ITT: musicians who made their career by ripping off other musicians
Fuck off, you chickenshit fucking faggot.
House of Balloons was an entire rip off from some dude who now goes by the name of Zodiac
>At a party
>Abel is there
>Zodiac is there
>Zodiac shows Abel the beats he was working on
>Abel starts to rap over them
>Zodiac asks him if he wanted to be part of this project called the Weeknd
>Zodiac gives him the beats for the first 3 songs and asks ofc for credits
>Abel posts the songs on a blog or w/e
>Slowly starts getting noticed
>Abel does not credit Zodiac
>Abel gets diff producers to basically reproduce the first 3 song's beats
>House of Balloons drops. hype ensues
>Zodiac gets shit
>everything after House of Balloons sucks ass, which shows really who was the actual mastermind behind the weeknd
>guthrie govan talking about plagiarism
Art is a game of stealing usually, even when you take an influence.
Creativity parts from the same point of expression and thus derive from the same object, if you mean covers or taking an specific chord structure yeah, there are not plagiarists but just appreciation for an specific sound taken.
the best parts of house of balloons didn't even involve Zodiac. He did get fucking screwed, but people underestimate Abel too much. At least for that first mix, he was on par with Zodiac
Actually, the BEST part of HOB was Zodiac's tracks (first 3 or 4 IIRC). You can see the sudden change in style by the 4th track, which IMO goes downhill. And even then, the producers were literally biting and copying Zodiac's style.
And yeah, Abel might be underrated, but the fact is everything after HOB has been a flop, and I don't think it was a coincidence that with Zodiac out of the pic the quality of the albums have gone to the shitter.
I didn`t believe that was actually a group til I looked it up - the name is obviously a rip from the Theoretical Girls - no wave group with Glenn Branca in it
I mean, I`ve idly thought that since The Cramps did a Spongebob appearance as the Bird Brains, it`d make sense for someone else to do an homage to the experimental scene in a cartoon, like Hypothetical Girls (all guys) or whatever... I didn`t think that would actually be a real thing...
