>Fifteen years ago, Steve Ballmer memorably declared Linux was a cancer. Now, Microsoft announced it was joining the Linux Foundation. That’s not a completely unprecedented move, given that Microsoft has been getting steadily chummier with open source software over the last few years. There’s a Linux Bash shell integrated into Windows 10’s Anniversary Update, after all. But joining the organization responsible for maintaining Linux and for funding various open source projects? That’s a true 180 from where the company used to be.

>Microsoft also launched a beta of SQL Server for Linux, while Google just joined the .NET Foundation, PC World reports. Microsoft is releasing a version of Visual Studio for the Mac, although this is based on Xamarin, not a straight port of Visual Studio. Samsung has a preview version of Visual Studio for Tizen, which will allow .NET applications to be built for Samsung’s non-Android hardware. If you wanted to blow someone’s mind from 2010, try telling them that Microsoft will help build Linux, Samsung wants VS support for Tizen, and Google has added .NET after spending so much time and effort investing in Java.

(CNN) -- CNN's Wolf Blitzer, a former White House correspondent, issued a rebuke to Donald Trump's transition team on Thursday for its failure to notify reporters the President-elect was leaving Washington for New York.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA

"It is truly unacceptable," he added, citing his experience as CNN's White House correspondent. "The President-elect and the President. A pool of reporters should be with them on a trip like that."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

After meeting with President Obama, Trump and his team departed for New York, apparently without informing members of the press.

Ringside With Steve Bannon at Trump Tower as the President-Elect's Strategist Plots "An Entirely New Political Movement" (Exclusive)

"I'm not a white nationalist, I'm a nationalist. I'm an economic nationalist," Bannon tells THR media columnist Michael Wolff as the controversial Breitbart News chief turned White House advisor unleashes on Hillary Clinton, Fox News and his critics.

In late summer when I went up to see Steve Bannon, recently named CEO of the Donald Trump presidential campaign, in his office at Trump Tower in New York, he outlined a preposterous-sounding scenario. Trump, he said, would do surprisingly well among women, Hispanics and African-Americans, in addition to working men, and hence take Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan - and therefore the election.

On Nov. 15, when I went back to Trump Tower, Bannon, promoted by the president-elect to chief strategist for the incoming administration, and by the media as the official symbol of all things hateful and virulent about the coming Trump presidency, said, as matter-of-factly as when he first sketched it out for me, "I told you so."

It's the Bannon theme, the myopia of the media, that it tells only the story that confirms its own view, that in the end it was incapable of seeing an alternative outcome and of making a true risk assessment of the political variables - reaffirming the Hillary Clinton camp's own political myopia.

This defines the parallel realities in which liberals, in their view of themselves, represent a morally superior character and Bannon - immortalized on Twitter as a white nationalist, racist, anti-Semite thug - the ultimate depravity of Trumpism.

The Democratic Party betrayed its working-man roots, just as Hillary Clinton betrayed the long-time Clinton connection - Bill Clinton's connection - to the working man. "The Clinton strength," he says, "was to play to people without a college education. High school people. That's how you win elections." And, likewise, the Republican party would come to betray its working-man constituency forged under Reagan. In sum, the working man was betrayed by the establishment, or what he dismisses as the "donor class."

To say that he sees this donor class - which in his telling is also "ascendant America," e.g. the elites, as well as "the metrosexual bubble" that encompasses cosmopolitan sensibilities to be found as far and wide as Shanghai, London's Chelsea, Hollywood and the Upper West Side - as a world apart, is an understatement.

In his view, there's hardly a connection between this world and its opposite - fly-over America, left-behind America, downwardly mobile America - hardly a common language. This is partly why he regards the liberal characterization of himself as socially vile, as the politically incorrect devil incarnate, as laughable - and why he is stoutly unapologetic. They -liberals and media - don't understand what he is saying, or why, or to whom.

"I'm not a white nationalist, I'm a nationalist. I'm an economic nationalist," he tells me. "The globalists gutted the American working class and created a middle class in Asia. The issue now is about Americans looking to not get f-ed over. If we deliver-" by "we" he means the Trump White House "-we'll get 60 percent of the white vote, and 40 percent of the black and Hispanic vote and we'll govern for 50 years. That's what the Democrats missed, they were talking to these people with companies with a $9 billion market cap employing nine people. It's not reality. They lost sight of what the world is about."

