While ISIS members often refer to them as wholesome warriors acting in Allah's name, Anonymous is now trying to expose them as the joke they are, urging users to release Photoshopped images, memes, and jokes with ISIS warriors as the main characters.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/anonymous-declares-december-11-isis-trolling-day-497169.shtml

PS: If you wish to participate in this event here's what you can do:
>post photoshopped pics of ISIS like the one that accompanies this post on social media such as Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook under the hashtags "#Daesh" or "#Daeshbag"
>or, post those pictures on the hashtags used by ISIS and directly mock them

I'm sure /b/ is on the case to the limited extent that 4chan participates in such things nowadays.

If Anonymous actually does get that many people to participate, however, it may have an actual effect.
you're right about /b/, btw

How would you even identity a person from a leg?

Well it may be possible to tell race and how fat/thin its owner is/was just looking at it, maybe how short/tall, and cross-reference if someone maybe matching those estimates has been missing lately.

Genetics could pinpoint ethnicity/gender as well as serve as a reference to match up to if other parts are found.

How much foreign aid does the US really need to give out? The cold war is over, surely the United States doesn't need to bribe its allies anymore.
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>6159
It depends on the country getting the aid. There are countries where it makes perfect sense to pay off the locals. For instance, I'm glad the US bribes countries like Mongolia and Djibouti and Uzbekistan, they're strategic. However I'm not glad the US is giving billions to countries like Israel and Egypt, much less the part about still funding most of the UN.

Uh...isn't the USA about 30 years behind in their payments to the UN?

The FBI has made confirmation that Tashfeen Malik had pledged allegiance to the state of ISIS by electronic evidence collected at the home of the possible terrorists, they also discovered a small bomb making facility at there home.

Better than average chance this situation won't lead to any sane change in policy, but will instead cause officials to increase surveillance and security checks on everybody, even Mormons and Jews.

It'll just add to the already ever-escalating atmosphere of suspicion and distrust in our society, more inter-group conflict. A very pleasing outcome for ISIS.
>>
And look at this nice little graph the NYT helpfully included with the article. Just in case you forgot your true enemies are white rednecks:

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/12/why-isnt-there-a-starbucks-for-hugs/418332/

"Samantha Hess and Becky Rodrigues are paid to hug people. Cuddlers for hire, they will hold clients close, in a platonic manner, for $60 to $80 an hour. If being held by a stranger doesn’t sound appealing, there are also platonic friends for rent. They will be happy to meet for dinner, go shopping, or just take a walk, for a fee. There are supposedly 526,873 such people available to choose from on the website RentAFriend. The average rate is $23 per hour.
...

Professional cuddlers often talk about their interest in fostering mental health, but the people who sign up as rental friends often have different reasons for doing what they do. Some do it for the money, and always charge an hourly rate. There is another subset that does it for a free ticket, says Rosenbaum. Instead of charging cash for their companionship, they accept payment in the form of a ticket to join their lonely client at a baseball game or a concert that they would otherwise not get to attend."

Are there really people on this planet so desperate that they are willing to pay to cuddle someone? Like not even paying for sex, just paying basically for a bit of hugging?

Is this entirely a market for /r9k/ or something? I honestly can't see how anyone could be so pathetic they would pay for this.
>>
>>6088
On a side and totally unrelated note, entirely for research purposes of course, is there a market for gay snugglers? I mean this is entirely out of curiousity and I would never consider selling myself, but is there?
>>
>>6088

considering that the people who want human contact but can't get it are regularly called desperate and pathetic by people who can, yes, there is a market for it

Lucy Allan, MP for Telford, has faked a death threat against her, avoiding libel by attaching it to an email from someone who used a pseudonym.

Mainstream news outlets are refusing to cover it; she's a tory, Leveson enquiry.

Why is the word resign in quotation marks?
What is being implied here?
>>
>>6455
Resign is a quote. The guy whose email she edited said she should resign.
>>
>>6457
Yeah, that may be technically true but that doesn't change that it has implications to do it this way, especially since there is no point in quoting just the one word.
If he really said that, then the quote should be "'should resign'". This actually carries the implication that this is not the article's writer's opinion.
But a simple 'MP told to resign' without any quotation marks at all would work just as well.

Moscow, December 2, Interfax - According to some reports, two Syrian hierarchs, namely Orthodox Church of Antioch Metropolitan of Aleppo Paul and Syro-Jacobite Metropolitan of Aleppo John-Ibrahim, kidnapped in 2013, were executed.

"The source said that Abdurakhmanov showed a video in which the kidnapped metropolitans were filmed and also reaffirmed that they were executed," the source said.

The inter-faction deputy group intended to urgently turn to the Turkish authorities for confirmation of the detention of Abdurakhmanov and the information he produced about the assassination of the Christian leaders kidnapped in 2013.

http://www.wsj.com/article_email/yahoo-board-to-weigh-potential-sale-of-internet-business-sources-say-1449015461-lMyQjAxMTI1MjA0MjkwNjIyWj

>Today’s deal buzz is a Wall Street Journal story about how Yahoo’s board is “planning a series of meetings this week to consider selling off the company’s flagging Internet businesses and how to make the most of its valuable stake in Chinese e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba Group.”

>I’ve so far had a handful of conversations with folks who are either close to Yahoo YHOO 6.91% or potential bidders (including within the past hour), and here is what I’m hearing so far:

>1. Legit? Despite the WSJ portrayal, these are not meetings that are being specially called to discuss a sale. These are the company’s regularly-scheduled financial planning meetings. So of course an evaluation of strategic options will be included, particularly for a company under activist pressure that has recently lost so many senior executives.

