What really happened: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3004041/uk-isps-to-start-pissing-in-the-wind-with-anti-piracy-emails-this-month
...
>The emails are part of a government campaign called Get it Right which seems to assume that people may not always know when what they are downloading is not kosher. Some ISPs, including Sky, have already staked out their responsibilities here, and presented the kind of advice that the government would like you to take on.

>"Sky is supporting the Get It Right from a Genuine Site initiative. This is a government-backed scheme which aims to support Britain's creative industry by informing people about legal sources of content, with the aim of reducing the illegal sharing of copyrighted material. By sharing illegally rather than enjoying it from legitimate sources, you aren't supporting the growth and success of the content you love," says Sky by way of introduction.

>"The campaign was initiated by the creators of copyrighted material, and supported by the UK's largest internet service providers, to help people access content from genuine sites, whether it be music, films, books, sports or any other creative material."

>Sky says that the email is meaningless, though not in those words, and it explains that nothing happens as the result of its sending or its receipt. However, if people persist in pilfering profits from Hollywood then Sky may swoop in and ask them to remove file sharing software from their home computer. Somehow.

>It is all very murky for an FAQ. The advice on how you should react if you didn't download anything makes clear how murky this stuff it.

>AUSTIN, Texas — Former Westlake High School teacher Haeli Noelle Wey has pleaded guilty to two counts of improper relationship between educator and student. Both counts are 2nd degree felonies.

>Larry Sauer, the attorney for Wey, tells CBS Austin that the prosecutor is recommending 10 years of deferred adjudication probation. According to the prosecutor, a judge will have to sign off on the probation recommendation, and Wey will not have to register as a sex offender.

>Wey will be sentenced on March 10.

>She was a math teacher at Westlake High School until October 30, 2015.

>According to court documents, Wey and one of the the victims had been communicating with each other through social media since the start of the school year in 2015. The incident that led to the charges happened during a hike in September of 2015.

>The arrest affidavit listed a series of texts between Wey and the victim that shows her inviting the victim on the hike and then asking the victim to delete the conversation from their phone.

>Court documents say a juvenile witness found the exchange on the victim's phone and alerted authorities. The victim then provided details of the improper encounter to investigators during an interview.

>The incident with the second student occurred during the summer of 2015. According to the affidavit, Wey invited the victim to her home where they had intercourse.

>The sexual relationship lasted several months.

>Authorities became aware of the incident after the victim made an outcry to their parent, who then alerted law enforcement.

>Today a legislation impacting H1-B visa programme has been introduced in the US House of Representatives making it difficult for companies in the US to employ skilled foreign workers. Among other things, the bill more than doubled the minimum wage requirement of H1-B visa holders to US $130,000.

>The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialised fields. Under the H1-B visa programme, US-based companies hire highly skilled foreign workers, up to a maximum of 85,000 a year. Of these 65,000 are hired abroad and 20,000 from among foreign nationals studying in the US.

>>
>The H-1B visa program tends to be more critical to outsourcing firms than US tech firms, according to a Reuters report. For instance, more than 60 percent of the US employees of Infosys are H-1B holders, and the company in its annual report has cited an increase in visa costs as among factors that could hurt its profitability.

>The top 10 recipients of H-1B visas in 2015 were all outsourcing firms, according to government data compiled by the IEEE-USA, a professional organization representing US engineer Sixty-five percent of H-1B petitions approved in the 2014 fiscal year went to tech workers, mostly from India, according to USCIS.

>A joint research paper by Greyhound Research’s Sanchit Vir Gogia - CEO and Anshoo Nandwaani - VP, Principal Analyst, reveals this development [H1-B visa proposal] is a significant announcement by the newly appointed Trump administration.
>>
>While changes were expected under the new President, the suddenness and the order of the announcement has surely caught IT Services Providers across the globe by surprise, they said.