In a nascent administration that seems, at best, random in its beliefs, Bannon can seem to be not just a focused voice, but almost a messianic one: "Like [Andrew] Jackson's populism, we're going to build an entirely new political movement," he says. "It's everything related to jobs. The conservatives are going to go crazy. I'm the guy pushing a trillion-dollar infrastructure plan.

With negative interest rates throughout the world, it's the greatest opportunity to rebuild everything. Shipyards, iron works, get them all jacked up. We're just going to throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks. It will be as exciting as the 1930s, greater than the Reagan revolution - conservatives, plus populists, in an economic nationalist movement."

Bannon represents, he not unreasonably believes, the fall of the establishment. The self-satisfied, in-bred and homogenous views of the establishment are both what he is against and what has provided the opening for the Trump revolution. "The media bubble is the ultimate symbol of what's wrong with this country," he continues. "It's just a circle of people talking to themselves who have no f-ing idea what's going on. If The New York Times didn't exist, CNN and MSNBC would be a test pattern. The Huffington Post and everything else is predicated on The New York Times. It's a closed circle of information from which Hillary Clinton got all her information - and her confidence. That was our opening."

"You have probably the greatest orator since William Jennings Bryan, coupled with an economic populist message and two political parties that are so owned by the donors that they don't speak to their audience. But he speaks in a non-political vernacular, he communicates with these people in a very visceral way."

China is to ban all TV content that features Korean stars including dramas, movies, entertainment programs and advertisements according to Chinese media outlets on Sunday.

The ban is viewed as retaliation against Korea's decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.

"We are to ban all Korean entertainment programs under the new guideline that came down from the government," said an ENT Group official, a Chinese Media & Entertainment company.

"However, programs that have been approved by reviews and meet the official guidelines of entertainment programs have been excluded."

Although no official document has been notarized by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, which handles all TV programs in China, broadcast executives are seeking to deal with the ban.

With tension between Korea and China over THAAD continuing to grow, Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the United States Forces Korea Commander, said the ground-to-air weapon system would be deployed in the next eight to 10 months.

Q: It is said that China is tightening up its restriction on the ROK by requiring Chinese TV stations not to air advertisements casting pop stars from the ROK. Can you confirm that? What is your comment on that? Does China take the move because of THAAD?

A: First and foremost, I have never heard about any restriction on the ROK. Second, the Chinese side is always positive to people-to-people and cultural exchanges with the ROK. However, I believe you can all understand that such kind of exchanges should be based on public support. Third, the Chinese side's steadfast opposition to the deployment of THAAD by the US in the ROK is well known to all. The Chinese public has voiced their dissatisfaction as well. Relevant parties must have taken note of that.

>S. Korean shares end lower on institutional selling
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2016/11/21/0200000000AEN20161121007151320.html

SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares closed lower Monday as institutions and retail investors sought to reduce risky shares ahead of what local analysts called an imminent U.S. rate hike. The local currency further lost ground against the U.S. greenback.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 8.53 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,966.05. Trading volume was slim at 213.7 million shares, worth 3.2 trillion won (US$2.7 billion) with losers outnumbering gainers 645 to 168.

The index pared earlier gains as institutions and individual investors turned to massive selling while foreigners remained net buyers.

Institutions offloaded a net 48.63 billion won, while retail investors dumped a net 39.5 billion won. Foreign investors scooped up a net 66.84 billion won, extending their buying streak to a third consecutive session.

"Concerns over a possible U.S. rate hike in December have been around for months. And the U.S. dollar has further strengthened since Donald Trump was elected the next U.S. president, affecting stock markets in most emerging countries," Mirae Asset Daewoo analyst Ko Seung-hee said.

Chinese Government Looking to Ban South Korean Entertainment Content
http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/english/news/industry/16545-prohibition-order-chinese-government-looking-ban-south-korean-entertainment

On November 21, the three largest entertainment companies in South Korea hit a 52-week low without exception on the KOSDAQ stock exchange.

Specifically, SM, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment lost 8.16%, 6.9% and 2.79%, respectively. Cosmetics manufacturers remained bearish as well. For instance, Amore Pacific lost 3.76% and the rate of decline was 3.1% for LG Household & Health Care, 5.73% for Cosmax, 5.48% for Tony Moly and 3.48% for It’s Skin.

This is because of the news that the Chinese government would ban South Korean entertainment content. According to Chinese news agencies, the Chinese government told local broadcasting stations not to air South Korean TV dramas, TV shows, movies and the like although the government has denied the instruction. Earlier, the China National Tourism Administration imposed regulations on travel to South Korea, mentioning that the regulations were against low-cost travel.

