>A few minutes after midnight in Washington, D.C., President Trump tweeted a strange sentence.

>Within two hours, it had been retweeted more than 60,000 times and “liked” more than 74,000 times — making it one of his most popular tweets in months.

>The word “covfefe” does not appear in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. When searching for it on the company’s website, the dictionary suggests “coffee,” “coven,” “cover,” “covet,” “covey” and “cuvee.”

Comedian Kathy Griffin has participated in a photo shoot where she poses holding a bloody decapitated head of President Donald Trump

http://www.trunews.com/article/kathy-griffin-poses-with-bloody-beheaded-president-trump

>(VERO BEACH, FL) The graphic images were taken by photographer Tyler Shields, who at one point during the shoot was told by Mrs. Griffin that they would need to “move to Mexico” once their pictures were released, inferring the imagery could land them in federal prison.

>Mrs. Griffin endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016, and in 2015 told Billboard magazine that “The dream scenario is that [Trump] gets elected and then gets impeached 48 hours later and we just have two days of utter chaos and then Hillary comes in and makes it all better.”

>TMZ obtained the pictures prior to a release from Mr. Shields, who released a behind-the-scenes video of the photoshoot in which Mrs. Griffin said, “Tyler and I are not afraid to do images that make noise.”

>Mike Cernovich, the author of “Gorilla Mindset,” who gained notoriety during the 2016 campaign for promoting President Trump’s “America First” agenda, compared Kathy Griffin’s photoshoot with a picture of performance artist Marina Abramovic posing with a bloodied skull from what appears to be a goat.

>Mrs. Abramovic, who also supported Hillary Clinton in the past election, became one of the focuses of the WikiLeaks email release on campaign chairman John Podesta. In the emails was an invitation from Mrs. Abramovic to a Spirit Cooking event, a term referring to a satanic ritual.

This is going too far. I really dislike all the shit Trump has been doing, but to stage a publicity stunt with his severed head is too much. What did they hope to accomplish from this? What is the message? There is no satire or mockery, it is just a vulgar, threatening display. If someone did this for any other president it would be universally panned. I don't think she should go to prison for it, but a fine to attempt to dissuade others from equivalent or worse displays in the future would be appropriate.

If the left thinks this is ok, then they're essentially opening themselves up to the return that society will deal unto them.

Members of Hollywood and the media can throw punches at the right all day - they throw hissy fits when the right or the president fight back.

"You're destabilizing the nation!"
"You cant call us fake news, people aren't listening to us anymore!"
"We're a privileged class who deserve respect!"

This is outright insanity. The media and Hollywood have shoved their heads so far up their collective ass that they can't tell who's worth attacking and who's not. They can't see the real enemies, they only see their ideological opposition.

U.S. President Donald Trump has told "confidants," including the head of the Environmental Protection Agency Scott Pruitt, that he plans to leave a landmark international agreement on climate change, Axios news outlet reported on Saturday, citing three sources with direct knowledge.

On Saturday, Trump said in a Twitter post he would make a decision on whether to support the Paris climate deal next week.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A source who has been in contact with people involved in the decision told Reuters a couple of meetings were planned with chief executives of energy companies and big corporations and others about the climate agreement ahead of Trump's expected announcement later in the week. It was unclear whether those meetings would still take place.

"I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!" he tweeted on the final day of a Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy at which he refused to bow to pressure from allies to back the landmark 2015 agreement.

The summit of G7 wealthy nations pitted Trump against the leaders of Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Japan on several issues, with European diplomats frustrated at having to revisit questions they had hoped were long settled.

Trump, who has previously called global warming a hoax, came under concerted pressure from the other leaders to honor the 2015 Paris Agreement on curbing carbon emissions.