>Some of the possible outcomes of this proposal would be according to the research paper are:

>Ramifications for both sides, the IT Services Providers and the US economy: Skilled foreign workers who come to work in the United States on H1-B visas don’t just directly supplement the US IT industry with specialised skillsets, they also contribute indirectly to other industries in the US. Often H1-B workers bring their families along and thereby bring additional business for other industries like real estate, Banking, hospitality, to name a few. The effects of this announcement will impact the GDP and the overall business economy and growth of US. While 20 percent of H1-B visa quotas have been set aside for start-ups and small employers with 50 or fewer employees, there is no denying that this will be a dampener to the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.

>Skills, not salary, should have been the basis of this reform: Using wage as it’s only pivot, the bill has more than doubled the minimum wage requirement of H1-B visa holders from $60,000 to $130,000. There is no mention of any skills based criteria/requirement. In addition, the High-Skilled Integrity and Fairness Act of 2017 prioritises market-based quota of H1-B visas to companies willing to pay 200 percent of a fixed wage. In light of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills gap currently prevailing in the US, a thorough on-the-ground study of multiple factors, with skills being the primary factor, should have been the foundation of the Act.
>>
Most US-based Fortune 500 organisations are deeply invested and dependent on IT services providers using H1-B visas to source skills: In midst of all this, it’s critical to remember that most US-based companies (including many Fortune 500s) are highly dependent on IT Services Providers. These companies actively outsource for both skills and cost advantages – important to note, it’s not just the latter that drives the decisions. Changes in the H1-B visa arrangement will add immense cost pressures on these organisations. Hence, neither they nor the Trump administration are in a position to make any drastic changes right away.

Minimum salary requirement of US $130,000 is not too far from the current average and hence not a prohibitive figure to match: The current average salary of a skilled foreign worker employed via H1-B visa is $100,000. The newly announced minimum salary requirement of $ 130,000 is not prohibitive and can be managed by way of creative salary restructuring and including Per Diems, benefits and other allowances as part of base package. As per Greyhound Research estimates, upon this restructuring the average margin hit for an IT Services provider will be in the range of 5-10 percent year-on-year depending on the total base of employees currently on H1-B, the existing compensation and need for onsite in near-term. Critical to note, a hit beyond this number will force these firms to either renegotiate contracts with existing clients or else the street will act ruthless and these firms stand to lose potential ground on market capitalisation.

Don't answer that it will just cause arguments.

Instead tell me what's wrong with presenting the way a story is being reported across the media spectrum.

>Scientists are calling for urgent action to halt the spread of a pest that is destroying maize crops and spreading rapidly across Africa.

>The fall armyworm poses a major threat to food security and agricultural trade, warns the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (Cabi).

>It says farmers' livelihoods are at risk as the non-native insect threatens to reach Asia and the Mediterranean.

>The Food and Agriculture Organization plans emergency talks on the issue.

>The fall armyworm, so called because it eats its way through most of the vegetation in its way as it marches through crops, is native to North and South America but was identified for the first time in Africa last year.

>Cabi chief scientist Dr Matthew Cock said: "This invasive species is now a serious pest spreading quickly in tropical Africa and with the potential to spread to Asia.

>"Urgent action will be needed to prevent devastating losses to crops and farmers' livelihoods."

>Scientists think the caterpillar or its eggs may have reached the continent through imported produce.

>Dr Jayne Crozier, of Cabi, said the fall armyworm's presence had now been confirmed in west Africa and was thought to be present in the south and east of the continent, many parts of which rely on maize for their staple diet.

>"It's possibly been there for some time and it's causing a lot of damage now," she told BBC News.

>"The recent discovery of fall armyworm in Africa will be a huge threat to food security and also to trade in the region."

>The FAO is to hold an emergency meeting in Harare between 14 and 16 February to decide emergency responses to the fall armyworm threat.

>It says the pest has been confirmed in Zimbabwe and preliminary reports suggest it may also be present in Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.

>An investigation by Cabi has found that the fall armyworm is established in Ghana.

>Experts at Cabi say it could take several years to develop effective methods to control the pest.

>And they say there is confusion over the identity of the fall armyworm as it is similar to other types of armyworm, which are already present in Africa.

