What are the most middling, mediocre albums of this year? Pic related.
>>
>>60178358
Pic related is as forgettable and soulless as it gets, i don't even remember a single thing on the album
>>
>>60178381
not even the soulless, hilarious female voice?
>>
>>60178358
I really really really wanted to like this but it is so bland and flavourless
They are one of my favourite bands
>>
>>60178358
Currents and PBMTGR are both top 5 of the year, easily. Anyone who feels otherwise has no respect for pop music.

Agreed on Carrie & Lowell and DS2 though.
>>
>>60178407
>Anyone who feels otherwise has no respect for pop music.
you mean derivative, boring, uninspired music
>>
>>60178414
I don't speak buzzword, in english pls?
>>
>>60178407
Pet Sounds is one of my favorite albums and those albums are shite

I guess i just have no respect for pop music :/

>>60178385
no
>>
>>60178381
>>60178389
What's with all the new prog hate on this board?
Are you tryhard contrarians or just le wrong generation faggots?
>>
>>60178420
they're both albums that bring nothing new to the table
they're both vapid affairs with nothing musically interesting in them
in short the only people who like those albums are people who don't listen to a lot of music
>>
this
>>
>>60178414
>>60178437
Lmao I bet you unironically think Liturgy is anything but complete shit
>>
I only liked one album from that chart (Viet Cong) but instead of just bitching please enlighten us with your favourite albums.
>>
>>60178445
explain how they are complete shit
>>
>>60178358
Barter 6 is the only good album in that pic (C&L is decent too tho)

>>60178381
agreed
>>
>>60178428
Pet Sounds transcends pop music. Pet Sounds is an immortal release that should never be attached to any genre label.

>>60178437
>they're both albums that bring nothing new to the table

You're problem is that you clearly only care about something "new".

Execution >>> Originality. Currents is basically the perfect pop record and PBMTGR is everything i want out of a Panda Bear release. It's more consistent than Person Pitch and brings out all the best qualities of the production of the last 2 AnCo records into these grooves that i could listen to for hours.
>>
>>60178381
>>60178385
>tfw Steven Wilson is not hip enough for pitchfork drones and not weird and experimental enough for wannabe patricians

Being a prog fan is suffering.
>>
>>60178484
or maybe he just isn't good
>>
>>60178443
I hate hate hate hate this album cover art. It looks like an advertisement for duty free perfume in an airport.
>>
>>60178482
>Currents is basically the perfect pop record
It isn't at all, it's cheesy and completely out of date with current styles.
>PBMTGR is everything i want out of a Panda Bear release.
So more of hte same, with nothing interesting.

Tell me your background in music please, and tell me some artists who are remembered NOT for being original, but for being good executors of derivative styles. Go ahead.
>>
>>60178465
>thinks Barter 6 is good and Steven Wilson is boring

You are a special kind of cancer

>>60178491
What are some good new prog musicians then ?
>inb4 none
>>
>>60178497
it fits the music: bland as hell
>>
>>60178436
ignoring the fact that you didn't use nothing but buzzwords, liking prog doesn't mean i like every fucking shit album in the genre

fuck you, newfag

>>60178484
>pitchfork drones
i don't read pitchfork, much less care about the inflated scores they give
>wannabe patricians
i don't call myself a patrician and everyone who does is an insecure faggot

>>60178482
>Pet Sounds transcends pop music. Pet Sounds is an immortal release that should never be attached to any genre label.

i actually do agree with that but if you have to call it anything, it's baroque pop and as such i see no reason to listen to Diver 5 more times when i could just listen to pet sounds again

>>60178381
Great album.
>>60178389
Average album.

Both records are so similar too. For some reason, just about everything i've heard from Riverside has given me just about no reason to return to it despite nearly everything sounding good on the first listen. They're basically the store-brand version of Porcupine Tree.

>>60178510
>It isn't at all, it's cheesy and completely out of date with current styles.

It has just the right amount of cheese (only track that's pushing it is Past Life) and fuck your current styles.

>So more of hte same, with nothing interesting.

The beats are interesting. I could listen to tracks like Mr Noah, Crosswords and Come To Your Senses in an endless loop for hours. Not the only album in this style that i've felt this way about either, pic related.

>Tell me your background in music please, and tell me some artists who are remembered NOT for being original, but for being good executors of derivative styles. Go ahead.

