According to a Facebook post that recently went viral, a man devastated by the death of his girlfriend grew very attached to a 10-foot cobra which he believes is his lost partner reincarnated. For the last couple of years, the two have been inseparable, doing everything together, from watching TV to going to the gym.

The bizarre story was originally posted on the Facebook page of one Worranan Sarasalin from Kanchanaburi, Thailand, along with a set of photos of the man and his beloved cobra in various circumstances. Sarasalin, who covers a variety of local news stories on a daily basis, claims that the unnamed man developed an unusual connection with the large reptile after noticing a “Striking resemblance” to his deceased girlfriend and becoming convinced that she had come back to life as the serpent.

“Real love is true,” Worranan wrote. “This man believes that his girlfriend reborn again as this white cobra after she passed away few years ago. He saw the snake and noticed a striking resemblance to the woman he once loved. He is very happy to spend time, talk and play with this snake. He looks after this snake very well because he believes that the snake was his girlfriend.”

“He never stays away from the snake . He takes it everywhere he goes or even while he’s sleeping,” he added.

Apparently, people have been trying to warn the man about the dangers of living with a loose cobra, but he doesn’t seem too concerned about being bit. “He’s well known to be the man who lives with a snake. He has been warned several times that it is dangerous but he still carries on,” Sarasalin claims.

In the photos posted on Facebook, the man can be seen watching TV with the snake, hanging out with it in the park and even pumping iron in the gym with the cobra eyeing him curiously. They do seem to be very close, but there really must be more to their relationship, and hopefully someone will track this guy down and get some more details. With this story having recently been picked up by major Western media outlets like The Mirror, there’a actually a decent chance of that happening. We’ll keep you updated.

>A trip to one of the nation's natural wonders ended in a unnatural tragedy.
>A 23-year-old Oregon man essentially dissolved inside a hot spring at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming after he accidentally fell into it.

>The bizarre incident happened back in June, when Colin Nathaniel Scott went to the park with his sister to find a place to "hot pot."
>According to a recently released report from park officials, Scott and his sister went to an unauthorized area near the Norris Geyser.
>"They were specifically moving in that area for a place that they could potentially get into and soak," >Deputy Chief Ranger Lorant Veress told CNN affiliate KULR. "I think they call it hot potting."
>Scott had reached down to check the temperature of a spring when he slipped and fell into it. Rescuers later found Scott's body inside the pool, but couldn't retrieve it because of a lighting storm in the area. When they came back the next day, no remains were found beneath the spring's churning, acidic waters.
>"In a very short order, there was a significant amount of dissolving," Veress said.
>The parks' geyers and springs are acidic because they are fed by thermal water deep underground that picks up sulfuric acid as it rises to the surface. The sulfuric acid is produced by microorganisms that break down hydrogen sulfide in rocks and soil.
>Scott's sister was recording on her cell phone when he fell in, but the park service won't release the video.
>Veress stressed the importance for park visitors to obey all warning signs.
>"Because (Yellowstone) is wild and it hasn't been overly altered by people to make things a whole lot safer, it's got dangers," he said. "And a place like Yellowstone, which is set aside because of the incredible geothermal resources that are here, all the more so."

A lump of faeces stored in the back of a Danish museum has been traced back to a bishop who lived in the city of Aalborg at the end of the 17th Century.

Researchers discovered the lump in a broken bottle. Analysis revealed remnants of an exotic diet of fig, grapes, pepper and buckwheat.

The faeces were found when the old bishop's manor was excavated in 1937.

The team then decided it had belonged to Bishop Jens Bircherod, from an island whose residents ate buckwheat.

"It all fits nicely with the bishop who lived in that house from 1694 to 1708," says Jette Linaa, from Moesgaard Museum in the Danish city of Aarhus.

The general diet for the people of Aalborg at that time was gruel, cabbage, pork and beef but buckwheat was particular to the island of Funen, some 200km (125 miles) away.

"He had a typical upper-class diet, he was part of the upper class," she told the BBC.

Digging up the bishop's toilet

Ms Linaa described how she and colleague Christian Vraengmose had found a box in a storage area of the museum while investigating the movement of people into Danish cities from the 15th to 17th centuries.

Image caption The faeces were found in the latrine excavated in 1937
Archaeologists had stored what they found when they tore down buildings in the centre of Aalborg to make way for a square. The items found recently by the museum archaeologists were from the latrine in the bishop's palace.

Inside the box was the broken bottle and its unusual contents. "Our archaeobotanist analysed it and found various seeds, nuts and berries," Jette Linaa said.

