Can we get a New Wave/Synthpop appreciation thread going?
what's your personal favorite album of the genre?
This is really great and doesn't get the praise it deserves because it's compared to Talk Talk's discography and not the New Wave and Synthpop genre.
There's lots of fun to be had with Oingo Boingo, though they're not that heavy on synths
Man, Boingo could have been so great if it had just kept with the dark creepy atmosphere of Insanity and Mery, not to mention that awesome bonus track, unfortunately that album never clicked with me as a whole.
Ben Orr this left his corvette trailer in my neighbors yard back in the 80s and it only got removed last year. Pretty cool. Real rock and roll memorabilia.
When I was young, the only pornography to be had was an old box of magazines my dad's buddy left behind when he left.
It seemed like there was always one pictorial in every 80s mag with a trashy new wave girl - especially in Penthouse
Those were always my favorite.
>also, that pictorial with Grace Jones....HNNNGH
You got a lastfm?
I came here to post this. Missing Persons are god tier synthpop. But hell, they all came out from Frank Zappa's band.
>Same guy that saw Godflesh/Skinny Puppy from that thread the other night.
Talk about waifu
yeah, but I haven't scrobbled in years, I just sometimes use it as way to contact other /mu/tants: http://www.last.fm/user/FredBanana
I din't know that about Missing Persons, thats cool as hell - even though I fucking hate listening to Zappa I do respect him
New wave was thick with hot chicks
Thompson Twins - Love On Your Side
Blancmange - Living On The Ceiling
Age of Chance - Kiss
The Beloved - Hello
>tfw new wave was 30 plus years ago
Ain't gonna lie, I'd still hit it
WHOA OH OH OHO OH OH
>I only feel a little bad that this will be in your head all afternoon
Reach the Beach is a good album.
I have to go there:
>Got rained out at work so now I'm home posting New Wave on /mu/
>meet a girl like /mu/
>tfw so far away
Not posting this fucking old house classic from the Beloved, I was probably around 7yo when this released.
tl;dr I like you anon
First time I heard The Beloved was on a 1980's compilation tape, that was back when Blackbox - Ride on Time was number 1 and Starlights - Numero Uno was another popular house tune at the time etc
Laurie Andersons - Big Science is a great post-punk new-wave album, very experimental and artsy.
She was married to Lou Reed when he died
Drums and bagpipes
Synthpop thread, nice.
If I had to choose only one album from the genre this would be it. Or Depeche Mode's 101. Or New Order's Substance. Whatever. I love Rio as well.