My background is fuck u fagit Tbh fa/\/\ :^)
>>
>>60178515
>implying Young Thug isn't miles better than Steven Wilson

Vibe on, my fellow redditor!
>>
>>60178358
That new Lana Del Rey album was pretty underwhelming tbqh
>>
>>60178557
That doesn't really explain why they are complete shit.
Why are the horns awful?
The vocals makes sense but it's a taste issue really.
The production really isn't that shit, it's just a small issue that people latch onto in order to try and critique the whole album. It's like how people magnify the political aspects of TPAB in order to try and dismiss it.
>>60178568
>My background is fuck u fagit Tbh fa/\/\ :^)
So you can't name a single artist from the past who was remembered for not being innovative?
>>
>>60178358
Deerhunter - Fading Frontier. Completely mediocre
>>
>>60178585
I don't really care who was remembered for what. My opinions are the only ones who matter anyway.

>>
>>60178602
You do realize then that your statement:

What kind of prog do you like then?
Are you one of those stubborn people who thinks new prog can't be good?
>>
>>60178358
The hype surrounding In Colour is most puzzling to me. Of course it's basically Burial, but in terms of mainstream success, it's essentially what James Blake was doing 5 years ago, which still seemed fresher than this album
>>
>>60178635
Then name an artist from the past that was a great executor of derivative styles, and was well-remembered as a result.
>>
>>60178546
Steven Wilson > Brian Wilson tbqfh
>>
>>60178661
I don't need to though.
>>
>>60178672
Then you acknowledge there is no support for your statement.
>>
>>60178585
>Why are the horns awful?
If you think they sound remotely good you need new ears
>>
>>60178681
No, there is. Because i said so.
>>
>>60178624
I'd expect a prog fan such as yourself to realize that Thugger is the Robert Fripp our generation. e is not just another manufactured rap star, he is a complete artist. He is not someone that is being controlled by a record label. Thugger is singlehandedly one of the most innovative and unique artists of this decade.

He is a melodic genius, his beats are experimental, innovative, unique, he isn't afraid to experiment, he is constantly evolving and changing his style. Young Thug, from the beginning, has always pushed boundaries and has continued to make progressive music that others could only hope to imitate.

His voice is an instrument. He wants you to look beyond just the lyrics. They are there just to complement the music, they are an application of the voice as an instrument rather than a medium for verbal communication and storytelling. His voice and his sounds are something that no one else is doing. Young Thug obviously isn't a Kendrick/Drake type of rapper with outstanding rapping ability but he still manages to make better music than them.

His mixtape, Barter 6, is an extremely introspective and personal record. It allows you to better understand the perspective and emotions of Jeffrey Lamar Williams. The mixtape has become a bridge for white youth to enjoy the art of the black inner city and empathize with the likes of Thugger and that is what is so wonderful about art. We are able to see who he really is and understand him. The introductory interview at The Fader Ford shows that he is a surprisingly soft-spoken young man and it gives you all the more reason to care about him.

There was no Young Thug before Young Thug. He is not emulating anyone, he isn't trying to be anyone. He has no influences. When Lifestyle came out of nowhere, everyone loved it because nothing sounded like it

He has accomplished so much at such a young age, I can't imagine what his music is going to sound in 5 years.

Also, stop pulling "le memerap" card, it's cringey.

Mac Demarco - Another One
Mac Demarco sucks in general desu
>>
>>60178381
pretty much, and this is coming from someone who enjoys some porcupine tree and insurgentes

PBMTGR was awful
>>
>>60178649
>Are you one of those stubborn people who thinks new prog can't be good?
nah, i don't give a shit when it's made, lad
>what kind of prog do you like
prog metal tends to be really good when it goes that really weird way, stuff like Dodheimsgard (who just released an album this year), Sigh, Ved Buens Ende and even Diablo Swing Orchestra is pretty damn good

>>60178667
triggered tbqhwyf

>>60178689
I quite like them.
Is it the timbre you don't like? Timbre is a pretty lame concern. The overall palate is diverse enough that they never get too on-edge IMO.
I guess I can understand what you mean though. Agree to disagree.

for real though, his music is great and CIty is a 9/10, one of, if not THE best vocal performance in metal

not much tbqh
Arcturus was pretty damn good though

>>
>>60178872
See no one really can believe that you can support your opinion though. For all we know you IRL just legitimately can't think of a good way to defend yourself, and you're saying this just as a defense mechanism.

It's very clear that either
A) You have no support for your opinion, and you're trying to weasel out.
B) You have very little or flimsy support for your opinion, and so you don't want to continue the conversation.

Either is fine, just come clean.

If I asked Bernie Sanders how he's going to pay for his policies and he says "Well none of the other candidates are doing that!" that doesn't mean that Bernie Sanders is now legitimate, it means that he's trying to avoid the question.

How the hell can you think Coal is better than the new album?

The songwriting is much more interesting and memorable, especially in the second half.
