We'll see. For the moment I think that one works fine.

I think it would be a good idea to settle on a chart we could keep editing every time a great release comes out.

GUISE! I figured out how to turn all your non shoegaze music into shoegazing.

Just take a pair of bad headphones (or in this case goo) like the pic and blow them out so you get even more distortion. All your non shoegaze will be genuine shoegaze in seconds!

Keeping looking at the ground guys and always remember to mumble

I've never listened to music classified as shoegaze, but I listen to wild nothing and other similar artists and yet have heard none of these other artists. Are you sure you have this band listed correctly?
>>
>>54704761
They're more dream pop than shoegaze, but the two styles are pretty closely related. Cocteau Twins isn't shoegaze either, but they're important to the development of it.

>>

Pretty much every shoegaze release that isn't by MBV, Slowdive, or Ride gets underrated. The Invisible Man is such a bizarre track I love it. Need to get around to listening to Spooky when I can.

Looking for something along the lines of Bowery Electric (trip + shoegaze) Anything decent?

I'm a noob and I really really like the (prepare for the worst explanation ever) slow and bass heavy sound of Souvlaki, as opposed to the dense sound of Loveless I guess? Especially Space Station and When The Sun Hits. Anyone got any recommendations?

This right here is literally art gallery-core. This as abstract and artistic it gets.

It's not even really shoegaze, it's just really shoegaze influenced electro-acoustic.

>>
>>54698528
psychedelic is spelled wrong on this chart
also i think the little descriptions of the first 3 albums should be brought back for new listeners to decide what they want first (iirc it was like noisey, wall of sound, dense and layered for loveless, dreamy and spacey for souvlaki, and alt rocky/genre mixing for nowhere).

Hey guys, what have you been listening to lately?
>>
>>54698528
ooh that's a nice new chart
but Yukari Telepath is one of my all-time favourite albums and it's definitely not dark/sad, it's heavy and metallic but actually quite happy/resolute
>>
>>54730136
I've been thinking that this should be on the chart between the Goslings and Merzbow.
>>
>>54738880
seemed dark to me, the vocals especially. It almost seems exasperated. It's got some harder guitar riffs too which I would place it in the darker region with shoegaze which is generally more happy anyway. I guess it comes down to opinion. I'm trying to force connections often where they don't really exist as well as in other places so people have kind of an idea what to listen to next if they liked it. I'd imagine someone who likes this would enjoy something sad too, is all.

>>54738883
I'm just running out of space is all. I might try and shoehorn it in. Thanks for your suggestion.

What do you guys think of The Bilinda Butchers?
They definitely sound interesting.
>>
>>54698528
the nasa album is not space sounds

its recordings of waveforms/frequencies (that arent soundwaves) made on space. That then were converted to sound just by assuming those waves/frequencies were sound ones (a thing they arent).
Then the artist got those sounds and applied effects on it to make it a sound.

if you remove the effects part the closest artist from this type of "space sound" is

they sure are on the post-bm side of the spectrum. the chart is quite broad so it touches on a few different aspects of blackgaze. like >>54729840 said the newest lantlos is on the postrock side and the mantle is probably mostly folk metal. i tried to give a few different perspectives on the genre with this chart though.

again, definitely open for suggestions or additions

Any fans of Whirr and/or Nothing?
I saw Nothing earlier this month and they were great. Seeing Whirr for a second time next month.
>>
>>54742689
Gonna see Whirr April 19th and I'm really excited for that. I saw A Place to Bury Strangers at the same venue and that was a great show

>>54742689
Currently hooked on Whirr and looking to acquire a couple of their physical releases. I read the other day that they would be touring in April, but I won't be able to go. The worst part is, in a year I will probably be a stone's throw away from one of their destinations, but they're all to far from me right now.

I discovered Nothing long before I discovered these threads. I liked them then, and I like them even more now. Probably won't get to see them for a while either.

