>Hundreds of terrorists will fan out to infiltrate western Europe and the U.S. to carry out attacks on a wider scale as Islamic State is defeated in Syria, FBI Director James Comey warned.

>“At some point there’s going to be a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” Comey said Wednesday in New York. “We saw the future of this threat in Brussels and Paris,” said the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, adding that future attacks will be on “an order of magnitude greater.”

When is Obama finally going to call this what it is: Anthrophobic animal extremism.

First the gator attack and now this. This will surely lead to the whole animal kingdom turning against us. And they're not even fighting fair. They're clearly targeting children. Fucking cowards.

I bet the girl, and or people in the vicinity, had been acting obnoxiously. Contrary to popular sensationalist news headlines, animals, larger than a bug, do not act irrationally, disregarding humans of course.
>>
>>63761
You don't know that -- the elephant could have been dicking around and didn't fully realize that humans don't have the same fucking bulletproof skin as them.

Also smart animals can and do act irrationally, just like humans -- more so even if their lifetime in captivity results in a type of domestication related to neoteny, where their complete dependence on humans for sustenance makes them basically susceptible to child-like tantrums.

But there's probably tens of other things exclusive to elephants that could be going on as well. The point is, don't anthropomorphize too much -- they may be insanely smart (we still have no idea if they're smarter than apes, or even us, especially now that one has learned to fucking talk), but they're a different species by a big margin.

I know the site is rough, this story also appears in right wing rags such as Jihad Watch and less rangy right wing papers like Breitbart and The Sun.

I have two points regarding this story:
1) it's only being reported by the right wing, most mainstream news sites are flat out ignoring the information that's been publicly released
2) The situation calls for action instead of either fear or compassion.

which is why you have to read news from both sides, i'd choose bias reporting over flat out indifference because its inconvenient to the narrative

http://www.wsj.com/articles/washington-state-files-100-million-lawsuit-against-comcast-1470145832

>OLYMPIA, Wash.—Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Monday filed a $100 million lawsuit against Comcast Corp. , saying the cable and internet giant deceived customers into paying tens of millions of dollars in fees for a “near-worthless” service protection plan.

>Mr. Ferguson, who filed the lawsuit in King County Superior Court, said at a news conference that in addition to its misleading service protection plan, Philadelphia-based Comcast committed more than 1.8 million violations of the state’s Consumer Protection Act by charging improper service call fees and using improper credit screening practices.

>“This case is a classic example of a big corporation systematically deceiving Washington state consumers and putting profits above those consumers,” said Mr. Ferguson.

>According to the lawsuit, Comcast misled 500,000 customers in Washington state by having them pay a $4.99 monthly fee to avoid being charged if a technician visited their home to fix an issue covered by the plan. But Mr. Ferguson said the company didn’t reveal that the plan didn’t cover repairs to wiring inside a wall. As part of the investigation, customers contacted Comcast numerous times. Mr. Ferguson said that 75 % of the time, Comcast representatives falsely told the customers that the plan covered all inside wiring.

Co-op internet is the way of the future. Amazing that people still willingly give them money.
>>

First off, I'm an easy customer. I understand that shit happens. I don't make nonsensical demands of a product. I don't begrudge them for what they charge me.

That being said. When I had comcast, I had an ongoing service issue with my internet dropping. The cable tv would work, but the internet would cut out completely. Predictably so. 5 days a week, I had to reset, unplug, reboot, etc etc for 15 minutes to use the internet. And then 2 hours later, the same thing. Like I said, I'm a young guy who's used to tech doing what it wants to sometimes. All I wanted was an answer. Why? Is this something I can fix? Is it the cable or my computer? Can someone just test my shit and give me an answer. I had two techs come out. One determined it must be the box - got a new one, and it continued. The other literally had me run a connection speed test, and then said "well idk, get a new box?" Like "you're on your own man. Just keep paying."

I didn't need them to inspect the integrity of the copper in the lines. Just tell me something non-obvious. Like alternative solutions. I'm so glad WA is standing up to them. Companies like comcast are worse than ISIS. I'll gladly pay for your service if you can not go faceless when I need an answer. You're just taking my fucking money at that point.

>Ladysmith, South Africa (CNN)The killing happened in broad daylight.
>It was Mandela Day, a day many South Africans dedicate to helping others.
>Khanyisile Ngobesi-Sibisi's car was full of blankets to donate to charity, but as she drove around a bend near the edge of this small town, a white car pulled up alongside her convoy.

>"She was following me from behind. I heard the first gunshot; not knowing my mother had been shot. Then I heard the second gunshot," says Zhamokhule, her 18-year-old son.
>Two gunmen shot Khanyisile eight times through the driver's side door and window, according to witnesses.
>"I can't explain the feeling I was having," Zhamokhule says. "I was shocked by disbelief that my mother had been shot."
>Zhamokhule applied pressure to his mother's multiple wounds, but to no avail; she died at the scene.

>Khanyisile was a popular figure in Ladysmith -- a teacher at the local primary school, and a life-long member of the African National Congress (ANC).

>Many here saw a bright future for her.
She was standing as a Ladysmith councilor in South Africa's upcoming election, and her face smiles proudly down from the election posters still hanging on the street where she was murdered.
>"Vote ANC," they read.
>"My mother told me that someone warned her not to go to the Mandela Day event," says Zhamokhule.
Ladysmith's indoor stadium is packed with hundreds of mourners clad in the ANC's traditional colors: green, black and gold.
>A relative of Khanyisile steps up to the microphone, "Yes, some of you are mourning, but some of you are celebrating. Because you did this."