Quite apart from the faeces, the archaeologists also uncovered porcelain tableware from the Dutch city of Delft, including a jar, a bowl and a glass flask.

The next task for the researchers is to find out exactly who lived in the bishop's manor.

"We know, of course it was the bishop, his wife and his children, and then a few servants, but not at this point how many," Ms Linaa said.

And there will be further work on faeces from two other latrines in Aalborg.

>An Illinois man was arrested on Tuesday in the dismemberment murder of a toddler whose body parts were found in a Chicago lagoon more than a year ago, police said.

>Kamel Harris, who was caring for 2-year-old Kyrian Knox and reported him missing in September 2015, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder, concealment of homicidal death and dismembering a human body, Chicago police officials said.

>Evidence against Harris includes the boy's blood found in the carpeting of his vehicle as well as statements from witnesses, Chicago Police Commander Kevin Duffin told reporters at a news conference.

>Duffin said investigators believe Harris, of Rockford, "snapped" and killed the child, who was lactose intolerant, because he had been crying after drinking milk.

>"A major break in the case was the fact that he had denied that the baby had ever been inside his vehicle," Duffin said, which contradicted the finding of blood evidence there.

>Parts of the boy's body were recovered from a lagoon in Chicago's Garfield Park over Labor Day weekend in 2015.

>Harris, who was caring for Knox while his mother moved to another state, later reported him missing, police said. The cause of death for the boy has not been determined.

On Oct. 24, a 4-year-old girl went missing from her home in the Charaideo district of upper Assam, a mostly tribal state in northeast India.

Last Monday, the child’s body was found in a forest about 75 to 90 yards from the Ratanpur tea estate where she lived with her parents. She had been decapitated and her arms had been severed.

Both her arms and her head were found scattered near the body on the forest floor.

The horrific dismembering was allegedly the result of a 14-year-old girl, who lived in the same village, losing her mobile phone.

Wanting it back, her parents — Hanuman Bhumij and his wife, Many Bhumij — turned to black magic, police said.

As Prasanta Phukan, an inspector in charge of the Sonari Police Station in Assam, told The Washington Post, many in the remote tribal area are uneducated and steeped in superstition.

They conducted a prayer ritual that Phukan said was performed by Gul Mhammad Ali, also known as Gulam, a tantric, or black witch priest, in the village.

With Gulam were his nephew Hajrat Ali and another assistant, Ariful Haqmulla.

Part of the prayer ritual to retrieve the mobile phone included sacrificing the 4-year-old girl. On Oct. 24, they allegedly kidnapped her and proceeded to horribly disfigure her, eventually killing her.

Police have arrested Hanuman and Many, along with the two assistants in the ritual. Gulam, though, has fled.

The 14-year-old who originally lost her phone was not arrested, since she is a minor. The family of the victim and the family that took part in the prayer ritual knew each other from living together in the same small village.

Everyone involved, including the deceased child, are Adivasis, descendants of indigenous people in India who have been the objects of discrimination and exploitation in India for years.

These communities tend to be poor and uneducated, generally working as laborers. Many of them tend to be deeply superstitious, and their belief systems can involve goddesses and witches.

Crimes, particularly forms of ritual human sacrifice, stemming from these occult beliefs are not unheard of in more rural parts of India.

In 2006, the Guardian published a story titled “Indian cult kills children for goddess” that discussed a few different human sacrifices in the name of the occult. It cited an unofficially tally that 28 humans had been sacrificed in western Uttar Pradesh in four months. During that time, four tantrics were jailed for these crimes.

One woman who was having night terrors abducted a 3-year-old on the advice of a “holy man.” She and two other men allegedly cut the boy’s nose, ears and hands off after covering him in ghee and sandalwood. They left his bleeding body in front of an image of Kali.

Last June, to offer a more recent example, a 55-year-old man in a rural village in Jharkhand, a state in eastern India, was beheaded in what was allegedly a ritualistic sacrifice. The offering was meant to bring about a better harvest and more timely rains, police told the Hindustan Times.

Police believe that the crime was carried out by the Orkas or Mudkatwa, which the Times reported is “an occultist group that buries human heads in paddy fields for better rains and harvest.”

Sometimes, though, beliefs are used to potentially cover up other motives.

A week prior to the 55-year-old’s beheading, a 5-year-old was beheaded on the Rangapara Tea Estate in Assam. People living in the area blamed the crime on a tantric named Kali Puja. A mob lynched him, supposedly for this crime, though police later said that the child was killed over a monetary dispute and the lynched person was Nanu Mirdha, who was not a tantric, Firspost reported.

