I am looking to potentially purchase a low mileage 2004 Audi S4 (B6). I am aware of the timing chain issues. My question is, are the replacement tensioners any better the the OEM tensioners which are prone to fail?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
the replacement tensioners are still oem

they're just an updated part.

and they are less prone to breaking, but it doesnt entirely reduce the chance of them shitting themselves again at 60k minimum

do it, i used to have a b6 s4. loved it, but it was 11 years old and a lot of plastics and seals were literally destroying themselves. in the time i owned it i overhauled the suspension, replaced the radiator and expansion tank, and the oil filter housing seal which requires the intake manifold to be taken out.

it was a bit of a nightmare i must admit but in the end the car was fucking awesome and low profile.
>>
If the engine shits itself, swap it with an RS4 block. More power and no more worries about the chains/tensioners going bad.
>>
>>17130021
It seems that the B5 and B6 S4s are more popular that the RS4s. Why is this? Mainly cost?

Why do Americans lease German luxury cars or trade them in once the warranty expires?

Because they want to seem wealthy or enjoy luxury goods for low prices.

Hey b/o/ys, bike guy here but I'm getting bored of working on/restoring them and want a change so I nabbed a project car.

I recently got an RX-7 FC in pretty good shape, hardly any rust on it, clean although paint's somewhat faded and it's been sitting. Been too sick to fuck around with the car for the last couple months but things are turning around and I want to get started.

The EGI was taken off by the PO, with the plan on putting a carb on it which is why the car was parked. It's been sitting, and I've been soaking the seals in oil and turning the motor over periodically. I'm looking at redoing:

-belts
-fuel pump
-manifold and carb
-new fuel lines
-servicing the brakes
-do the fluids (coolant, tranny, motor etc)
-spark plugs, maybe leads
-have to fix a window belt

Anything else I should check on? Basically I want to see if and how well it runs and then determine other shit like wipers, tires, brakes before I insure it and take it for a shakedown to see if any other shit pops up.

FB owner here, before you do anything. Make sure you research the entire car. The forums are absolutely worthless, rotards are so fucking stupid. Nobody tells you major things you need to know, like you need a 54mm socket for the ONE (1) flywheel nut thats on at 300ft lbs or how you need an adapter or have to rig something up to get it to mount to an engine stand.

There's so many little things with this stupid car that it's going to drive you absolutely insane. Don't tighten the temp sensor at all just snug it up or the head snaps off, the front discs have the wheel hubs built in instead of just normal fucking brakes (for the FB at least), I could go on forever about this.

Don't do this, don't do that, make sure you redline it once a day, check the oil every 5 minutes, take it out for a walk at 3pm on tuesdays, no snacks after 7pm and if you follow this super special mazda meme maintenance routine, only then will it be ALMOST as reliable as a normal car.

If you get it carbed, you'll have to get the older OMP, unless you premix. Here's the thing about premixing on the carbd cars. Premixing is just adding oil into the gas before it hits the engine is it not? So why the hell do people premix on street cars? The OMP does that for you in all RX cars. I can sorta understand for the 13b because it injects it into the housing, but on the carbd cars the oil is injected into the carb, so isn't it already doing that for you?

I hate the community, I hate the car, I hate it all. But man listen up, when its running and you're up in the 6k rpm range, nothing feels better.
>>
>>17126441
I'm not kidding about the rotard community man. They're totally worthless, you'd be better off just getting the oem shop manual (cause the haynes one is garbage too) and figuring it all out for yourself. Nobody lets you know major shit, or the info they give is just flat out wrong. Once I even asked "Hey whats this for? Don't see it in the shop manual" and the reply I get is "Best to not mess with it if you don't know what it is.". Wonderful, amazing, so fucking helpful. I hate everyone in this community. They're all liars, they lie about the power they make, they lie about the MPG (25 CITY? HAHAHAAAA TRY 10) and they hand out wrong info or do shit that is totally not recommended by mazda whatsoever like HEY HOW ABOUT 5W OIL EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT LISTED IN THE MANUAL WHATSOEVER. Speaking of oil, don't even bother with synthetic. Why? Well you're gonna burn it off anyway so what the hells the point of paying more?

My wife and I will be travelling abroad the next 18 months, and I am looking for a responsible person to care for her Ram 2500 in that time. Pic related is the truck.

Because of the lift, her truck will not fit in my garage alongside my car, so I figure it might as well be driven a bit in that time rather than getting baked by the summer sun sitting in the driveway. It just had an oil change done so all one lucky person has to do is keep diesel in it and enjoy. But it must be the right type of person since not everybody appreciates a truck like this.

Person I am looking for:
>White male between the ages of 19 and 35
>Height between 5'5" and 5'9"
>Low self esteem and not confident, but somehow incredibly cocky
>Proper attire aka sleeveless shirts, cargo shorts, and Mossy Oak
>Prefer non-smoker, but I'm a realist so dip is ok as long as you try not to spill your empty Gatorade bottle full of brow spit
>Education- at least some high school, but less than an associate's degree
>Must use phrases such as "I could care less" and "For all intensive purposes"

If you are patient behind the wheel, please do not apply. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

[Where did it all go wrong edition]

Used to have dreams about project cars, about having a garage with at least one project always in the making, and a small collection of affordable dream cars.

>Used to always drive just for the sake of driving
>Rowing through gears in a car I could just barely afford
>Kept it running with my own sweat and hands
>Thinking as long as I could do this, everything would be alright

Now I'm in a position where I should be living my dream.
But the reality is a very different one.

I barely spend time driving for pleasure as it is, only driving when going to or from work.
Current car is a semi-luxobarge with automatic, fwd and lots of electronic creature comfort.

I was supposed to have a restored e30 or another rwd, manual, stripped interior, weekend car right about now. Maybe even have a girlfriend.

So how did everything go so wrong?

Anyone else feel like they aren't where they should be in their life?

Rigtht there with you OP.

Then I moved to a state to try and lower my living costs, problem is there are no good driving roads here. I don't even feel like I am living anymore.

I get why people pay others to build cars for them, but fuck I don't have that kind of money.

I'm looking into a 1996 Camaro as my first car. It's $1000 but needs work done on the motor and brakes. My spending limit is $2300 (including safety and e-test, plus getting a license plate and sticker). Thoughts on that? I have other options but this is by far the coolest car

What does it need, do you have any idea based off driving it and checking it out rather than the sellers word? Lt1 or v6? You're gonna be cutting it close with your budget if he doesn't do you any favors by putting 1 dollar on the title to avoid taxes, 1k car is gonna need a lot of work typically.

Sup /o/ I'm trying to import my first car from the UK. Japan is wayyy too much for stuff I don't really want. truthfully, I just want an E36 or E30 RHD. I found a nice one for about $800.00 USD and I have a quote from a reputable shipper for about $1300.00 USD I have about $2500.00 for something like. Has anyone ever imported a car before?
