/trad/ - for all your traditional music needs!

Feel free to request music from various regions and countries in this thread, or share stuff that you've found interesting. Anything is welcome as long as it's traditional!

May be an idea to give the threads a theme each day; a region, country, continent... something to get stuck into rather than a haphazard kind of free for all which doesn't really take off. Mind you not everyone is interested in the same countries and it didn't work that well in the group. I'll just shut up and go back to work.
>>
this is the death grips forum
>>

Yeah, I considered that for a while.
>Mind you not everyone is interested in the same countries and it didn't work that well in the group.
It did for a while, but it was a bit too much effort I think.
>>
I'm gonna go eat lunch and then head to the library to study, might look if there's any neat traditional music there.
>>
>>54216125
>but it was a bit too much effort I think.

Between that and other commitments yeah
>>
Just arrived at the library, there's tonnes of music here, including traditional.

Now and always!

Most of the stuff here seems to be pop though.

You are the worst namefag ever. Why don't you just kill yourself ?
>>
>>54217366
Thanks.

There's some kind of lamination on the CDs, so I can't play them in my computer or rip them for people here. Shame, because I found some interesting stuff.
>>
>>54217531
Play them at home and record it with your phone
>>
>>54217589
Sounds like a great idea, but I literally don't have any other CD-player here than my laptop. At home I have a PS3, but I assume that would be the same thing.

here, have some gamelan.

I've fallen completely in love with this album of solo dotar music. It's in the archive.

New Cuban:

https://youtu.be/qRZ9qx7ytqc?t=1m24s

Why it's interesting: It's a collab with decent guys, and mr Abreu has not come out with new stuff in a while and everyone is expecting something.

A really relaxed tune, nothing spectacular.

Hey /trad/.
I've never been here before, but if there's any place to ask for this I guess it'd be this one.
I'm looking for this christian paladin sort of music.
Something that's fitting for all this purging/cursade theme.
Pls no epicon or two steps from hell
Also
no meme pls
Thanks in advance, pic related, it's how the music should make me feel.
>>
>>54219687
I think what you're looking for would usually belong to art music rather than traditional. Probably something like this, perhaps?

(literally just the first result for Perotin, not sure exactly what it sounds like)

>>54219743
I see, I just assumed because the OP listed >religion under the topics as well.

The link you've posted come very near to what I'm looking for. But that'd rather be, to continue my metaphor, what cursaders would listen to in the cathedral before riding out and burning witches in god's name. So maybe something a bit faster/fight-ish would be perfect.
Anyway thanks

I really want to get more into traditional Brazilian music, especially folk music - anyone have any good guides for where to start? I've listened to a bit of the psych/folk stuff from there from the 70s or so but not much beyond that.

Yes, I know, I was just curious if anyone had any artists, etc. to recommend besides the folkways compilations and such.
>>
>>54220471
With the amount of activity these threads get, it's hardly a big offense to ask for recommendations.

In my quest to find guitar styles similar to Johnny Marr's I came across African Highlife music. Man, this stuff is great. I can't get enough of it. However, there's a ton of stuff out there, but none of it is neatly archived in one place. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
>>
>>54220396
Man I listened to some capoeira music and it was a fucking snore. It really doesn't stand on its own without the accompanying dance.
>>
>>54220598
The opposite, rather. Might as well remove the links to encourage people posting instead.

Dope shit doode, I dig it.

There's a few album in the Nonesuch Explorer series, which you can find by searching the archive.

(I feel like this is my go-to phrase in these threads)

Seconding this request, I've been digging Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe recently and I'd like to find some similar stuffs
