What is some good instrumental study/reading music that isn't your predictable Mozart or something overly distracting like bop jazz?

I recently read a study that found listening to mellow music while studying increases your concentration by decreasing anxiety.

Just go to a library and study in silence. If you really don't want silence then go to a coffee shop.

it might be maria lafita

OP, go in the archive and look up eskimeaux, download their self titled EP. i fall asleep to that all the time, so it should make for good studying music

I'm listening to World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland right now, and it's pretty great. It might have something to do with me loving that album anyway, though.

Post-rock in general that doesn't have words should work for you.

If you want calm post-rock, I'd say Sigur Ros. Or maybe some ambient shit.

post rock - explosions in the sky, godspeed you black emperor, do make say think are all generally non lyrical - some short spoken samples tho

downtempo electronic and IDM are pretty good - Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin type shit

20th-21st century classical? John Cage, phillip glass type shit

I dunno anything nonlyrical

This album by evax (of ratatat) is super melo and minimalist. It's great for studying or reading. It's a real nice album too, I'm surprised it gets so little attention compared to ratatat's albums.

Any music with too distinct melodies could be distracting. Try this.

Or maybe Melody of Japan by Atsumasa Nakabayashi Trio

Here's another song I like a lot that kind of reminds me of this album. If anyone else knows anything that sounds like this I'd be happy to listen to it.

If decreasing anxiety is your goal, try Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel:

Personally, I prefer Brahms' 21 Hungarian Dances (set to shuffle) as study music. Not because it reduces anxiety, but because it prevents my mind from conjuring its own melodies to ruin my concentration with.
