what is this? looks interesting

A visual representation of film plots. I'm trying to figure out how you would express the musical equivalent.
>>
>>55084547
this is very difficult to understand

Tarantino and Warhol make sense

Is the square in Fellini supposed to be internal conflict prohibiting success?
What is Lynch's even?
>>
>>55084835
Fellini's I believe is the idea that his plots go around the central idea without passing through it, much like Bergman will circle on something like sex or death the entire movie without directly digging in. you can compare it to Herzog, who does documentaries.

Lynch fucks off, goes non-euclidean and comes back somewhere else only to go in a different direction.

>>55084920
this makes sense, interesting chart

I want to see a film by Frampton now, could you explain that one?

Have you ever read into graphic scores? Look at Cardew's piece Treatise, probably the most famous but many people have experimented with different types of notation for music
>>
>>55085216
Never seen frampton. I'm a film pleb outside some french shit with smoking and titties, a few swedes and acid westerns.
>>
>>55085288
i tried to look up frampton but couldn't really find anything because there are too many Framptons on IMDB haha

you found a narrative?
>>
>>55085242
Stockhausen has plenty of graphic pieces too, Cardew was his assistant. Iannis Xenakis made some really far out visual notation as well
>>
>>55085645
Im not familiar with this director or his work but ive seen abstract films and skipping through quick ya I formed my own ideas though most likely misinformed since im not properly watching it straight through

We're discussing the notation of musical narrative.

>>55085825
Oh, it looks like his face. Now it all makes sense.

I only know of a few names on there like Tarintino, Lynch and Hitcock. I know Warhol did paintings but I don't know he made movies. The other names sound really obscure (the guy who directed Miami Vice? really?) so I don't know what they're doing next to those names.

I'm thinking this is just a troll thing where people are supposed to talk about the deep meaning even though it has a fucking nazi symbol and a question mark in it.
>>
>>55085952
Riefenstahl directed nazi propaganda. It's really all straightforward if you've seen at least a third of it, especially the earlier stuff.

I like the idea, but I'm not convinced the picture makes sense. It reminds me of that chart that sorted albums into categories like "greasy", "bouncy", "cold", etc — it's just too vague, abstruse and open to interpretation to not smell like bullshit.

Or maybe I just don't know enough about cinema.

Stephen Malinowski does some nice, simple visualizations:

György Ligeti’s Artikulation is another well-known graphic score:

Xenakis has actually used a machine for translating drawings into sound:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yztoaNakKok (this one really sounds "too deep for me")
Coil too with the ANS, though the results weren't that interesting.
