically CVT gearboxes is the absolute worst modern car trend and needs to fuck off and die as soon as possible.

>I-ITS NOT A CVT RETARD111!!1

It has so many fucking gears that you'll spend 95% of your time driving it either between 1000-2000rpm when going slow or 5000-6000rpm when going fast. It's a fucking CVT and it makes the engine have no character and sound garbage.

The Mustang GT is decent, but if you want bang for the buck, get a Chevrolet Camaro.
It's faster.
It handles better.
It's more comfortable.

I want to like the Mustang since the 5.0L Coyote engine, and 5.2L Voodoo engines are fantastic, but I know where Ford cut the corners on it. On the GT, the cost cutting is the manual transmission. Said manual is the same as the previous 2011-2014 Mustang GT. So it's the same problematic Chinese-built 6 speed.

If you step up to the Shelby, the mechanical cost cutting continues. The GT350 transmission is the SAME Tremec TR3160 used in base model 4 cylinder and V6 Camaros. Go up to the V8 Camaro SS, or ZL1 and the manual transmission on offer is a bulletproof Tremec TR6060, a beloved transmission you can't get in the Mustang.

Yes the Mustang has better visibility, barely.
Yes the Mustang has a better interior, barely.
Yes the Mustang has a larger trunk opening.

But honestly, I'll take the GM compromises in exchange for rock-solid mechanicals over Ford cost-cutting the mechanicals for better subjective elements.