Although he tweeted that he would make a decision next week, his apparent reluctance to embrace the first legally binding global climate deal that was signed by 195 countries clearly annoyed German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"The entire discussion about climate was very difficult, if not to say very dissatisfying," she told reporters. "There are no indications whether the United States will stay in the Paris Agreement or not."
>>
>>144431
I don't think entering the agreement will help reverse climate change so this doesn't worry me
>>
>>144438
The agreement is toothless, so pulling out of it has no value. The U.S. might as well stay in it for the diplomatic reason of saying that they'll work with China to reduce emissions. The only messaging I get here is simply more climate change denial.

At a time when the president of the United States routinely accuses Democrats of conspiring with the news media to thwart the will of the people and overturn his stunning Electoral College landslide, it’s not terribly surprising to learn that the White House is instructing federal agencies to stonewall efforts by the minority party in Congress to exercise oversight. But it’s another sign of another layer of bipartisan tradition being stripped away. And given the timing, it makes you wonder if Team Trump wants to make sure congressional Republicans can keep dangerous information bottled up, with respect to the Russia probe and other sensitive matters.

>Politico has the scoop:

>The White House is telling federal agencies to blow off Democratic lawmakers’ oversight requests, as Republicans fear the information could be weaponized against President Donald Trump.

>At meetings with top officials for various government departments this spring, Uttam Dhillon, a White House lawyer, told agencies not to cooperate with such requests from Democrats, according to Republican sources inside and outside the administration.

>A White House spokeswoman said the policy of the administration is “to accommodate the requests of chairmen, regardless of their political party.” There are no Democratic chairmen, as Congress is controlled by Republicans.

>Bit of a catch, eh?

>Turns out, according to The Wall Street Journal, the Department of Justice has given the green light to this partisan interpretation of congressional oversight powers:

>The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, a unit that answers legal questions for government agencies and the White House, said congressional authority to oversee the executive branch may be exercised only by committees and subcommittees controlled by the party in power.

>“The Executive Branch’s longstanding policy has been to engage in the established process for accommodating congressional requests for information only when those requests come from a committee, subcommittee, or chairman authorized to conduct oversight,” according to the May 1 opinion, signed by the acting official in charge of the office, Curtis Gannon.

>This was not, as The Wall Street Journal article notes, the “longstanding policy” of the executive branch before Donald Trump took office. While Republicans often complained that the Obama administration slow-walked its oversight requests before and after it completely took over Congress in 2015, there was no policy denying the minority party’s inquiries altogether.

>Democrats have been sending White House and executive branch agencies letters on a near-daily basis on issues ranging from the Russia investigation and ethics issues to health care and environmental concerns.

>Earlier this week, for example, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D., Md.), the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asked the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, for documents related to his conversations with President Donald Trump about the Russia investigation.

>The “stonewall the minority” policy is being imposed at a convenient time for the administration, as The Wall Street Journal report observes. If congressional Republicans choose not to exercise full oversight of the administration’s more dubious activities — as seems to be the tendency of at least one key House Republican chairman, the Intelligence Committee’s Devin Nunes, who is clearly trying to redirect the Russia probe toward areas less perilous for the White House — then that avenue for holding the administration accountable may be closed off entirely.
>>
>And that does seem to be the idea. The Journal reports that 145 letters from House Democrats to the administration went unanswered in March and April alone. And Politico quotes Senate Democrats as claiming little or no response to 225 oversight inquiries since January.

>Aside from this dispute over who said what to whom, there does not seem to be any doubt that Democrats are hearing crickets from agencies in response to requests for information related to their efforts to hold the administration accountable:

>A senior Democratic aide said that of the Senate Democrats’ 225 oversight letters sent to the Trump administration since January asking for information, the vast majority have received no response.

>No area of constitutional law is murkier than the separation of powers between the executive and the legislative branch. Normally, Congress can protect its oversight powers by firing off subpoenas, or even threatening to withhold appropriations. But that tends not to happen when the same party is in charge at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.

>Thus the best and perhaps the only way Democrats can get around the administration’s stone wall is to win control of at least one congressional chamber in 2018. Then they will have some of those chairmanships that command the attentions of bureaucrats.