>Khanyisile was just the latest victim in a series of unsolved murders of ANC politicians in KwaZulu-Natal.
>In the run-up to this election, more than a dozen politicians have been killed in this province: shot while watching TV; killed taking their children to school; ambushed on the way home from political meetings.
>Not a single case has been solved.
>"We are making progress. It just takes time," says Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi a spokesman for the Hawks, the country's specialized investigation division.
>Several former investigators from South Africa's police told CNN that ANC members could be killing rivals to access elected government positions. The positions can mean access to corrupt wealth, they said.
>Even the ANC's leadership admits the party is wracked by factional infighting.
>"These killings are just the tip of the iceberg, people are killed when people can't be coerced by other means," says David Bruce, an independent researcher who studies violent crime.
>"It says a lot about how politics takes place and politics is organized. Access to political office is not just a means of making a living. It is a way of establishing and maintaining networks of patronage," he says.

Scottish police have identified more than 500 victims or potential victims of online child sex abuse.

In the first national operation of its kind, 30 million images of abuse were uncovered and seventy-seven people charged.

The 390 charges in all include rape, grooming, sexual extortion and indecent communication.

“At least three cases we’ve seen offenders who have had over ten million images each of children on their computers and other devices,” said Detective Inspector Andy McWilliams, of Police Scotland.

Police say abusers have clear tactics.

“They will identify those that they think may be vulnerable for one reason or another, they will seek personal information which they will exploit, they will suggest the exchange of images and images that they send may not always be of themselves. And that may lead to a suggestion and an arrangement of a meeting where children can be abused,” explained Malcolm Graham, Assistant Chief Constable of Police Scotland.

>Voting rights activists scored legal victories in key presidential election states Friday, with the most important being a federal appeals court ruling that North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature enacted new voting restrictions in 2013 to intentionally blunt the growing clout of African American voters.

>The unanimous decision by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit was an overwhelming victory for the Justice Department and civil rights groups. Election law experts consider North Carolina’s voter law one of the nation’s most far-reaching.

>“The new provisions target African Americans with almost surgical precision” and “impose cures for problems that did not exist,” Judge Diana Gribbon Motz wrote for the panel. “Thus the asserted justifications cannot and do not conceal the State’s true motivation.”

>North Carolina lawmakers overhauled the state’s election law soon after the Supreme Court’s decision in Shelby County v. Holder, which freed certain states with a history of discrimination from a Voting Rights Act requirement that they receive federal approval before changing voting rules. North Carolina was one of the states.

>Legislators quickly eliminated same-day voter registration, rolled back of a week of early voting and put an end to out-of-precinct voting. The appeals court’s ruling reinstates those provisions that civil rights groups, led by the state NAACP, said were used disproportionately by African American voters.

>The panel seemed to say it found the equivalent of a smoking gun. “Before enacting that law, the legislature requested data on the use, by race, of a number of voting practices,” Motz wrote. “Upon receipt of the race data, the General Assembly enacted legislation that restricted voting and registration in five different ways, all of which disproportionately affected African Americans.”

>The panel found the law was passed with racially discriminatory intent, violating the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act. It said that “intentionally targeting a particular race’s access to the franchise because its members vote for a particular party, in a predictable manner, constitutes discriminatory purpose.”

>Democrats and civil rights groups have also filed suits in Ohio and Arizona. The North Carolina decision by the Richmond-based court on Friday reverses a 485-page ruling by District Judge Thomas D. Schroeder that upheld the voting measures passed in 2013.

>The bid was something of a longshot, especially since the incumbents were well liked and had proven vehicles. But Sierra Nevada last year won a slice of the contract, along with incumbents Orbital ATK and SpaceX, and could begin flying by late 2019.

>The victory breathed life into the program, and the company has been progressing ever since, said Mark Sirangelo, the heads of Sierra Nevada’s space systems division.

>He said he was especially proud that the Dream Chaser would be tested in the same area where so many other programs got off the ground, from the first test flights of the shuttle to Chuck Yeager’s breaking of the sound barrier.

>“We’re picking up that torch and carrying it forward,” Sirangelo said. “There’s a lot of historical meaning to us, a continuation of the long legacy of America testing advanced airplanes and leading the world in this arena.”

>First, the Dream Chaser will undergo ground testing. But eventually it will be carried aloft by a heavy-lift helicopter, then let go, gliding back down to Earth to practice one the most important parts of flight: the landing.

>A man wore a fairly memorable mask — a white and black one known for its use by the Anonymous group — when he robbed a 7-Eleven store in Montgomery County, as seen on surveillance video, police said.

>The convenience store is on Liberty Mill Road near Clopper Road in Germantown. Police this week put out a surveillance video and photo of the man in an attempt to identify him.

>The armed robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said a clerk was working in the store when a man came in. The man was armed with a handgun.

>He pointed it at the clerk and then “motioned with the gun toward the cash register,” according to police.

>In the video, the man is seen — dressed in all black and wearing the mask over his face — holding a gun as a clerk pulls out a register drawer of cash. The man grabs money and leaves the store. The amount he took is undisclosed.

>The mask has been seen in different settings, mostly protests, including by a group called Anonymous’s Project Chanology, which protests the Church of Scientology. Originally, the mask was meant to represent Guy Fawkes, who was part of the Gunpowder Plot — an effort to blow up the House of Lords in London in the 1600s.

>The robber in the Montgomery case is described as being in his mid-20s and standing about 5-feet-11-inches tall with a medium build, according to police. His race is not known.