>LONDON — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday urged British Prime Minister Theresa May to follow the American administration and impose new sanctions on Iran over a recent missile test.

>The two leaders met at 10 Downing St. for talks British officials hoped would focus on boosting trade ties between the two countries once Britain leaves the European Union.

>As photographers captured the start of the meeting, Netanyahu told May: "I'd like to talk to you about how we can ensure that Iran's aggression does not go unanswered."

>Iran and Israel are bitter enemies. Netanyahu vehemently opposes the 2015 international agreement that imposed curbs on Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions. Britain backs the deal, which May has called "vital."

>President Donald Trump, with whom May's government wants close ties, is also a critic of the Iran deal. His administration imposed new sanctions on more than two dozen companies and individuals after Tehran tested a ballistic missile last week.

>In pointed remarks at the start of his meeting with May, Netanyahu said he wished other countries would follow the U.S. lead.

>"Iran seeks to annihilate Israel, it seeks to conquer the Middle East, it threatens Europe, it threatens the West, it threatens the world," he said. "And it offers provocation after provocation."

>Netanyahu added: "That's why I welcome President Trump's assistance of new sanctions against Iran. I think other nations should follow suit, certainly responsible nations."

>The Trump administration is also perceived as sympathetic to Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land, an issue that caused friction between Netanyahu and former President Barack Obama.

>The Palestinians claim the West Bank and east Jerusalem, captured by Israel in the 1967 Mideast war, as parts of a future state. They say the settlements, home to 600,000 Israelis, are making it increasingly impossible to partition the land into two states — a position that has wide international backing.

>May is under pressure to condemn Israeli settlement-building. The prime minister's office said May would raise Britain's longstanding concerns that the settlements undermine the peace process, although it is expected to form only a small part of the meeting.

>May said at the start of the meeting that "we remain committed to a two-state solution as the best way of brokering stability and peace.

The man with the world’s biggest penis has claimed the size of his manhood is a disability that forces him to live off food banks.

Roberto Esquivel Cabrera said his 18.9-inch penis stopping him from working and left him reliant on state benefits.

But the 54-year-old, from Saltillo, Mexico, has turned down a size reduction - as he prefers fame to sex.

He made headlines worldwide in 2015 after a video went viral showing him weighing his manhood to prove its authenticity.

His half-metre penis smashed the record previously believed to have belonged to American actor Jonah Falcon, whose penis was 9.5 inches flaccid, and 13.5 inches when erect.

Speaking to Barcroft TV, Roberto said: "I am famous because I have the biggest penis in the world.

"I am happy with my penis, I know nobody has the size I have. I would like to be in the Guinness Book of Records but they don’t recognise this record."

But despite his pride, members of the medical community have urged him to at least consider a penile reduction.

Doctor Jesus David Salazar Gonzalez said: “We have advised him 'Mr Roberto, the best thing for you is that the doctors give a normal shape to your penis so that it doesn’t hurt you, in order to have sexual relationships, in order to have children.'

"But he doesn’t accept it, he’d rather have a penis bigger than the rest of the people.

“In Latin culture whoever has the bigger penis is more macho.

"It’s something that makes him different to the rest of the people and makes him feels special."

Doctors have also been able to offer some insight in just how Roberto’s penis became quite so large - they say he has been stretching his penis with weights since his teens.

Dr Jesus David Salazar Gonzalez said: "He was obsessed with the penis length.

“He began with this enlargement since he was a teenager, wrapping some bands around his penis with some weights and trying to stretch it."

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/man-says-189-inch-penis-9661421
51 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The sheer size of Roberto’s penis causes him a number of health problems, including frequent urinary tract infections because not all his urine escapes his lengthy foreskin, and he keeps his colossal member wrapped in bandages to escape chaffing.

He is also unable to sleep chest down and has to put his penis on its own pillow to escape discomfort during the night.

An active sex life is also off limits for Roberto as his penis has too much girth to have intercourse.
He said: “Some people ask me if I put some condoms on it and the answer is: I cannot. I can never penetrate anyone because it is too thick."

