Is there anything more tryhard than smoking while performing?
Jazz musicians who did it looked cool as fuck. Saw an old video of Miles performing on tv. And after his solo, he just walked back and was talking and smoking with another dude in the band while someone else was soloing. It was the complete opposite of tryhard.
But that pic looks tryhard.
So maybe it just depends.
Like, if the dude were sitting at the piano with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, I'd think that's pretty cool too.

that's eric judy from modest mouse
they're a group of hicks from washington so they probably smoke a lot so i'd assume it's just natural for them

it helps some people calm their nerves
being on a stage can be stressful

I really need to start smoking. And maybe learn to play the piano.
this cocksmoker

as an ex-jazz-pianist , it's not worth it
it may seem cool to be up on stage withh 2 other guys, playing you heart out, but its not worth the consequences. also, at first, the girls think youre sexy for being such an intellect, but by the time you start soloing theyre off with a rocker.

I think it depends on who is doing
I think this is bad ass as fuck

They were meth smokers and glue sniffers, and used to play high back in their indie days.

do you crush fantasies professionally now, or just in your spare time?
>>55358698
shawn lane is incredible but holy shit dude, play a damn melody
I wasn't a smoker in the first place, but Mac demarco's image has turned me off of ever wanting to smoke
I dunno, I think Nick Cave was pretty cool back when he was all Old Testament and self-destructive

it was a joke that i never really found the right words for. i was trying to switch the roles of piano and cmoking in that guys wishes

putting the cigarette between the strings of the guitar
I always loved to look of the under ground 1920s jazz club with everyone dressed up and smoke being all over the place
not try hard at all, very layed back
If I ever see someone smoking an e-cig during a performance, then I'll know I've seen tryhard.

i want to play piano in a dark, smoky bar. 3am. place basically deserted. except for some 40-somthing year old lady whose best years are behind her, watching me quietly, sipping scotch. i could be happy sleeping with a thousand different mature woman with sad eyes and lots of baggage.
i mean that or playing at a bar at a resort in mexico or hawaii. lonely tourists, always looking for a fling.
a piano man can still do well. just need to adjust your sight a little.

so many artists do this though
it's kind of a dick move, but only sometimes

American Spirits, blue, gold, dark blue. Probably the best, but smoked by unironic hipster tryhards sadly
Marlboro Reds are the strongest and most popular with a lot of people but go pretty fast compared to Spirits
Camels is you like smoking dirt.
Lucky Strikes are harder to find and not as good.
Don't pick it up as a habit, trust me. But it's interesting to try at one point when you realize that everyone does it in social and music/bar situations

Gauloises. Like the french aristocrats. Also these guys: john lennon, jim morrison, george orwell etc.

Yes, in the sense that it actually makes doing what you're doing harder and the artist could easily wait until the song is over to finish smoking. Still, they've decided that it wasn't that big of a deal so I don't, either. I've smoked while playing the piano and I found it a little tough to multitask so I didn't get ash all over the keys.
Smoking for singers always seemed even more dangerous to me since it can fuck up their voice over time and not everyone can make due with werewolf language like Tom Waits.
jesus christ im so happy I never got into smoking, stick to weed, and the occasional mushroom trip ;^)
There's a scene in the concert for george when a very heroin'd out Eric Clapton comes on to play While My Guitar Gently Weeps and takes a small puff of his cigarette and puts the whole cig behind his headstock and right as the song finishes he finishes it.

Concert For Bangladesh sorry
I saw Gesaffelstein at coachella and he basically chain-smoked throughout his entire set. he pulled it off pretty well, he made everything seem so effortless