>That said, a sale of “core Yahoo” — or at least a serious attempt — does seem likely, perhaps as early as Q1 2016.

>2. Financial sponsors? Private equity will certainly take a hard look, particularly those firms that had conducted due diligence back in 2011 (here’s a refresher). The real question, however, is if private equity could find enough leverage to make such a deal work. Big consumer tech deals are few and far between (is Skype the last?), and the pricing on this would be particularly tricky. Do you pay a premium to EBIDTA, even though the actual stock market is effectively valuing Yahoo’s core business (ex-Alibaba BABA 1.16% and cash on hand) at zero? If private equity were to buy, one would imagine it would do a lot of cutting, in order to grow a smaller core of homepage, Tumblr, news, sports and mail (i.e., cut to expand, destroy to create, etc.). Then try to flip it to a strategic.
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>3. Then who? Strategics are a better fit. Not only because they needn’t find the debt, but because they could make better immediate use of Yahoo’s large user base. Expect Comcast CMSCA 0.00% , AT&T T 0.44% and Verizon VZ -0.31% to have interest (yes, Verizon already bought AOL, but that was more for the ad biz).

>4. Not a break-up: Yahoo’s properties are so tightly integrated on the back-end — including the basic username/email indentifiers — that it would be very hard for the company to sell Sports to one party, Mail to another, etc.

>5. Marissa: At this point there is a good argument to be made that Yahoo originally needed more of a financial wizard than a product ace at the helm, but that’s all water under the bridge. There has been a lot of speculation over whether or not Mayer will keep her job, but it’s hard to imagine the board dumps her if it actively pursues a sale. Let the buyer decide who they want to run things. Promoting a board member to something like executive chair, on the other hand…
>>
So if Yahoo closes, what happens to Tumblr?
>>
>>4647
I think it might be more accurate to think of it as a rebranding and restructuring of Yahoo to AliBaba more than it is closing, but that depends on #3, if there are any companies waiting in the wings to snap up the bits and pieces they want to liquidate in the mean time.

This is another one of the original pre-1999 dotcom-bubble internet companies without a strong business model is biting the dust. It just reconfirms (for me at least) that most of those old companies were worthless to start with. Very few today remember sites like pets.com, WebCrawler.com, or HotWired.

Rahm is scapegoating the poor guy, but he had a bad rep from what I hear anyway and would have probably left on his own soon in the first place if not for Rahm saving face.

It's really all about the video, you know the one. They never intended the public to see it but couldn't find a way to conveniently get rid of it before that guy filed the FOIA request months ago. Now the whole city government is in damage control while the rampage on the streets continues.

http://juneauempire.com/local/2015-11-30/mayor-fisk-found-dead-his-home

>Juneau Mayor Stephen “Greg” Fisk is dead.

>Fisk’s son, Ian, found his 70-year-old father collapsed on the floor of the Kennedy Street home where he lived alone. A 911 call reported Fisk’s death to the Juneau Police Department about 3:30 p.m. JPD and Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to the call and pronounced Fisk dead at the scene.

>“The medical examiner has authorized an autopsy, so we’ll be doing that,” JPD chief Bryce Johnson said about five hours after the initial call for help.

>Fisk was elected mayor in October, beating incumbent mayor Merrill Sanford with 65.9 percent of the votes. He was sworn in Oct. 20 after a campaign in which he said his highest priority would be diversifying Juneau’s economy.

>No cause of death

On December 2, the joint investigation headquarters consisting of police headquarters in Kyoto, Shimane, Yamaguchi and Kochi arrested a 38-year-old male office worker from Osaka-city on suspicion of copyright infringement (infringement of public transmission rights).

According to the police, the suspect posted the first and another one episode of GATE: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri TV anime onto video-sharing website FC2 via its "FC2 Live" service without the copyright holder Warner Entertainment Japan's' permission on September 4, 2015. The police already searched his house and seized his PCs. The suspect has admitted his charge and said that he wanted to share values with others by streaming the anime on the internet.

FC2 has been infamous for being a place to share illegally uploaded videos. The founder of the site in his 40s has been placed on a nation-wanted list by Japanese police. He is believed to be staying in the U.S. to acquire the U.S. Citizenship.

A man identified as David Olugboyega, convicted for stealing N14, 570 ($70.00) from three people on March 20, 2003 at Araromi Street, Ikere-Ekiti, Nigeria was sentenced to death by hanging by an Ado Ekiti High court today December 3rd.

The presiding judge, Justice John Adeyeye while delivering judgement said "An accused may be convicted on his own confession alone as long as the court was satisfied. Based on the confessional statement of the accused, the court found him guilty as charged. Besides, the prosecution has also proved his case beyond reasonable doubt by providing seven witnesses. The accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging. This will serve as deterrent to others in the society. May God have mercy on your soul," he said.

According to a report by Tribune Newspapers , the prosecutor, Alaba Adeyemi, told the court that the convict armed with weapons including gun and cutlass, robbed three people, specifically robbed Kola Owolabi of N8,000, Beatrice Olawumi, N5,000 and Idowu Abiodun, N1,570. Seven witnesses where provided to prove the case.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and also confessed to have been involved in series of robberies. The convict confessed to have joined a gang when he was in a prison.

Headline: Swedish Foreign Minister Accuses Israel of Executing Palestinian Assailants Without Trial