A Republican congressman said last week that, were the impacts of climate change to become a “real problem,” God would intervene.

>“I believe there’s climate change,” Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) told constituents at a town hall Friday, as seen in a video of the event posted online. “I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I think there are cycles.”

>“Do I think that man has some impact? Yeah, of course,” he continued. “Can man change the entire universe? No. Why do I believe that? As a Christian, I believe that there is a creator, God, who’s much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

https://youtu.be/hMxTUhLp8qc

>President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday that he would announce whether the United States would stay in the Paris climate accord, a landmark agreement reached between nearly every nation on Earth in 2016 to collectively curb emissions.

Whether you agree with climate change or not, this is deeply flawed reasoning. God left us to care for his planet, not shit all over it. We're just living in His house. Now you can make a debate about whether or not ACW is happening, but you can't say that even if it is, God will be okay with it, because you just shit all over his property.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/01/us/politics/stephen-bannon-white-house-ethics-waivers.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

>The Trump administration may have skirted federal ethics rules by retroactively granting a blanket exemption that allows Stephen K. Bannon, the senior White House strategist, to communicate with editors at Breitbart News, where he was recently an executive.

>The exemption, made public late Wednesday along with more than a dozen other ethics waivers issued by the White House, allows all White House aides to communicate with news organizations, even if they involve a “a former employer or former client.”

>The waiver, which was undated, did not mention Mr. Bannon specifically, but appeared to benefit him by potentially dislodging him from a pending ethics complaint over his past discussions with Breitbart editors. It would also free him from restrictions on his future communication with the conservative media company.

>The waiver, and the fact that it remains unclear when it was originally issued, seemed unusual to Walter M. Shaub Jr., the director of the Office of Government Ethics, who questioned its validity.

>“There is no such thing as a retroactive waiver,” Mr. Shaub said in an interview. “If you need a retroactive waiver, you have violated a rule.”

>A spokeswoman for the White House did not respond to a request for comment. The ethics waivers had prompted a dispute between the White House and the Office of Government Ethics, which pressed the administration to make them public. The waivers reveal what past work might conflict with aides’ new official duties.

>In January, President Trump signed an executive order that put in place stringent ethics rules for his political appointees like Mr. Bannon. Under the policy, Mr. Bannon would be barred from contacting Breitbart employees for two years to discuss issues that were under his purview while he was an executive there.
11 posts and 0 images submitted.
>>
>But Mr. Bannon continued those communications, including with Breitbart editors, after beginning his job as Mr. Trump’s chief strategist on Jan. 20, according to a complaint by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a liberal group.

>Some critics have raised concerns about Mr. Bannon’s ties to Breitbart, which he helped build into a formidable conservative media force before leaving last August to join Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign. The complaint alleged that Mr. Bannon’s discussions with the media organization — in his official role as chief strategist — “resulted in Breitbart receiving preferential access to senior members of the Trump administration.”

>The complaint was filed with the White House Counsel’s Office, which has the ability to investigate and issue a punishment, if it deems one necessary. It has not commented publicly on the complaint.

>But in another recent case, after complaints from several groups, the counsel’s office disclosed that it found that another top adviser, Kellyanne Conway, had acted “inadvertently” by promoting the brand of Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter, during an interview on Fox News in February. It said Ms. Conway was “highly unlikely” to err again.

>The Office of Government Ethics, which is the chief ethics monitor for the federal government, does not have the authority to investigate complaints. It did issue an opinion during the Obama administration maintaining that retroactive ethics waivers were not allowed, and noted several instances where they appeared to have been granted after the fact.
>>
>“Waivers and authorizations must be issued prospectively in order to be valid,” Don Fox, the general counsel of the ethics office, wrote in April 2010. He wrote that the process of evaluating waivers was one of the more significant duties of ethics officials. “Both the individual employee’s interests and those of the government are best served when this process is carried out in a careful and consistent manner.”

