I will be changing my mountain bike's tires for some street tires. Pic related

It uses 26x2'' tires. Is it ok to use slightly larger tires on the same wheels? Any tire suggestions?

/n/ is for bicycles

I agree that /n/ is for bicycles, but since this is the slowest board on earth there's no need to start new threads for questions that have a place of their own in the BQG thread.
Polite sage, please redirect question and delete.

Directly from downtown Denver to DIA, 23 miles, and it's not light rail. (It's classed as a regular railroad since it can go 79 mph, the same as Amtrak.) There's four light rail lines scheduled to open in the next year.

Who is going to use this? Flyover country is cager country, unless you can make it from your home to the downtown terminal without getting arrested for the crime of not getting around town in your single-occupancy vehicle, that thing is going to be exclusively used by business travelers who have reasons to go to denver, which amounts to I imagine about twelve people a week.

Can someone explain me why you should get a single speeder?

I can understand the argument that the power you put into the pedals, has only about 5 % energy loss to the final movement of the wheel.
But derailleur bikes have ALMOST the same, only huge difference is at cheap hub gears.

So i tought, well maybe because they are minimalistic, prob. they are cheaper? Well as i see most of them are still sold for the same price as a bike with a good derailleur gear. WTF?

Tell me why people buy this?

Because they are fun to ride and work on. They're simple and low maintenance. They're usually, not always, cheaper to build up for comparable quality components. Did I mention that they are just fun?

Because your chain doesn't slap around when you jump curbs, and because you can throw it on the ground on the drivetrain side without worrying about a bent RD. Among a lot of other things.

What gear ratio do you usually ride in on flats? I usually ride in 48-11 on flats. Also my bike is a hybrid and my longest ride on it is around 200km. My average speed on long rides is mid teens mph/mid twenties kph and on short rides (i.e. under 90km) is high teens mph/high twenties-30 kph. Post your stats, let's see how we compare.

my single speed has a 46-16 ratio, I find it suitable everywhere except the mountains.

flatland speed usually averages about 26 km/h.. pretty slow

Have any of you tried removing your chain as a theft deterrent when leaving your bike unattended for a longer period of time? It seems like it'd be a great way to prevent theft, and relatively easy to do if you have a quick-release link.

You could then put the chain in a ziploc bag or something.

>>
>>954476
Bad idea. You're not supposed to re-use master links more than a few times (and some styles you're not even supposed to re-use once).
If you want something more than just a lock, try removing the saddle, or using some really lightweight lock to wrap through the spokes or something (something like this; I use one to lock my panniers to my rack http://www.evo.com/locks/dakine-micro-lock.aspx )
>>
Yeah the thief will totally not steal your bike if it doesn't have a $15 chain on it. Totally.
>>
At least here thieves don't usually ride the bikes they steal. They grab the bike and put it in a van that is waiting somewhere and off they are.

I doubt most of them would even notice there isn't a chain on the bike.

I store my bikes in indoors so that they're comfy when not being used. It's a well proven fact that bikes that get to rest in comfy, warm, dry indoors are faster than bikes that are neglected by their owners and left outside.

If I for some reason need to leave my bike outside I bring my trusty old bike that isn't worth much.

I use a mechanically perfect bike, but it looks crappy, old and dirty. Moroccans dont have a keen eye for that kind of stuff. I lock it with a pic related type of lock, which just locks the rear wheel. So if someone wants to carry it away and put it in a car/van they can, but they never do.

A jokester did steal my handlebar rubbers recently so now im just holding on to iron handle bars. Makes it look even more crappy I guess so thats okay
