The Lyrical Guitar of Pepe Martinez (1968)
>flamenco (flac, vinyl rip)
>The liner notes discuss the fact that there are two distinct camps when it comes to flamenco guitar, the fast and fiery style which is popular with younger (in 1968) players, and Flamenco Lyrico, which was typified in the past by players like Ramon Montoya, and now Pepe Martinez.

Dave Scott- Nonchalant (2009)
>post-bop, free jazz
>This quintet, led by trumpeter Dave Scott, plays very loose, very free music, but they do it with a rare sense of subtlety and restraint. If you’re only looking for loud chaotic music, this isn’t for you, but the group’s more reserved approach leads to plenty of exciting interplay that reveals itself with close listening.

The sound is ultimately rock, with overdriven guitars, repetitive basslines, and strong backbeats, but with complex, shifting-time signatures and song forms, as well as improvised solos and accompaniment, this album also draws some influence from classic avant-garde jazz players as well (especially from the keys player, Craig Taborn, who is becoming one of the most widely known pianists in contemporary avant-jazz.)

nah the playing is all right, like I said I think this is decent. But listening to the album and especially him talk, really reminds me of how sober and academic jazz has become (also something I felt to the new Vijay Iyer album). A lot of this is made by havard/berklee/something expensive grads who play expensive sit down concerts that I can't afford to go see... I don't know it just feels far removed from what jazz culturally used to be. I'm not saying all the artists need to be heroin addicts boppin around with Art Blakey but... yeah actually I wish I could go see that era again.

It's hard to go very wrong with Dave Holland. Everything he plays on is pretty consistently good. Conference of the Birds was his first album as a leader and considered by many to be one of the best free jazz albums.