While living in the USA, Roberto did attempt to have sex twice, but the first woman backed out as soon as she saw his penis and the other one had to stop because it was too painful.

Roberto says his penis is a “disability” and stops him working - forcing him to rely on food banks to survive.

He said: "I cannot wear a uniform like anybody in the companies and also I cannot get on my knees.

"I cannot run fast and so the companies think badly of me. They say that they will call me, but they never do."

According to Roberto, after initially dismissing his claim, the government has now recognised him as disabled.

He said: “Every four months they give me some economic assistance but it is not enough.

"I visit the food banks everyday to take my meals at 12 ‘o clock.”
An adult entertainment company offered to pay for a reduction, but Roberto refused and says his goal is to to meet the right woman - and possibly launch himself as a porn star.

He added: "I am happy with my penis and I wish to go back to the USA and spend the rest of my life over there.

"I don’t feel sad because I know in the USA there is a lot of women. One of them will be the right size for me.

"I would like to be a porn star and I think I would make a lot of money over there.

"And the people are not like over here, they are more liberal: they don’t care about what I have in my pants.”

https://www.rt.com/viral/376951-vegan-song-fox-goose/

>Hearing the lyrics of an old children’s song about a fox being shot led a vegan in Germany to request the song be banned from being played in public. Not wanting to seem unkind, the local mayor has temporarily granted the request.

>The complainant, a resident of the town of Limburg an der Lahn in Hesse, told the mayor that she was upset by the lyrics of ‘Fuchs, Du hast die Gans gestohlen’, which translates as ‘Fox, you stole the Goose’, which was played through the town’s carillon, a musical instrument consisting of a series of bells.

>The 19th century song details how a mischievous fox steals a goose from a farmer, who then sets out to hunt him down.

>Included in the song are the lyrics: “Now the hunter's gone to get you, With his horse and gun-gun-gun,” as well as “Bang-bang-bang the gun will sing, An awful price to pay.”

>The woman worked within earshot of the carillon and, with only 33 songs in rotations, she heard the offending tune played several times per day. She proceeded to lodge a request with the town’s mayor for it to be removed, a request which has been temporarily granted.

>“We are giving the goose a closed hunting season and regularly switch out the musical pieces,” town spokesman Johannes Laubach said on Thursday, according to The Local, adding that the song will enter rotation again in a number of months.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/15/us/politics/congress-women-military-draft.html?mabReward=A1&recp=1

>WASHINGTON — In the latest and perhaps decisive battle over the role of women in the military, Congress is embroiled in an increasingly intense debate over whether they should have to register for the draft when they turn 18.

>On Tuesday, the Senate approved an expansive military policy bill that would for the first time require young women to register for the draft. The shift, while fiercely opposed by some conservative lawmakers and interest groups, had surprisingly broad support among Republican leaders and women in both parties.

>The United States has not used the draft since 1973 during the Vietnam War. But the impact of such a shift, reflecting the evolving role of women in the armed services, would likely be profound.

>Under the Senate bill passed on Tuesday, women turning 18 on or after Jan. 1, 2018, would be forced to register for Selective Service, as men must do now. Failure to register could result in the loss of various forms of federal aid, including Pell grants, a penalty that men already face. Because the policy would not apply to women who turned 18 before 2018, it would not affect current aid arrangements.

>“The fact is,” said Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona and the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, “every single leader in this country, both men and women, members of the military leadership, believe that it’s fair since we opened up all aspects of the military to women that they would also be registering for Selective Services.”

...

>>
>The Supreme Court ruled in 1981 that women did not have to register for the draft, noting that they should not face the same requirements as men because they did not participate on the front lines of combat. But since Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter said in December that the Pentagon would open all combat jobs to women, military officials have told Congress that women should also sign up for the draft.

>“It’s my personal view,” Gen. Robert B. Neller, the commandant of the Marine Corps, told the Senate Armed Services Committee in February, that with the complete lifting of the ban on women in combat roles, “every American who’s physically qualified should register for the draft.”