No South Korean TV drama has been permitted to be broadcast in China since September last year. “It seems that rumors are turning into reality with regard to the Chinese government’s restrictions on Hallyu content,” said an industry insider, adding, “The restrictions are predicted to include not only TV broadcasting but also broadcasting via Internet platforms.”

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2016/11/16/trumps-rise-first-stage-white-nationalist-movement-says-alt-right-leader-dallas

Donald Trump was elected president.

"When it happened, I thought I might have been dreaming," he said.

Spencer, a 38-year-old Dallas native and graduate of St. Mark's School of Texas prep school, is a key intellectual leader of the alternative right, a label he coined in 2008 to describe the radical conservative movement defined by white nationalism and a fervent resistance to multiculturalism and globalism.

In his mind, Trump "is the first step, the first stage towards identity politics for white people."

"That is something major," Spencer said Tuesday night. "He's not your father's conservative. He's not in this to promote free markets or neoconservative foreign politics or to protect Israel, for that matter. He's in this to protect his people. He's in this to protect the historic American nation."

"They are a conscious repudiation of the American conservative movement," said Dan Morenoff, a 42-year-old lawyer from North Dallas and former head of the Republican Jewish Coalition chapter in North Texas. "They affirmatively reject the American ideals that conservatives have tried to conserve over the last 50 years. But I think a better description for them is barbarians. They are barbarians who would replace American culture with an ethno-national state."

OOOYYY VEEEEEYYYY

These views have some local Jewish community members "horrified," but Morenoff said no one has any reason to be afraid. The alt-right may support Trump, but the general sentiment in the American community is far from the hate he says they espouse. He is however "preaching constant vigilance to people -- wherever they are on the political spectrum."

>With storms likely to become stronger and more destructive, NASA is looking to use a fleet of microsatellites to closely monitor the development of weather patterns in different parts of the world.

>The American space agency announced on Friday, Nov. 11, that it has already begun preparations for the launch of its Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System mission next month.

>The project's goal is to accurately measure different factors that lead to the formation of hurricanes and tropical cyclones. It will also collect data on the intensity of weather disturbances, track their movement across the globe and even calculate the chances of storm surges occurring.

>NASA associate administrator Thomas Zurbuchen explained that the constellation of eight satellites set to be used for the CYGNSS mission will provide scientists with information that a single orbital probe cannot. It can measure the surface wind speeds inside of hurricanes, as well as those of tropical cyclones, using high time-resolutions.

>Data from the microsatellites can be used to improve our understanding of deadly storms and even help predict how these disturbances form.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2016/11/14/an-advanced-russian-jet-just-crashed-during-its-debut-off-the-syrian-coast/

>A Russian fighter jet crashed in the Mediterranean Sea while trying to land on Russia’s sole aircraft carrier, which is stationed off the Syrian coast, the Russian Ministry of Defense said Monday in a statement.

>The plane went down several miles from the carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, according to the Ministry of Defense. The pilot ejected and was recovered.

...
>It is unclear why the aircraft crashed; landing and taking off from an aircraft carrier is extremely difficult — even for the best-trained pilots. Russia’s carrier-based air wing is relatively inexperienced compared with its U.S. counterparts, and its deployment to the Syrian coast appears to be a combat operation and a testing ground for some of its capabilities, including the addition of new MiG-29Ks to its inventory.

>While land-based versions of the MiG-29 have been around since the 1980s, the MiG-29K underwent limited testing during the Cold War and was built only in modest quantities by Russia in the early 2000s. According to news reports, the MiG-29Ks were added to the Kuznetsov’s carrier wing this summer. Specifically designed to handler the rigors of carrier operations at sea, the MiG-29K boasts modest improvements over some of its older variants.

They say the pilot is fine, and ejected a few miles from the aircraft carrier. It sounds like a controlled scenario; perhaps the landing gear would not come down, so they did the smart thing and ditched it.

I agree with the idea that priests can absolve you of abortion. They can do it with murder and all manner of similar sins- the point of the priest is to have someone who can forgive sins, saying they can talk to God about one thing but need to have their manager do it for another is silly.

President Xi Jinping has made it forcefully clear that there will be no independence for Hong Kong, the chief executive said Sunday in Lima, Peru.
"Very simply put and very forcefully. The president said there is no room whatsoever for "Hong Kong independence" under the 'one country, two systems' arrangement,'' Leung Chun-ying said.
He was referring to political forces advocating a breakaway for Hong Kong from the embrace of the mainland.
Leung was in Peru for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, which ended Sunday.
