I have no idea what genre (pic related) is other than jazz + trad. japanese music.
Do you guys know of albums that are equally good?
Through the looking glass by Midori Takeda and Ecophony Gaia by Geinoh Yamashirogumi are also nice but different.
Kakashi

Utaka no Hibi

Through the looking glass

Ecophony Gaia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilx-wtoPsLg
Also good, but again very different, more westerny jazzy I guess:
And somewhat less interesting.
Ryo Fukui - Scenery 1976

Takuya Kuroda - Rising Son - Zigzagger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spH_3GV6YsY

Takeshi Terauchi And Bunnys - Seichô Takeuchi Bushi (not jazz)

I was just listening to Mariah last night! Shimizu's stuff is so interesting. I just wish Kakashi was cheap(er) on vinyl...
>>75200320
I know right, do you have other Shimizu albums to recommend?
This is a great album that's all over the place genre wise. Made by a guy from Fishmans
>>75200721
The only other one I have of his is Music for Commercials; I found it at a random music store in Japan. I haven't really ran into other stuff that sounds like Shimizu, sadly. The most eclectic Japanese stuff I've found besides him would be
-Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana by Sheena Ringo and
-all of the albums by Flipper's Guitar (although Colour Me Pop is a great way to get into them).
>>75199765
meh, was looking for jazzy stuff
the main criteria was actually just exotic sounds, japanese instruments and singing, not just japanese songs
>>75200904
>I haven't really ran into other stuff that sounds like Shimizu, sadly.
There's plenty
Chakra, After Dinner, Killing Time, Unita Minima, Arepos, Wha-Ha-Ha, Kiyohiko Semba/Haniwa, etc.
You're going to want to start here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x79kuGdI3WQ
but the other stuff is great too

>Made by a guy from Fishmans
No?
WowwwWow some DEEP CUTS right here!! we never have threads about these JAPANESE (non-J-pop of course fuck that gay shit) ARTISTS. What you have linked is far superior to the J-pop drivel that im sure all weeaboos listen to, lets instead circle jerk over the same 8 artists in every thread
>>75200825
Is it a mashup album or something?
>>75200825
>Made by a guy from Fishmans
wat
>>75201127
its real psychedelic
>>75201117
Thanks anon, not sure if sarcastic but I'll accept that as a compliment.
I was actually worried that the albums I posted were a little entry level :x
>>75201072
Sound interesting, has a childish flavor to it with the girl singing in the first song, and second also I guess
>>75201166
Wiki says it's "Shibuya-kei".
Whatever that is, the best way to find out is just to listen more I guess.
>>75201072
forgot Hotra Picarra
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eIH3m5EpE4
More Better Days is pretty much a sampler for this stuff.
Disc 1 is the Japanese traditional music / electronic hybrid, Disc 2 is the jazz fusion stuff.
>>75200825
...are you confusing Fishmans with Flipper's Guitar?
>>75201214
how the fuck are you not familiar with shibuya kei?
>>75201332
>twee female vocalist
immediately closed the tab
Yoshiko Sai is cool

k, I can't make you not retarded

My waifu
>>75199675
Why did youtube decide to rec this to so many people
>>75201392
why the fuck is that so suprising?
>>75199765
listen to actual good jap folk

it recommends based on what the user watch, it's a positive feedback loop
good music will eventually rise to the top, so will catchy titles and good looking thumbnails
like cats on red
>>75201609
thanks
>>75201072
Nice! Thank you for the recs.
Dunno what genre is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK5s7Sbv7hU
but I like it a lot, looking forward to some recs.
can you folks recommend some good fusion stuff? yeah I already know Casiopea
>>75202625
Kazumi Watanabe - Kylyn
J-Pop is good too. Shouldn't be so close-minded desu
>>75199675
literally youtube rec core
>>75202625
T-Square/The Square, Shakatak
That's really the light end of Weather Channel fusion though. Cool people listen to Mahavishnu Orchestra.
>>75202756
I know, see:
>>75201177
Not to continue beating the dead horse but how did that cat album end up in everyone's youtube queue like Plantasia did?
>>75204957
If something gets a lot of traffic over a short span of time it gets automatically added to more people's recommendations.
Hosono's "watering a flower" thing got the same treatment, and Ryo Fukui and Taeko Onuki and whatever else
>>75205002
Also how did I forget Ryo Fukui, Scenery is absolutely amazing. Any other Japanese jazz piano you can recommend?
>>75205193
whoops wrong quote, but you get the idea
>>75205048
I dunno, Yuji Takahashi is great but maybe not what you're looking for. Kazuto Shimizu is also great but he doesn't have a lot of solo material.
>>75205193
the "good music will eventually rise to the top" part really isn't true though
>>75205293
I meant that as in, music that people liked after they clicked on it will continue to circulate
youtube measures watchtime and stuff, and what path you take through the video's
but you're right, it's actually attractive titles and thumbnails are are key to succes
anime titties, japanese characters, sentences as titles preferably out of context
example: "by the way, I never asked how your love life was"
and cats on red, very signalling color, recognizable figure but somewhat stylized and weird
faces of people, mouths and eyes open wide means extra views from children/teenagers
screaming text, this is already beyond music and more just clickbaity stuff
Uchuu Konbini was a great little band that only made 1-2 albums and 1-2 EPs before disbanding.

lmfao
