>Hey anon, what are you listening to?
>not Top 40
>WOW OMG SOOOOOOOOOOO WEIRD XD
> anon this is to crazy can we listen to something else?
>that incredible feel when one of your pleb friends calls you a hipster and/or describes you as such to other people.
i say stuff like "that word really has no meaning" or "there's no such thing as hipsters" but i enjoy being labeled a hipster so fucking much
>what have you been listening to?
>is that some more of that japanese shit?
>no they're Icelandic
>oh yeah Iceland, ha ha hurchy durchy ikea right
i'm starting to think they're just fucking with me now
>tfw no one ever asks you about what music you listen to because nobody gives a shit about you
> be me
>whip out my phone
>plug in headphones
>open up music player
>scroll through all my beautiful music library consisting of actual artists
>death grips - the money store
>tilt screen towards girl sitting next to me
>i hope she noticed my FANTASTIC taste
she sucked my d there and then
All my friends really enjoy top 40 music, but they're kinda classy about it. They follow Billboard and can actually explain what they like about every song on there. Honestly, though, I'm kind of sick of it. They rarely ever talk about any other kinds of music; and I fucking erased top 40 music from my life when I graduated middle school. Sure, I'll listen to Uptown Funk and watch them all still freak out over it after hearing it over 100 times, but I still can't stand 95% of what's on the radio.
I also just wish I could play something without feeling like I have to impress everyone I'm with.
I just evade talking about music like a motherfucker.
I like to keep my interest for music to myself, unless I'm certain that I can have a decent conversation with a person about it.
>listen to Joy Division
>wow you're such a hipster anon!
>listen to Gogol Bordello
>what country is that from? so hipster of you
>listen to Taylor fucking Swift
>ha, i guess you're liking it ironically eh? total hipster
i cannot fucking win. next time i'm gonna approach them with hijokaidan leaking from my headphones
This so much.
>"you only listen to obscure shit ironically to create an image, you don't really like this music! Name me one popular song you enjoy!"
>"Shake It Off is catchy as hell, I like it a lot"
>"Yeah right you only like it ironically, there's no way you really enjoy Taylor Swift!!!"
What the fuck can I do? Whatever I like or hate, they think it's not sincere. Actually, I think they might be the ones who overthink music listening and can't enjoy something without being self-conscious about the image they're projecting.
so weird.. does anyone actually listen to music "ironically"? like do people sit on their own, listening to music of their own accord because it's some kind of injoke to them?
You're trying way too hard.
It's literally all noise that won't matter much to you or any of your friends once you become adults with actual real shit to be concerned with. Trilby wearing faglord.
i wear a trilby because i listen to and enjoy three popular musical acts, and i'm underage because me and my friends sometimes bring up the topic of music in casual conversation? do you lose the ability to socialise once you become a "real adult"? is your trilby bequeathed to you once you adequately demonstrate to a council of your peers that your taste in music isn't one-dimensional? so many unanswered questions
here in australia it's "haha you're smacked off your fucken tree mate why aren't you listening to Violent Soho on repeat every hour of every day of the fucken year ya poofta cunt"
but yeah I can empathize
nah. its a meaningless bullshit term. either you like something or u dont and sometimes you cant even tell why. some music may be trashy and shit and whatever but as long as it entertains you why shouldnt u listen to it. calling this kinda enjoyment 'ironically' just seems like a lame af excuse to me
Stop hanging around plebean kids and find people who are actually into the music you like too. Oh wait, that requires actual effort. Well, better cry and shitpost on /mu/ as usual then.
>listening to anything that has charted at all
I've just stopped showing people the music I like, unfortunately they've yet to do the same.
>friend playing Dr Dre, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg out loud
>ask if I can show play something
>play Madvillain - Raid and Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Thuggin'
>looks bored and eventually puts his earphones in
I just don't understand. It's not like it's fucking Merzbow or something.
Exactly this. I listen to everything anyone's ever told me to check out and gone on tangents from there, all because I feel everything you listen to can improve your songwriting.
> not listening to top 40 from the 70's/80's/90's/00's composed by actually talented and accomplished artists so your pleb friends get off their high horse.
