old shit, revival shit, favorite group, lesser known bands, whatever

do you consider this heat to be post punk?
what about viet cong?
i think this is a fairly unclear genre
>>
>>55201105
The more of any genre you listen to the more you'll be able to discern if new music fits into that genre. In the end it's all about your own perception though so fuck it
I feel like genres for most music kind of fits that phrase / ethos about pornography - 'I can't tell you what it is but I know it when I see it' - can be applied as 'I can't describe [genre] (perfectly at least) but I know it when I hear it' once you've listened to it enough
>>
Yes we needed a new one of these, thanks anon. Do Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds really count as post punk? His older and first couple of albums, yeah maybe, but what about the rest?
>>
Is Foliage the modern day Ian Curtis? He stated Joy Division mainly Curtis as a primary influence.
>>
>>55200936
I'm just wondering how many Post-Punk Bands aren't associated with any of the Goth or Industrial genres.
>>
>>55201173
Dance punk and funky stuff are usually left off
>>
>>55201173
most of the American post-punk bands such as Minutemen and Mission of Burma
>>
>>55201151
i agree but the post punk threads often include "that's not post punk bro"
certainly the more music you listen to the more patterns and groupings you will identify

Fair enough. I mean don't let assholes tell you that This Heat / Viet Cong don't at least have significant post-punk influence, but genres are pretty fluid and too much is up to interpretation for anyone to really be 'right' in genre issues for the most part
>>
>>55201105
i think they have post-punk elements. i sort of divide the genre between more simple (joy division, siouxsie, wire etc) sounds and more experimental shit (this heat, alt tv etc)

Listened to this the other day and it hit me just how fucking great it is. I had heard it once maybe a year or so ago and thought it was pretty good, but goddamn...We Are Time is one of the best post-punk tracks ever
>>
>>55201372
uses some strange guitar effects on some songs but i feel theyre more straightforward punk. not "best" but fuck it

I was recommended this by a dude who owns a local record store. Pretty much rules so far.

>>55201105
Deceit, yeah. Their s/t has some influence, but is more just experimental electronic, save for Horizontal Hold and The Fall of Saigon
>>
>>55201503
this is dope
>>
>>55201503
female post-punk vocalists doing a Siouxsie/Eve Libertine impersonation are the equivalent of male post-punk vocalists doing a Ian Curtis/John Lydon impersonation

thanks I'll check 'em

i dig it, a little like erase errata no?

>>
>>55201105

Post-punk is an umbrella term for describing very different bands whose whole thing was experimentation. If a band took punk, but had chops, and influences beyond the usual, they were probably post-punk.

Ambient remix of music from the SNES game Secret of Evermore.

Kinda reminds me of Arab on Radar
>>
Am I the only Josef K fan? I feel like they've had such a huge influence on future bands
>>
Anyone here like this? I saw them randomly last month and seeing them got me hooked.
>>
>>55201518
is the rest of Crass' discography as good as Penis Envy?
>>
>>55201811
Feeding of the 5000 is alright. Worth listening to at least
>>
>>55201524
i actually listened to this for the first time today. pretty cool stuff.
>>
>>55201811

Stations of the Crass is their best album.

Sounds more Lydia Lunch to me.

am i the only one here that absolutely loves 23 skidoo?? i mean man the way they play with the balance of ambience and really groovy rythems is amazing on their first three albums.
here's some samples for those of you unfortunate enough to have not heard these guys.

Got a Mega link? Only their newest album is in the archive.
>>
>>55202480
let me dig around, I know i could only find it on rutracker when i downloaded it so you might want to check there if you have an account. which album would you care for seven songs, the culling is coming, or urban gamelan?
>>
>>55202480
http://rbt.asia/mu/?task=search&ghost=yes&search_text=23+skidoo+mega

this link has seven songs (their debut album) on it, my personal favorite. 225 on the top link and if you go to the bottom there should be some flac links. i cant speak for the actual quality though cause as i said i got mine from somewhere else
>>
>>55202542
Cool, found their discography on Rutracker. None of the albums you mentioned seem to be by them though so I'm not sure what you mean.
>>
>>55202601
Oh, okay, I was talking about the Soft Moon, not 23 Skidoo.

Ian Curtis of Joy Division.
Coincidentally Elijah Wood once stated on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson he enjoyed listening to Joy Division periodically.