>“It leaves us unable to evaluate if the waiver was issued before or after you engaged in conduct that would otherwise be prohibited,” Mr. Shaub said.

>For example, there is no date on a broad waiver allowing senior White House employees to have contacts with an assortment of political organizations — including ones where they may have worked, such as the president’s campaign or the Republican Attorneys General Association.

>Richard W. Painter, a White House ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration, who has been critical of the Trump administration’s approach to ethics, said that backdating was not an acceptable approach.

>“The only retroactive waiver I have ever heard of is called a pardon,” Mr. Painter wrote in an email.

Trump and other Republican allies in Washington have made pursuing leakers one of their top priorities, but Winner is the first to face charges for releasing classified intelligence.

>Winner, of Augusta, Ga., is facing charges that she removed classified material from a government facility and mailed it to a news outlet. She was arrested on Saturday and appeared on the charge Monday.

>The announcement came shortly after The Intercept published a report based on a classified intelligence document showing Russian government hackers attempted to hack more than 100 local election officials before the November election.

>According to the report, Russian military intelligence sent the emails to local elections officials. They also attempted a cyberattack on at least one American voting software supplier.

>The Justice Department didn't confirm that Winner leaked the document to The Intercept, but the report stated the report received by the news outlet was dated May 5. The affidavit confirms the intelligence document was also dated on May 5.

>Winner worked for Pluribus International Corporation and was assigned to a government facility in Georgia. She's held a top secret classified security clearance since being hired on Feb. 13.

>She is accused of sending the classified document to a news outlet a few days after printing it off.

>The government was not aware Winner leaked the document until a news outlet contacted government officials for comment on an upcoming report based on a document they believed to be classified. After receiving and reviewing a copy of the document, the government began an investigation.

>"The U.S. Government Agency examined the document shared by the News Outlet and determined the pages of the intelligence reporting appeared to be folded and/or creased, suggesting they had been printed and hand-carried out of a secured space," the affidavit read.
>>
>Winner was identified because she was one of six people who printed the document off of their computer. Of those six, she was the only one who had any email contact with a news outlet.

>"Winner further acknowledged that she was aware of the contents of the intelligence reporting and that she knew the contents of the reporting could be used to the injury of the United States and to the advantage of a foreign nation," the affidavit stated.

>"During that conversation, Winner admitted intentionally identifying and printing the classified intelligence reporting at issue despite not having a ‘need to know,' and with knowledge that the intelligence reporting was classified."

>Winner remains under investigation.

An overwhelming 92 percent of citizens of Ukraine consider themselves ethnic Ukrainians, according to a recent survey by the Razumkov Center. Six percent of the respondents consider themselves ethnic Russians, and 1.5 percent cite other ethnic groups. This is the highest recorded percentage of Ukrainian self-identification since Ukraine regained independence. Sociologists say Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its aggression in the Donbas accelerated the self- identification process.

According to the 2001 census, 78.8 percent citizens called themselves Ukrainian; in 2015 (according to the Razumkov Center) it was 86 percent; and today it is 92 percent. According to the most recent survey, which was conducted in March, the percentage of those who consider themselves Ukrainian is highest among the youngest respondents – age 18 to 22 – at 96.2 percent. Among those over the age of 60 it is less than 90 percent.

UK police rush to three attacks in Central London, at least one dead

LONDON, June 4 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Sunday that the incident in London was being treated as a potential act of terrorism.
"Following updates from police and security officials, I can confirm that the terrible incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism," May said just over four days before voting is due to begin in a June 8 national election.

"This is a fast moving investigation," May said. "I want to express my huge gratitude to the police and emergency services who are on the scene. Our thoughts are with those who are caught up in these dreadful events." (Reporting by Guy Faulconbridge, Editing by Paul Sandle)

LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - British armed police rushed to three incidents in central London on Saturday after a van plowed into pedestrians on London Bridge and reports of multiple stabbings in the nearby Borough Market area.

