Physical media is just dead weight junk to drag around every time you move house. You can judge somethings's true value by its 2nd hand resale market and no one gives a fuck about CDs.

Hmm. I own a bunch of both. Prefer digipack and similar shit though. Just sturdier. Not that jewel cases are terrible or anything. I mean, I don't mistreat my shit. My jewel cases aren't broken, or damaged unless they were purchased in that condition. Those one dollar CDs at Rhino though. Anyway. Yeah. Shit's cool.

I once bought a double album in one of those cases where you fold out the inside holding the CD to reveal another CD sitting on the opposite side. Anyway, it had gotten so fucked up in the mail that the hinges for folding that shit out had broken to the point where I couldn't even open it. I had to almost break the case completely to get the disc out.
Luckily it was just Stadium Arcadium, so nothing of value was lost, but still, I fucking miss those big and sturdy double jewel cases. Why did they stop with those anyway?
>>
>>55468084
Uh... You mean gatefolds? Because that's a thing.
>>
>>55468445
No, I mean plastic casings identical to jewel cases but big enough to accommodate a twelve inch record.

Oh man you really got me good there. How will I recover

What I meant was, you can't change the fact that there are cars in a city. I guess you can piss and moan about superior European public transit infrastructure, but even European cities still have cars. If the sight of cars in a city disgusts you so much then maybe living in the city isn't right for you.
>>
Jewel cases are fucking hideous, the cover always fucking snaps where it connects to the back. It cracks if you look at it the wrong way. Maybe if you faggots learned to handle digipacks properly you wouldn't need the most shitty, generic looking case in the world.
>>
>>55468718

I like digipaks better, they don't wear that much if you take care of them.

>>55467627
>>55467636
The worst are those stickers on top that don't come off in one piece and leave glue traces. Hell, I even had an obi-strip glued on a digipak once, and it left glue stains — just ridiculous.

>>55468052
They're hard, often nice-looking copies that have the best sound quality (can't hear a difference between 320/v0 and CD quality, but you'd be surprised how many files on Soulseek are 128 transcodes) and can be ripped easily if you need to. But it's true that sometimes they're just sort of tokens of gratitude for supporting the artist/label.

Nah a few weeks ago there were threads for CD collections. I think CD collectors are fairly plentiful here, they're just silenced by the plebeian vinyl lovers

Most of my collection is predominantly CD. I actually have a lot of shit on CD that I couldn't find online or on torrent.

As for the choice between digi's and jewels.
Digipaks get ripped, faded and worn out easier, mostly because they don't come with any sort of plastic wrap like vinyls. But jewel cases have a habit of easily braking hinges and can be pretty delicate if dropped.

Anyways, I still prefer the jewel-case over digipaks because even if they are damaged, they can easily be replaced for less than a buck.

woah what's with the animosity towards record collectors

i'm pretty sure it's only the kids who are in it for the novelty of vinyl records that are super elitist about it, most don't really give a shit about what format, so long as it's physical
besides, i'm pretty sure most people with extensive record collections also have decent CD/ cassette collections

I have a dream of a world where Tapeguys / CDguys / Recordguys can co-exist peacefully
>>
>>55467987
Lets not forget how easy it is to scratch a CD by removing it from a tough digipack. The only acceptable ones have the little paper sleeves.

I have a car, thing is a fucking money pit. I hate that shit.

But, I need one in my city because we don't have subways, the buses are shit and a ton of them stop at 7PM, I can't buy beer in variety stores, and most jobs here require "reliable transportation" (which means "your own car"). Lose-lose really.
>>
>People in this thread worrying about the condition of their worthless possessions.

Seriously, no one cares about the condition of your CDs, it's not like they have any worth in this day and age. Quite frankly the only reason to have CDs is for archival purposes, and for the Digipaks are thinner and thus more can fit on a shelf, there's no reason to ever use jewel cases.
