I gotta vent, guys.

>spotted some roofing nails on the road as I was riding
>decided to turn around (nobody was around me at the time) to pick them up
>I was riding slow in the left lane on the wide shoulder looking for the nails
>cyclist up ahead is riding towards me now since I'm in the oncoming lane
>some cars are driving by so I decide to step off the road to let the cyclist pass
>I'm standing still on the side of the road off my bike and the cyclist is still riding
>the guy begins yelling to me before he's even up to me that I should "Be on the other side of the road!"
>for some reason he swings wide off the shoulder and into the lane
>doesn't slow down, doesn't look behind him
>he's only looking at me and yelling
>right at the time he swings wide into the lane, a car passes him
>the car narrowly misses him and has to swing wide
>that car then nearly hits another car head on
>meanwhile I'm standing off the road in the grass stationary
>the other cyclist loses his mind after this
>he skids to a stop and comes up to me ready to get into a fight
>got into a confrontation and managed to avoid having to fight this guy but he was fucking livid
>he claims that if an accident occurred, he could take me to court and I would be liable.

Is this true? Could I actually be liable for a moving collision if I'm standing off the road? Yes, I had been riding in the wrong lane but I stepped off a long time before the guy passed me.

>Freaking out on somebody for standing on the side of the road

You're being weird and insecure about this. Dude was a proper cunt, and is going to get the shit kicked out of him some day soon if that's really the way he acts with people.

If you saw a hobo who pulled over the side of the street pretending to pick something up so he could jump you when you ride by you'd be pissed too.
>>
>>1055269
The pissy fuck probably waited all day to get home & rage about his miserable life then decided to release on you, and why? Because you were clearing the way?

Hook him in the fuckin' gabber.

Would it be feasible to charter an E-unit & some coaches to go full speed on an upgraded 100mph+ Amtrak route?

you're better off charting your own amtrak train as they will cover the insurance cost

your picture is curious though since Iowa Pacific operates the Hooiser State for Amtrak
>>
>>1055014
The insurance is what's stupidly expensive about running your shit on Amtrak. I'm not sure that you can run an extra train with Amtrak, though. That comes down to agreements that they have with the owning railroad and you'd probably be better off negotiating that with them individually.

Now, if you own a passenger car you can tack it onto Amtrak for like $.60 a mile or something cheap like that. You can find the rate tucked away somewhere on the site. The problem is you need like a $1 million insurance policy and some place to store your car. The trick to cheap storage though is finding some small industry that you'd pay a small fee to store it on. Then you'd have to pay to get it spotted and pulled, which isn't all that cheap. Easily $1k each time.
>>
>>1055192
My bad, it's like $2.20 a mile which isn't cheap, but consider a 1k mile trip will only cost you $2k and that's actually pretty cheap.

But like I said, switching and storage is expensive.

How big of bird wings would be needed to get a person off the ground?

Would we even have enough energy to lift ourselves? Remember that birds are super light weight and people aren't.

I remember reading somewhere that you need a 20m wingspan

The great country of 4chan houses many independently-operated regions. To the east, there's the /a/-region, to the south the /b/-region, and many others.

What does /n/ look like? How's the government? City design? Demographics? Geography? Or dare I say.... the transportation systems?

Literally 0 roads as cars are not allowed. Everything is transported by tram and everyone has a state-issued bike.

The city is actually a giant train roaming the planet literal Snowpiercer style, but with the actual climate- and season matching. Residents travel between the thousands of train cars through a German hanging monorail line hanging off of the side of the entirety of the train.

Apartment cars, farm cars (biomes and all that), hospital cars, restaurant cars, everything is there. The council resides and governs from a blimp tethered to the top of the train, separated from the people.
When a councilman dies, a citizen is elected and sent to the blimp. This is the only time the blimp is lowered. The train does not travel through tunnels, but rather has shutters to simulate night time for the citizens inside.

Is it practical to buy a Mountain Bike, and swap out the wheels ( with street tires on them so owning 2 sets total) when I want to ride a paved trail?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1053991
yes
>>
>>1053991

If you use the mtb to ride actual mtb trails then yes. Unless your hubs are the same you might have to adjust your brake calipers and/or rear derailleur slightly when you switch wheels, which isn't too bad.

People will tell you "huurrr it's not geared high enough" but even 36x11 is fine for inner-city usage.
>>
>>1053998
Thanks, i did not think about breaks....I hate dealing with them honestly...but it couldn't hurt to get better.

Hi guys,

The city where I work recently decided to make me pay to park in front of my office. There's free parking a 10 min walk away, but I was thinking of getting a step scooter to go faster.

Anyone got any recommendations/good brands? Things to look for?

It would have to be available in Europe, but I can look that up myself.

Only the small tractors are the funicular, they push cars of an interurban tram that continue on their own on flatland sections.

What's your favorite narrow gauge railroad and why?
Oahu Railway & Land company here, largest narrow gauge class one common carrier in the USA, and only one with a double track mainline, ABS signaling system, and electrically operated turntable.

This one ran from Umzinto to Donnybrook. They shut it down in 1987 after a bunch of track washed out. Most of the rail has been moved to Wales for their narrow gauge line.

Definitely my favourite one. Throughout the Natal there are a lot of narrow gauge lines because of the sugar plantations and so on.

I will start an internship in a consulting company in a couple of weeks and I need to dress myself somewhat formally.
The company is very close to my apartment and I want to ride there with my work clothes and not have to change them once I get there, since I don't think they have a shower or a changing room.
If I wear formal shoes on the bike, not only will it be very uncomfortable, but I'll also ruin and scratch them all the time.

Is there any cycling shoe that can sufficiently pass off as formal shoes? I've been looking for weeks but I can't find anything. What do ge/n/tlemen wear to go to work? Or do you just say fuck it and change clothes when you get there?

TL;DR: are there any cycling shoes that can pass off as formal shoes?

Jesus Christ. I love cycling more than anything, but even I'm not thick headed to the point I'd ride a fucking road bike to a formal work event.

Either take a bike with flat bars so you don't have to worry about some bs with click clack Road shoes, or take the fucking bus or taxi.

How about these leather Dromartis OP?

I have a pair, they're pretty, but a bit more demanding than other cycling shoes in that they don't wick moisture except through the vent holes, but they're not much good at retaining warmth either - this means that you must choose socks carefully to avoid sweaty feet on hot days, and on cold days you're better off with a different pair of shoes if you're going to be on the bike for an extended length of time. You should also be aware that they run narrow like a lot of Euro brands.

You might also look at Specialized Sub-6 shoes that are made with faux leather but are still quite tasteful.

Why the fuck is this pile of shit $3000?
Its just a mini bike frame with a $100 electric motor.
Seriously why?
For 3k i can buy a motorcycle and have 2k left over and get 100mpg. With the ability to go over 25mph and have a ranger longer than 25 miles.

Have you read the comments on any news story involving cyclists? Have you heard any talk radio discussion of cyclists?

The bigger question is why do motorists whom 90% or more are scofflaws, hate a vehicle 1/20th their weight breaking the same laws?