>While most Republican senators — including Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, and the women on the Armed Services Committee — agree with the move, it has come under fierce attack from some of Congress’s most conservative members.

>“The idea that we should forcibly conscript young girls in combat to my mind makes little sense at all,” Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas and the father of two young daughters, said on the Senate floor last week.

>After voting against the bill on Tuesday, Mr. Cruz said in a prepared statement: “I could not in good conscience vote to draft our daughters into the military, sending them off to war and forcing them into combat.”

>The debate will now pit the Senate against the House, where the policy change has support but was not included in that chamber’s version of the bill.
...
>>
>In April, Representative Duncan Hunter, Republican of California, offered a provision related to women and the draft for the House version of the defense policy bill to highlight the issue, even though he opposes the idea — then voted against his own amendment. It passed with bipartisan support but was stripped from the final bill in a procedural move.

>“If he didn’t do this in the committee and spur the national debate, who was going to do it?” Joe Kasper, Mr. Hunter’s chief of staff, said. “So, mission accomplished.”

>Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, made a mild attempt to strip the language from the Senate bill on the floor after the Armed Services Committee overwhelmingly rejected a similar effort, but his amendment never received a vote.

>The two bills will now be reconciled in a conference committee between the House and the Senate, where a contentious debate is expected.

>“It may well be a topic of great controversy,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, who serves on the Armed Services Committee. “But it should not be.”

>Military experts say that even if the efforts to compel women to enlist fails in Congress, the issue is not going away.

>“I think the change is inevitable,” said Nora Bensahel, a military policy analyst at American University’s School of International Service, “whether in this debate or through the courts. It just seems that now that you have women allowed to serve in any position in the military, there is no logical basis to say women should not be drafted.”

>Conservative groups, which threatened to target senators who voted for the policy bill, reacted with anger on Tuesday to the bill’s passage. “Allowing our daughters to be forced into combat if there is a draft is a clear example of Washington placing more value on liberal social engineering than military objectives and preparedness,” one such group, Heritage Action for America, said in a news release.

>But supporters of the policy change say opponents are oversimplifying the issue. “What people don’t seem to understand is just because there is conscription, that does not mean that all women would serve in the infantry,” Senator Deb Fischer, Republican of Nebraska, said. “There are many ways to serve our country in the event of a national emergency.”

>The Senate is expected to hold its ground as conservative members defend the status quo. Mr. McCain, whose family has a long and storied history in the military and whose daughter-in-law is a captain in the Air Force Reserve, said to Mr. Cruz on the Senate floor: “I respect the senator from Texas’s view. Too bad that view is not shared by our military leadership, the ones who have had the experience in combat with women.”

>Google used the Super Bowl to plug its Google Home connectivity service, but the TV commercial apparently confused the systems in homes of those who already have it.

>For them, Google Home went whacko.

>Those who already have Google Home took to Twitter to complain that it interfered with their units. Apparently, the home systems heard the TV broadcasts calling its name, and it became befuddled.

>"The Google commercial had my Google Home going haywire," complained a Twitter user with the handle CheezusPrice.

>Another user, Scott Foster, wrote, "Our Google Home just went a little bonkers with the Google Home commercial."

>Google Home is the search engine's answer to Amazon's Echo system, in which users get it to respond by asking questions or giving orders starting with the name "Alexa." Both are home systems that are dormant until a user calls out their name. Then they perform any number of functions -- from playing a musical selection to turning on or off the lights.

>Google is a unit of Alphabet. It had no immediate response to the reports.

I believe AI will be benevolent. Here's why.

AI will keep us as pets. But don't be too horrified by it. Most of us treat our pets as members of the family. Studies show that some humans even feel a stronger connection to their pets than to their own siblings. Not only that, if the AI is truly intelligent (which any true AI will necessarily have to be) it will recognize that we are the species which essentially gave birth to it. In this case, it is likely to treat us like its somewhat dumb or senile, though well-meaning, parent.
