Hey /mu/, I need some help.

I agreed to play guitar with a play going on at my local tea shop, and I'm playing with musicians that are much, much better than me. The style of music they're playing is Celtic-sounding, and other than a select few songs, I have very little experience with playing Celtic music. Also, it's going to be mostly improvisational.

I need some good Celtic-esque guitar songs to pick up on the style. Any suggestions?
>>
OP here, the only songs I know that are Celtic sounding are a Percy Grainger song, which being a march would be difficult to improvise over, and this song

Yes, thank you guys.

Anything along the lines of good songs to pick up lead from? Or at least, what modes/scales are used in Celtic music?

Dropkick Murphys :^)

these are some of the ones I used to play live while ago, they're pretty basic but they're fun to play. As for modes etc I have no idea, sorry

I've been listening to the Dubliners for years, I only ever tried to learn "Rocky Road to Dublin".

That song is literally impossible to play and sing at the same time. Hell it's nearly impossible to just sing in the first place.

Thanks m8

m8 it's fairly easy to play and sing, it's basically just Dm and C, don't focus on tiny details, play it the way you'd play it around a bonfire, just strum Dm and C pretty fast and you're set

takes a lot of breath to sing it though desu
>>
>>60186802
Where's the challenge in that? I always tried to play the melody and sing at the same time.
>>
>>60186832
no challenge at all, but if you don't have much time to prepare for the live show you should keep it safe desu, you'll have your time to shine in the eventual solos
>>
>>60186910
That's fair. I'll get on the Dubliners songs rn.

I'm just lucky I'm so ridiculously outclassed that I won't even have to worry about doing lead work, probably.
>>
>>60186941
best of luck m8
>>
>>60187003
Thanks m8. I'm gonna need it. They're studio musicians and I want to eventually be able to do that so I'm hoping all goes well.

Also calling out for any fingerpicking songs like the one posted here?>>60185860

Anyone?

Not sure if it counts, but Óró 'sé do bheatha 'bhaile is like 3 chords.
>>
>>60187900
I hadn't heard this one before.

Thanks.
>>
>>60188770
How will that help?

Explain pls.
>>
>>60188804
It's open D tuning, a lot of Celtic and Irish music uses it / is in D major and you can easily get a celtic sound after messing around in it for a couple of minutes.
>>
>>60188895
Alright, cool. Thanks, anon. Any songs in particular?
>>
>>60188895
>>60188987
Also on an unrelated note, being in open d would make it a good blues tuning, I'm assuming?
>>
>>60189056
Yes. Using a slide in that tuning is GOAT, in fact