Not even close. Their nearest stop is somewhere in Texas, and that's several hours' drive from here. Flying is out of the question.

imo whirr > nothing but I still really like nothing. Whirr is best nugaze for sure though.

How did y'all feel about this??
>>

Adding to this. No Joy is a close second for best new(ish) band doing shoegaze rn
>>
>>54744084
love both. i hate bands doing split ep's though. how do i even catalog them digitally? various artists, first bandname, or a duplicate for both? makes my 'autism' kick in
>>
>>54738859
this pedal is not that great and over priced. you'll get a better and less expensive shoegaze sound with a marshall reflector into a marshall guvnor
>>
>>54744219
Musicbee makes any split/comp show up as a whole in each artists page. idk if this helps you or not but I think its nice
>>
>>54744025
A lot of those I haven't played myself just yet. From my notes:
>Whirlpool: even better the second time
>Heaven's End: so-so
>In the Presence of Nothing: neat but kinda droney
>The Comforts of Madness: pretty good
>Drop You Vivid Colours: interesting
>bloweyelashwish: makes good background music

>>54744219
>how do i even catalog them digitally?
Haha, never thought about it that way, but you're right. That's caused me problems too.
>>
>>54744278
actually, that's exactly what i'm looking for. thanks!
>>
Anyone here have any limited pressing of whirr - sway? I'll spend up to $35 for a cool pressing

I know they're not there, I like this band, I'm just keeping it more essential stuff, you know? I could probably put it in the japanese section, but eh.

>Psychocandy similar to Boces
Other than that, solid chart.
>>
>>54751802
If you think about it in a sense of them both being noisey pop albums then yeah I guess it works.
But I think bands like Astrobite and Goslings owe more to JAMC and sound more like their type of noise than Mercury Rev.
>>
>>54744038
I just bought Guilty of Everything today actually. I will probably buy Sway when I see them.
>>
>>54744019
I'm surprised you don't like Nothing if you like Whirr. Did you heard Nothing's side of the split with Whirr?
Those 2 tracks are phenomenal.
>>
>>54752644
Looks like that's the one I'll be going with - in the end I rolled a die to decide. I kept rolling Guilty of Everything again and again. Did you get it from Relapse or from somewhere else?

Just try to tell me she isn't the most qt shoegazer ever, with those teeth and that awkward smile, I dare ya.

>A.R. Kane? Excuse me this is a shoegaze chart.
You already have Cocteaus and Psychocandy on there.

If they're shoegaze then so is fucking A.R.Kane
>>
>>54753731
uguu

this

The idea was to branch out into closely related styles anyway.
>>
>>54753731
Shoegaze is just a qt genre in general.

Should be Just For A Day
>>
>>54755518
Heaven or Las Vegas is clearly labeled dream pop as a compass to look into something else. That's why Boces and Pulse Demon are on there.
Psychocandy is shoegaze, just listen to the second track, and it's a major influence on the scene.
Look how many albums are on there and how many were suggested in this thread. I'm not adding more that aren't shoegaze, sorry.

>>54757786
fuck I suck
>>
>mikgazer
is this a meme
>>
>>54758984
It's not bad. I like it actually.
>>
>>54758984
it's music so yes
>>
Anything more like Xinlisupreme?
>>
>>54759618
Sometimes I wish there would be bands made specifically to rip off bands that haven't made enough music.

I guess that's kind of what a lot of shoegaze bands are, but there needs to be more stuff like Xinlisupreme is what I'm saying.
>>
>>54757176
tru

cheers anon!
>>
>>54704254
I just listened to this, never really got into shoegaze outside of the basics for this is really fun

Gonna search for more, thanks a lot, anon
>>
what lrd album has the most shoegazes?
>>
>>54738859
Dude, that's a really cool fucking pedal.
Of course as I expect it to be over priced than it should be. But I would totally pay as much as it cost for a collective thing.
>>
>>54758769
A.R Kane are clearly shoegaze though, even if they experiment with it alot. Just listen to Up! and Lolita EP. Also, they literally coined the term dream-pop so they have huge historical value.