Police sent out security advice to Londoners on Twitter saying "run, hide, tell" if they were caught in an attack. The BBC cited police as saying there had been more than one fatality.

The attacks come days ahead of a June 8 election and less than two weeks after a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a pop concert by U.S. singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in northern England. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.

"A van came from London Bridge itself, went between the traffic light system and rammed it towards the steps," a taxi driver told the BBC. "It knocked loads of people down.

"Then three men got out with long blades, 12 inches long and went randomly along Borough High Street stabbing people at random."

Prime Minister Theresa May had been informed and was being kept updated, her office said, while U.S. President Donald Trump had also been briefed by his national security team, the White House said.

One woman told Reuters she saw what appeared to be three people with knife wounds and possibly their throats cut at London Bridge at the Thames river. Reuters was unable to immediately verify her account.

STABBINGS ON THE STREET

Police said they fired shots after reports of stabbings in the nearby Borough Market area, and that they were also responding to an incident in the Vauxhall area further west, but gave no immediate details.

Streets in the area would have been busy with people on a Saturday night out. BBC showed dozens of people, evidently having been caught up in the attack, being escorted through a police cordon with their hands on their heads.

British Transport Police said casualties were reported after an incident that may have involved a van and a knife attack, while the London Ambulance Service said it was sending multiple resources to the incident near London Bridge.

One witness told the BBC she saw a speeding white van veering into pedestrians at London Bridge. That witness said the van hit five to six people. Reuters television pictures showed dozens of emergency vehicles in the area around London Bridge.

Several witnesses also reported hearing gunshots.

The newly-elected president of South Korea ordered a probe into why the country’s defense ministry failed to report to him the import of four more rocket launchers for the US anti-missile system in addition to the two confirmed publicly.
“President Moon said it was very shocking,” to hear the four additional launchers had been installed without being reported to the new government or to the public, presidential spokesman Yoon Young-chan told a media briefing on Tuesday.

The deployment of the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system was approved by the previous conservative government in Seoul, which fell after then-President Park Geun-hye of the Saenuri Party was impeached under the corruption charges. Moon Jae-in, a Democrat, won the May 9 election and is in the process of power transition. A promise to review the controversial THAAD deal was part of his campaign.

Moon’s office announced a probe into an undisclosed entry of four THAAD launchers, which were brought into the country in addition to two units, the deployment of which was publicly announced.

The US has denied misleading its allies.

"We continue to work very closely with the Republic of Korea government and we have been very transparent in all of our actions throughout this process," Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis

Moon has been critical of many policies of his predecessor, including the decision to deploy the THAAD system. He said Park failed to get a parliamentary approval for the move, but is yet to bring the issue to lawmakers himself.

The deployment was touted in Seoul as a measure to protect the country from a possible attack by North Korea. But the strongest opposition to the move came from China, which sees THAAD as a threat to its national security, both due to the range of its radar and because of its potential to pave way for further deployments in the region.

The death toll in the Philippines city of Marawi has exceeded 100 people, including at least 27 civilians and 61 terrorists, while 2,000 people reportedly remain trapped as ISIS-linked Maute militants mercilessly kill “betrayers” who try to flee the city.
At least 27 civilians have been killed in Marawi since Maute fighters, aligned with Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), raided the city last Tuesday.

This figure includes the latest victims – eight males, whose bodies were discovered with gunshot wounds to their heads on a roadside in the outskirts of Marawi on Sunday. According to locals, the victims were civilians who worked at a rice mill and a medical college and had attempted to flee the city.

A signed note attached to one of the men indicated that the victims had “betrayed their faith,” police officer Jamail Mangadang told the Philippine Star.

In another discovery, the bodies of four men, three women and a child were found on Saturday near a university in the city.

“These are civilians, women. These terrorists are anti-people. We found their bodies while conducting rescue operations,” regional military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera said, according to Manila Standard.
