So, there's a chance that if you use youtube fairly regularly the arcane depths of their recommendation system will have given you this video (https://youtu.be/JN4ATDfCYmo).
Do any anons here have more like this?
In the meantime, I'll post some aesthetics of my own

The failed SPSF (Southern Pacific-Sante Fe or "Shouldn't Paint So Fast") merger in the mid-1980s had a very 80s paint scheme. It was nicknamed Kodachrome.

Such a simpler time

>tfw the Warriors actually had to clean up the NY rails to make it presentable on tv
Back in the 1980s, Sydney's railway network was operated by the State Rail Authority. The commercials they had back then were creepy and looked almost dystopian, with dark environments filled with smoke, and machines silhouetted against twilight. The trains also sported the Candy livery, which featured reds, oranges, and chrome. It couldn't get more 80s than that, in my opinion.

The Tangara was kind of a big deal at the time.

Do switchers pull passenger trains in Europe?
>>1078343
thats not a switcher, its a regular all-purpose branchline loco, the V 100 (West). They've been used both for passenger and freight services extensively.
>>1075156
btw this particular loco has been shipped to Turkey in 1985
Hmm, yeah I like this thread.
I'll be lurking, please keep posting if possible my dudes.
Bringing this thread back!

How long did that take, having to actually shut down rail lines and position trains like that rather than having computers do half the work?

which station is that?

Woohoo
Woohoo
Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husbands a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake's car
Her yellow SUV, is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985
Woohoo
(1985)
Woohoo
She's seen all the classics
She knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink
Even Saint Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran
Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who's the other guy singing in Van Halen
When did reality become T.V.
What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows
(On the radio was)
Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied

Woohoo
She hates time make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this
Stop! Stop! Stop!
And bring back
Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied

They tell her that she's uncool

It wouldn't have taken long. They already had some lines with bidirectional signalling*, and there were times of day with long gaps between scheduled trains (such as early on Sunday mornings) so it would not have been very difficult.
But I think the brief scene 28 seconds in was done with film editing - there may even have been computers involved.

I love this blue DB livery so much, though the red looks good.
>>1080176
Was that police locomotive painted like that specifically for the commercial? I'm almost certain I've seen pictures of it before but I can't imagine what a police locomotive would be used for besides a gag in a commercial.
>>1081881
Aren't they still using those engines in Russia?
(And does the Russian rail system still have the old hammer and sickle on all their rolling stock?)

Used to be left in sidings where there were graffiti and vandal attacks

Yes.

There's no bridge inside the train shed, and there's a freight passing line in the center, of BTM.
It's York.

MBTA's still running those F40PH's today, right?
>>1086621
Yes. Those coaches are still running as well.

I've always found the "ghetto grilles" really funny looking.

Not only in russia. And most of the soviet symbols have been removed. Except for maybe some odball switchers in small cities. The paint scheme is mostly the same though.
>>1088605
So much nicer of a locomotive
I know these predate the time period but beauties nonetheless
bus from the 60s, still used in the 80s though

The long distance (Green Line) Routemasters, never seen one but the standard RM are still working in central London on, I think, two routes.
>>1093663
Yes, the 9 and 15 still have a few refurbished AEC Routemasters in operation. However, they don't have the original engines so you don't get the full original experience, they sound like modern buses instead of the old "chug chug chug" engine sound.
>>1074895
Is that Woking?
Rio de Janeiro
I don't know if this counts as 80s (I'm a west coaster and I read these were contemporary in the 80s), but I really love the aesthetics of the whole train. AEM-7 looks good with those Amfleet cars

That's because the sides are ribbed, for your pleasure...
Nothing is more 80s AESTHETIC than this Super 8 film of riding the tram through 1986 Bielefeld.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkZbD1Ztrco
You can see some construction work going on for the Stadtbahn tunnels of today. This was one of the last few years in which the trams ran overground all the time.

The toilet paper and turds on the line. Pure aesthetics
Now HERE's an a e s t h e t i c piece of 80's railfan nostalgia: a run-through of the old MBTA Orange Line Elevated right before it was taken down in 1987.
https://youtu.be/_QXoK2weC-g
>>1086621
That's actually one of the early -2C's, you can tell by the longer frame. And yeah, they're still in service, although the Messerschmitt Bolkow Blohm coaches (the 1st, 2nd, and 4th of that consist, with the taller windows) have been pulled from service over the past couple years.
The straight screamer F40PH's that the MBTA had are all mothballed now, though.
>>1100130
It's 80's hardware, but the livery is wrong. The correct one was even more a e s t h e t i c, desu
>>1104124
The old livery looks newer than the new one loll
This thread is kinda depressing, but interesting.
>>1104453
80's flat a e s t h e t i c s or late 90's techno-modern. Both are so GOAT that it's hard to choose between them.
It's like being forced to choose between 80's TGV, Pendolino, and ICE trainsets and the N500, the Rapi:T, and the BR Class 332.
>>1104616
You can remove the class 332 off that list immediately
>>1104804
The 332 in the original, unmolested Heathrow Express colors is maximum late 90's /comfy/, lad.
Early privatization liveries and classes of the late 90's and early 00's, in general, will come to be seen as a "bronze age" of sorts for British Rail (if the 20's-40's are the golden age and the classic diesel years of the 50's-70's are a sort of silver age). At the very least, it's the closest that any western railway has ever come to the sheer abundance of awesome different classes and liveries seen on the Japanese narrow gauge lines.
