Following this up, they work remarkably similar to how OF worked at the beginning of their career. Creating drama, controversy and spectacle was how they managed to get everyone on board with their schtick, it's just that OF's music never lived up to the hype they created and they deflated due to that.

DG hasn't made this mistake, they live up to their own hype through doing generally unconventional shit musically so they never really deflate their own hype balloon.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it certainly makes them entertaining but their image is probably going to get boring eventually.

the most alarming thing they do is not following the conventions that already exist. in practice most of their "stunts" are simple actions made for simple reasons. they cancel shows because they don't feel like playing them or have other things they want to do. lots of acts do this, it just usually comes with an excuse or an apology. but seriously who cares, it doesn't change the fact that the show isn't happening, so fuck that noise.

they don't give interviews probably because doing music interviews is the worst. the questions are always vapid shit that has nothing to do with music. usually it's the same questions over and over. most music journalism focuses on stuff like controversy, anecdotes, personal life shit, and aesthetics.

they aren't communicative, sociable, commercial, or public. none of these qualities have jack shit to do with music. they make music and that's it. the fact that it's outrageous for a band to simply make music and then give it out for free without fanfare is pretty silly if you think about it. it's like if there was a bakery where they just handed out cookies and people thought they were crazy assholes because they didn't suck your dick at the same time.

Opening for a tour like that is a shit deal from the get go, I don't know why they even considered it.

For starters an arena setting sucks for any band used to small venues, and and add to that the minimal amount of stage they'd be allowed playing in front of Soundgarden and NiNs setups, not to mention sound guys that don't give a fuck, even if it was possible to make them sound good in those venues.

Any smaller band opening for big name bands is going to be tolerated or ignored at best on these type of tours and even more so if its a new innovative band opening for established to the point of being banal mainstream acts.

They would have busted their fucking asses to complete indifference, impatience and anoyance from the entire crowd.
