Let's get some silent lovin' started. What is the last ambient release you listened to and how did you like it? Any good new stuff?
Lucette Bourdin is my favourite newest find. It's that warm drone ambient that feels like it's hugging your ears. Gorgeous.

checking Golden Sun out, seems great so far.
My most recent ambient love is the new Ricardo Donoso - Sarava Exu.
It's actually amazing to sleep to, some really unique sounds and styles.
Also I highly recommend;
>Zarr. - A Wandering Clarity
http://zarr.bandcamp.com/album/a-wandering-clarity
and
>k - Lumi (Fellow /mu/ producer who was looking for feedback on his work)
http://kamaldinov.bandcamp.com/album/lumi
Liner notes on Music for Airports:
>Ambient Music must be able to accomodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting.
Is this a good way of assessing ambient music? This quote has really stuck with me whenever I hear ambient stuff.
Finishing this right now
CD 1 is really spacey, CD 2 has more psychedelic sounds
I like part III better

I'm definitely feeling this too. Ambient doesn't need to grab your attention at all times, it simply achieves its goal by making you lost in thought.
I just listened to Trilogie De Mort by Eliane Radigue, and have been really digging David Tagg's Fundamentals Of Orchid Biology lately. Haven't listened to any "real" ambient this year but I did listen to Jeff Bridges albums, The Sleeping Tapes. It was really interesting, but I don't think there is very much replay value in it. Anything from the last year or so that you guys would recommend?

Lawrence English - Wilderness of Mirrors
>>54251093
>Anything from the last year or so that you guys would recommend?
Oh definitely Robert Rich's Perpetual - A Somnium Continuum
i listened to this today while stoned, and it felt like really breezy and relaxing.
any good suggestions based on this? i dig hecker's noisier albums but i was wondering if there are other albums similar to this.
>>54251315
Have you listened to Haunt Me yet? Best one imo, would also check out 94 Diskont by Oval.
>>54251315
This is more noisier and dronier than Radio Amor but still hits me in the same spot.
Like Hearts Swelling by Polmo Polpo

Depths by Windy & Carl

>>54251315
Check out Lawrence English's new album "Viento" It's field recordings from Patagonia and Antarctica
whats something similar to eluvium? i tried googling electronic ambient but keep getting linked to chillstep mixes on youtube
listening to William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops for three hours straight now, two hours to go!
also, Tim Hecker's Ravedeath, 1972 is my favorite album of all time, hands down.
personally I find Stars of the Lid boring, but I love A Winged Victory for the Sullen's s/t.
Deaf Center's Pale Ravine and last year's Recount are very solid, same with OP's pic related
Biosphere's Substrata is great, and I recommend to all of you this year's split with Deathprod - "Stator".
Raime - Quarter Turns Over a Living Line, Belong - October Language, Deathprod's own Morals and Dogma are all solid
Kreng's Grimoire and this year's The Summoner are great
FUCK, I can go forever like this, this is probably my favorite genre ever.
soo maybe some slightly more obscure stuff?
Thomas Koner - Permafrost
Hildur Guðnadóttir - Leyfðu ljósinu
Jacaszek - Treny, Glimmer, Pieśni
>>54250478
just discovered someone named Kwajbasket on Bandcamp and I instantly fell in love with his work, especially The Long Way Out
>>54250986
I've noticed that my favorite ambient albums fit that assessment perfectly, so I'd say that that's a good way, yes
>>54251093
2014 was an incredible year for ambient in my opinion, here's a few of my favorites:
Ian William Craig - A Turn of Breath
Hakobune - Seamless and Here
Symbol - Online Architecture
Kyle Bobby Dunn - Kyle Bobby Dunn & The Infinite Sadness
Hammock - The Sleepover Series, Volume Two (check this out even if you dislike Hammock's other work, this is different and by far their best release)
>>54251945
you're a cool dude, although we have opposite opinions on Stars of the Lid and Biosphere
recommendations for dark ambient?
>>54253170
you heard of haxan cloack ??
>>54253170
>>54253170
i have been waiting waay too long to listen to this masterpiece by brian eno
while i still think that 2000s ambient is far superior to this 80s stuff, some tracks on this probably count to the best ambient tracks i ever heard, especially an ending (ascent)
>>54253170

I would say the man who died in his boat but its gotta be ruins it was easy my AOTY for 2014 I played that shit so much, I mean its why I went out my way to buy the special edition from Discogs for like £50
Also while im waiting for this to upload can somebody please give me some recs related to this?
>>54256074
Liz might be my favorite musician so far, but I'm not feeling Ruins (yet). I'm trying very hard though but then again I'm more inclined to the drones in her music, rather then the folk influences
>>54256097
You want more Eno or more dark ambient in general?
>>54256354
yeah that's understandable I can see how some people were put off by it but for me at least.I mean my favorite track from The man who died in his boat was Being her Shadow and considering Ruins is pretty much in the same vein as that It couldn't have been better really.
>>54256458
Both really, preferably Eno, Iv'e made my way through all of his Ambient series. Is there anything else worth listening to that's comparable to it?

foremost Apollo (Atmospheres and Soundtracks) by Brian and Roger Eno
Evening Star by Fripp & Eno, Evening Star is GOAT track on that album
Substrata by Biosphere is very Eno-ish, recommended
Brian Eno is very prolific and has done some very good art rock early on, check out Another Green World and Before and After Science
Stealth by Sleep Research Facility
Purifying Fire by Lustmord
All of Robert Rich
Deathprod
Also this as a bonus Consumed by Plastikman, sophisticated fusion of Dark Ambient and Techno imho
Also because you like Grouper, definitely check out Meshes of Voice by Jenny Hval & Susanna
thanks for uploading!

just started this thread and maybe youguys can help me.
Recently discovered Capsule and their album Caps Lock is shaping up to be one of my new favorites
Okay so im a huge pleb and of all the /mu/core stuff I really like BoC. I was told this was ambient, so I found an ambient chart and listened to stuff on it. I liked a lot of it, but none of it really struck me as the same genre as BoC. Should I be looking somewhere else?
>>54255893
Good Christ please
Listened to Music for Airports at an airport today. Was good.
>>54257407
Yeah. Try "downtempo" it's a vague genre but I think it works. You could also try "ambient techno"
>>54251489
Those two songs sound so nice if you play them with the second one being about 5 seconds ahead.
>>54251073
my nigga
I fucking love FAX releases. Torrented the label's discog and buy any CD or vinyl I can of them.
Favorite is definitely Pete Namlook - Dark Side of the Moog VIII
I'm late to the party on this one, but Fennesz's Endless Summer
>>54257352
This aint ambient bro
>>54258412
Should have included a sample
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGcPwGqPHO0
I don't listen to a whole lot of ambient, but I really think this is one of the most beautiful albums of any genre and should be considered essential ambient.
