125 is more than enough edition
hello /o/, i'm thinking about buying 1st gen cayman
thoughts? they are relatively cheap where i live (prices start from $20000 and that's supposedly for a one in a good condition) so is there any catch?
>>17128939
Nope, they're great. Just make sure you get an S and make sure it has the facelift ('09-'11).
I wanted one but I was too poor to afford one so I settled for a first gen Boxster. And I love it so I can only imagine the Cayman being even better.
>>17129303
I'd imagine a facelifted S would be a lot more expensive than what OP is looking for
You drive a first gen Boxster, oyu know very well about the IMS meme and that OP would be fine with a pre-face lifted Cayman S if that's all that's in his budget
>>17129721
Eh, well, he posted a pic of the facelift model.
The memes.

If the LFA was half-priced to 200k, it would have done so well. It's a hell of a lot better than the Gallardo or 458 were.

Installed a new bumper and headlights over the weekend. Looked familiar.
I guess someone in D1GP is running a 20b powered 1st gen Miata... Nice!

Damn that color is beautiful, if I ever repaint or wrap mine, that's what I'm going with.
Could you swap the RX-8 engine into a RX-7 body for better fuel/oil efficiency and twin turbo it again for more power?
>>17130019
The Renesis is a piece of shit. The 13B-REW is the best engine for the FD other than a 20B or 26B

Hey b/o/ys, I was wondering what the consensus on here was on which manufacturer makes the best manual transmissions.
$3k Honda Civic transmission
>>17129868
Mazda probably makes the best feeling changes of the volume brands. Can't really say for more upmarket marques.

I never understood why people do this. Is it to show solidarity with the Jews?
What does everyone here think of push to start?
I don't like it personally because on my VW Beetle it never seems to want to work right.
I can push it and nothing happens.
I can push it and it does a half fire up.
I can push it and it works.
In the winter holy fuck it is hell; but so is even getting in the current gen Beetles in the winter because the windows fucking freeze and you can't open the door easily.
Worst of all if I slam down on the push to start to shut down the car all the electronics will have a fit and the horn will honk.
Push to start hate thread.
>today you see threads about auto vs manual threads
>10 years from now we will be keyless vs key threads
I should mention my dad has one of those Mercedes C300 4MATICS and the push to start seems to work fine on that.
Granted that is also the only automatic I enjoy driving.
Is it just a matter of lower end cars shouldn't have this crap?
The pts in my FoST works just fine.
Sometimes I miss turning a key though.
Does the amount of cylinders directly impact speed? For example, is a 2 cylinder car bound to be really slow?
Yes
This is why an old Jaguar XJ is exactly 3 times faster than a Lotus Elise
You moron
>>17129443
The output of an engine is limited by
primarily balance because an engine with low innate balance has a severe limit on its RPMs which is basically an effective hard cap on its capacity to make power
2/3 cylinders have bad innate balance because no matter what firing order they tend to rock end to end
This matters far less on small (>1500cc) engines because the have far less mass ratting around to cause damage to their rotating assembly
Inline 4cyls have primary balance, but they have a secondary imbalance that causes a different more manageable vibration so they can be used up to about 2.5l before that becomes an issue
Inline 6s have perfect balance so they can be scaled up near infintely without issue. Hence why a lot of semi diesels are i6s. Their main issue is length. A large displacement I6 is a rather long motor which limits its usefulness in applications beyond large trucks and cars with long hoodspace.
I8s and beyond are impractical because the crank is so long that it flexs at higher rpms and can be damaged because of it.
V4s are imbalanced and rather awkward
cont
the number of cylinders affects top speed
Thinking of getting a 2016 RAV4 or Corolla from Hertz. Am I dumb for considering a former rental? Last car was a Craigslist car (2005 S60) and it shit the bed on me. I'd rather just get something low mileage.
>>17129274
Rentals see a lot more abuse than most other cars, but they usually get sold off so early that there shouldn't be too much effect yet. Seeing how the car in question is about a year old, it might have wear for two, but if the price is right that may quite well be acceptable.
Still take a decent look at it, especially stuff like broken clips on exterior parts, for example caused by bumping things while parking, may not be visible at first glance.
>>17129274
OP should check out new rav4 price first.
Toyota has good discounts with 0% available.
make sure new vs slightly used price are worth it.
I ened up with AWD SE trim when they first came out, got about 4k discount. I checked used Rav4 in same trim and was not worth few cent of price difference after 0%

>buying a new econobox
just get a civic for 3k and keep fixing it. You should've kept and fixed the s60 faggot.
I want to get more horsepower from my truck and make the idle sound rougher and lopier. It's a 5.7 350 TBI without the vortec heads. What would I have to do to get around 400HP? It's 210 stock.

Headers
Heads
Intake
Cam
Carburetor
This is standard stuff. Do all at once and have it professionally tuned. There's guides everywhere on what goes with what.
Cam it and be a slave to premium gasoline, new heads, new exhaust, new ECU (if that's even applicable), electric fan, electric fuel and water pumps, carburetor.
400 from a 350 is stupid easy and pretty much the low end standard in drag racing. there are probably 10 really good articles that give you full specs of how to make 400 at the wheels with a 350
Basically you have low flow-rate heads which provide great torque but can't make power and a super wimpy camshaft. Look into those two, figure out fueling/ignition before starting mods, and build around that.
Lots of magazines, articles, and ppl related to Chevy v8s who can give alot more depth then you'll usually find on /o/ desu, look around the net a bit.
soon
Is that an F1000?
>>17128254
Formula Continental. But close, many F1000 use the same chassis.