Meanwhile on the other side, those accused of being witches or black magic priests are often hunted and killed.

As The Post’s Terrance McCoy wrote in July 2014, “In places where superstition and vigilantism overlap and small rumors can turn deadly, nearly 2,100 people accused of witchcraft have been killed between 2000 and 2012.”

This, though, might not come close to showing the breadth of the problem.

“Like the proverbial tip of a very deep iceberg, available data hides much of the reality of a problem that is deeply ingrained in society,” stated New Delhi-based Partners for Law in Development. “It is only the most gruesome cases that are reported — most cases of witch-hunting go unreported and unrecorded.”

The executions take place in deeply disturbing ways.

As Singh wrote:

The helpless ‘witches’ are hounded and punished by being stripped naked, paraded around the villages, their hair is burnt off or their heads tonsured, their faces blackened, their noses cut off, their teeth pulled out (they are supposedly defanged) so that they can no longer curse, they are whipped, they are branded, sometimes, they are forced to eat human excreta and finally, they are put to death (the victim is hanged, impaled, hacked, lynched or buried alive). Surprisingly, such stomach-churning, toe-curling torture takes place not in dingy, shadowy places, but mostly in vast, open village lands where the cheering crowd can fill a modest stadium.

This fear of black magic runs deeply through the community. In 2006, for example, a family of five — a tea plantation worker and his four children — were beheaded when several members of the Adivasi community at the Sadharu tea plantation became ill and died.

“A trial was held to prove if Munda and his family were involved in casting evil spells in the tea garden that led to a bout of epidemics in the area,” police officer D Das told the BBC. “They said the killings would appease the gods.”

Pretty cool. They had people swap Facebook feeds to ones representing the opposite viewpoint in the run-up to the election. Most of the people got butthurt and didn't continue, predictably enough. Some stuck with it though, their reactions are pretty interesting.

Kind of stupid and a bit chilling how many people get their news strictly from Facebook tho.

I hope they are serious about banning fake news clickbait. I have my doubts this will happen, It seems like facebook would want to cultivate relationships with those clickbait companies so they can sell them all their valuable user personal data later, and just give lip service to how horrible they are in the press.
>>
>>86157
The fake news thing is a bit more far-reaching than that. Policing the internet for it is not Facebooks responsibility so I'm surprised they said anything at all.
The takeaway here is that the average user is so busy (or so stupid) that they would share articles based on the title, rather than the content. Those article mills make a decent chunk too, if they have ads, malware, and the views needed to profit off of.

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

The man charged in connection with the shooting death of Autumn Burkhart made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Joshua Bumphus asked the judge if he could enter a plea, but the judge told him that will happen at his next court date.

Bumphus and Elijah Roberts were shooting at each other in the 1000 block of Powell Street. Autumn Burkhart was caught in the crossfire and later died at an Evansville hospital.

Autumn's death has been ruled a homicide, but it is not sure which bullet from which gun killed her so no one has been charged in her case yet.

Bumphus will be back in court next Thursday.

With the financial market jittery since U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s hinted at raising U.S. interest rates, Korea’s central bank announced it intends to intervene in the local market with the hopes of stabilizing it for the first time in eight years.

The Korean central bank said it will buy six government bonds worth 1.5 trillion won ($1.27 billion) at 2 p.m. today ranging from those with maturities of three years to those that mature in 20 years.

This is not the first time that the Bank of Korea has purchased Korean bonds; it purchased them three times last year alone. The last time was in October 2015, when the BOK bought 700 billion won in bonds. However, this is the first time since the 2008 global crisis that the Korean central bank is purchasing such a massive amount of government bonds. That year, the bank bought 1 trillion in treasuries on Nov. 19.

Market instabilities have risen since Donald J. Trump’s upset victory in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 8. After the real estate mogul won the election, Korean bond interest has been rising rapidly, breaking this year’s all-time high.

Bond yields expected to rise on inflation concerns
https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2016/11/123_218640.html

Bond yields are expected to rise further on the forecast of higher and faster inflation on the back of President-elect Donald Trump's pledge for fiscal stimulus, tax cuts and tightened immigration laws, analysts say.

Yields on government and corporate bonds have been rising toward record highs as global investors have been pulling their money out of their fixed-income portfolios on concerns that Trump's fiscal policy would not only increase U.S. debt but also bring forth a contractionary monetary policy to tame the expected inflation.

"The local yields on bonds are expected to continuously rise (due to the forecast of higher inflation), despite the central bank's commitment to market stabilization," said Peter Park, analyst at NH Investment & Securities.
