better build and design quality than Nissan.
this will be a constructive thread

Needs to take some lessons in car design but he did really well in any case.
Things that make Chip Foose go hmmm
What happened to factory two tone cars? For instance, the LS 430 was never offered in a 2 tone, but I just came across this on CL and damn, I really like it. I don't even like green, but this shit is sharp af.
cars no longer have that straight lower body line
>>17122465
this.
also this LS430 is bretty sexy
>>17122465
So sad. Bring it back!
This is my favorite combo. But that green over gold is a close second.
how can I tune my 1ZZ-FE to go from 140hp to around 170hp-200hp?
>inb4 2zz swap
not a huge fan of the 2zz's complete and utter lack of low-mid end torque
>inb4 turbo
too expensive and unpractical, and I'm not fond of turbo lag
nitrous
>>17122311
>Turbo
>Too expensive
You're looking at easily triple the cost to get to where a Turbo would Naturally Aspirated, fag.
>>17122311
>want 1.8 liter shitbox motor to have 60 extra hp
>want low-midrange torque
pick one
So I heard that back in the day, they would make fast cars out of aircraft drop tanks. Would anyone here be willing to explain specifics of their construction and engineering, and if one could be made today with common parts?
Not much to it. They used the tanks because of their shape and structural rigidity.
Just put all the parts in.
>>17122250
They would at the very least be fun to paint.

Well /o/, I've fucked up entirely. I think I fucked up my life and my parents are ready to boot me out of the house, this is all because of /o/'s favorite meme car, the AE86. My parents gave me spending money for graduating University with a high GPA score, I truly thought hard on what to spend the cash on and I was browsing craigslist's for weeks, then my parents suggested a nice sporty car that wouldn't break down on me. Lo and behold, I thought an AE86 would be a perfect car, especially after browsing /o/ throughout my uni life.
So I began the hunt and went through countless rust boxes, "I know what I've got", "No low ballers" and more "I know what've got!". After growing tired of searching I found the perfect "cheap one", it looked like a steal. I went to pay the owner a visit, it was some old lady whose husband had passed away and had the car sitting for quite a while, she didn't specify how long but it didn't matter to me being the dumbass I was, I didn't even ask what engine it was, where the rust spots were or any specific important questions about it. I bought the car straight away with pure emotion, I spent $7,500 fucking dollars.
>Mfw I found out the car had the weaker 4AC carby engine and an actual 4AGE and this was AFTER I purchased it.
>Mfw the head gasket is going to blow at any second
>Mfw there is rust in the unibody and a repairman quoted me $5000
Should have gotten a used IS300, tool.
>>17122106
>$7500
>on a fucking 30 year old corolla
you deserve it you fucking retard
>>17122106
Its not the meme car that fucked you; its the you that fucked the meme car.
Sr5 86s with the 4ace should be cheeeep. I got a super clean auto coupe for 900$ and a super clean grey manual coupe for 1300$
THEN YOU DO ALL THE WORK ON THE CAR YOURSELF
You swap the whole car out practically.
You need at least a gts rear axle, you need a gts bellhousing, you need a gts gas tank & fuel lines and gts clutch line.
You need an engine better than a 4ac. You need a custom drive shaft. If your doing efi youre gonna need a ecu and harness.
It requires a lot of parts sourcing and its best to be networked into the whole local car scene and other ae86 guys.
And its pretty much almost mandatory that you need to acquire the manual steering rack and the t50 tranmission is weak as fuck so you probably want to do a w58 transmision. Also gts rear axle is weak as fuck too so you want to source an extremely rare 1st gen celica supra rear axle.
All this shit is expensive and time consuming to do correctly and you should be able to do it all in your driveway pretty much cause thats how ae86s are and your gonna want to save money not paying someone to do yourself...... oh an coil overs did i say coilovers.... your gonna want some of those too.
Sorry YOU SUCK on such a grand scale, OP! Maybe you should give the car away to some one who can handle it and just KYS.
Can we get an American Full-Sized van thread?

When will archaic key ignitions get phased out?
>>17122006
They already have. Just buy modern car.

He still uses a key to start his car instead of a button.

What's a patrician hatchback for DD? I want something relatively fun, reasonably fast, well-handling, and relatively fuel efficient. I've been looking at VW Golfs, Ford Foci and Mazda 3s. With manual transmission, of course.
>>17121822
Golf/GTI mk5. 2009 is the best year, as they put the new engine in before going to mk6. 2009 had both 2 and 4 door variants in manual and auto, so you should be able to find one around for not too much. Going to mk6 you will see a considerable price increase, for slightly newer bodykit and not much else.
>>17121822
any specific budget?
i'll provide a few general brackets for you in the meantime until you answer

Ep3 (2002-2005) is the affordable one to keep an eye out for and can be had for like 5k-7k and is smaller than a fit while being faster and having a much better interior.
You can go way faster in the 90s hatches with a few simple mods but they're more likely to be trashed or rice taxed and also stolen.
Is the Lamborghini Aventador practical for a daily drive? Would you buy one if it would be your only car?
Depends
>carbon doesn't rust
>all wheel drive
Sounds like perfect winter daily. It's a bit wide though, a Huracan would be easier to park.
aventador roadster is probably exactly what I would dd if I was the classless millionaire I hope to someday be
Currently own a 2008 Mustang GT. It's my first car, but not really my choice. Been driving it for over a year now, learned how to drive manual in it. Kinda hated it at first because i wanted something older and more interesting but its grown on me.
However I am moving to berkeley soon and my commute is over a large, winding road with tight turns and sweeping corners. I've been longing for something light and well-handling.
Recently a miata has appeared in my area with 20k miles, the guy's asking $6k. Another guy offered me $12k for the mustang. Basically I could snag the miata, do everything I want to it (Small cage, wheels, tires, suspension, minor cosmetics) and still pocket some $$$. Am I dumb? Will I regret?
thanks
some will say you can mod the mustang to be a perfectly capable canyon carver, but it doesn't match a miata.
>>17121779
It has a solid rear axle lmao. Don't get me wrong I love the thing but it feels like I'm driving a tank through a canyon
>>17121762
One more thing I'm considering is the fact that it's got a removable top. Being in california and having sun the majority of the time, that means a lot.
What floor mats does /o/ use? I got mud on my carpet and realize I really need some but I can't stand the thick rubber ones and the ones that barely cover the floor and slide everywhere. My car is a Saab 9-2x Aero if anyone knows of specific mats that are good for it.
>>17121622
weathertech
full plastic dish, can literally have an inch of standing water in my car and it'll never touch the carpets
>>17121622
Your car is a cut off Subaru, look for mats for those.
>>17121622
+1 for weathertech. Tough as shit, good looking. Husky is good too, but I think they're kind of fugly.
In other news the new Civic Type R holds the fastest lap time for an FF car on the nurburgring
thoughts?
>>17121441
it could be the fastest car in the world but it'd still be hideous and worse than an ep3.
Looks like shit.
>>17121457
i agree that the back is too edgy for me but the front looks good
What kind of god would let this happen?
>fixable
>10,000
>>17121317
>I have the parts, just not the time
>extra $3k and I will include the unpainted replacement fender
>>17121285
A merciful one.
Thinking of buying one for shits and giggles. Any Eagle owners care to tell me what they think? Ride comfort, offroading ability, things I can do to improve fuel economy, etc.? Pros and cons of owning one?
>>17120949
Don't know shit about actual eagles but know a lot about AMC v8's which I don't they they even got lol.
>>17120961
No, they had a 4.2L i6 that was actually less powerful than the infamous 4.0.
They rot out real bad, trying to find a clean one in the salt belt is impossible.
