Thank god someone finally made a new thread.

Started working on this a couple of minutes ago and I think it sounds kind of nice although far from finished. Am I wrong and is it just annoying and utter shit or is it something I could make into a something decent?

https://clyp.it/qy3rj1fv
>>
>>53971693
I overlook these threads and hardly post in here anymore because im only looking for the lunga picture
>>
>>53972530
if you added a leading tone and a fifth right after the second chord in the loop it would sound reeeeeeeeally good

but i like how it is already good job dude

I think this could sound cool at a slower tempo, with less of a dancey feek and more of a hip-hop feel, if that makes any sense. The drums also feel a little too dry and straightforward, like they don't really "exist" anywhere in the mix and they're more of just sitting on top of it.

Anyway, I made this thing just today, for a lot of the parts I recorded them to cassette and then back into the computer, I think it helped a bit. I've never really done this style before.

>>
why the fuck is mixing bass so difficult
>>
>>53972695
i dig it dude, only thing i'd do different is change the synth bit that comes in around 30 seconds
>>
>>53972530
nice
>>
>>53972799
Any specific advice on how you would change it?
>>
Anyone wanna hear a too long, homosex house track i did?
It's my first house track too...
This one is a recent lo fi "remaster", i wanted it to sound like i'm listening to it on a car radio
https://clyp.it/pyfsn4s0
>>
>>53972760
It's not as long as your bass doesn't have a shitload of harmonic content

Keep it close to the fundamental
>>
>>53972760
Use slow attack/release times when compressing bassier instruments

Use a high pass filter on any tracks that don't have any necessary low frequency information. Get rid of that shit so the tracks don't cumulatively muddy up the low end of the mix

If you're mixing on speakers and don't have acoustic treatment, check the low end on a pair of headphones. If you've got decent headphones, they generally have a tighter bass response down below 60hz than monitors do (especially without room treatment) and they aren't affected by room acoustics.
>>
>>53972873
I'd also like to ask any compressor wizards passing by how you can mess with it to get this sort of "bouncy" effect i'm trying to achieve, or am i looking at the wrong effect?
>>
>>53973007
What you're talking about is sidechaining, and it's different depending on whatever DAW or plugin compressor you're using. Google "Sidechaining in <whatever DAW you're using" and I guarantee you'll find 50,000 tutorials about it
>>
>>53973007
sidechaining? I'm actually not sure how to do it with compressors but theres other ways of doing it. also you're song is ok, but make it shorter and add more transitioning synth noises and shit
>>
>>53973076
thanks, but i know about sidechaining, i use some variant of it in fl, but i can sometimes get a similar effect with the compressor alone. I just don't know exactly which function causes which reaction
>>
>>53973100
it was more of an exercise really, i don't plan on working on it anymore.
It is good for listening while driving at least.
>>
Hey is the anon that makes tracks with cute girls talking over them around here? I found a vid he might be able to make use of.

Congratulations you're the 100000000th person to sample bruce lee's 'become water' talk. Click the red X to claim your prize.

On a serious note: The mix is not bad. You seem to know what you're doing. I liked where the track went after 3:55.
>>
Pretty sure everyone is busy producing and actually getting work done since there was no /prod/ thread for a while.
>>
>>53974097
I'm actually shopping for new mics because a pair I bought were cheep shit that were malfunctioning, so I sent them back to the manufacter to be replaced under warranty and now they claim that I never sent the shit to them. They're obviously lying, and I insured the package so the Post Office is going to let me know for sure if the packaged was signed-for or not, BUT either way this doesn't bode well and I don't expect to have a happy relationship with this company and thus I am buying new mics from elsewhere.
>>
Found a sequence in one of the legowelt sample packs someone shared in the last thread and decided to play with it. I'm not sure how I feel about the snare.

https://clyp.it/f5hwkx2s
>>
>>53974216
That sounds golfwang as fuck; I like it.

The snare doesn't sound bad but it the way it is right now it doesn't really have any power.

i wrote and recorded both of these today. there's no vocals yet and the music it fairly simple (on purpose). i'd never worked with just my guitar and plugging into my computer and using plugins and virtual amps and shit, so it was fun to experiment for the first time.
>>
>>53974410

Thanks dawg; the original snare sample lacked low end, so I'll layer another one in there and see how it goes.

>>
>>53974458

The drums are drowned out by the guitar. Did you mix/compress/sidechain them at all?
>>
>>53975001
they have a kick compression and some reverb, but everything is intentionally blown out and 'wall of sound'-ed. i don't know what side-chain means.
>>
slightly unrelated but you know the /prod/ inspiration picture? "Lunga - Only Two More Beers" or whatever, is it actually a good album?
>>
how do i get my kick drum to sound flat?like they sound round and i want to sound flat but still have bass ya know?

judge for yourself: (some anon uploaded one of the tracks)
https://clyp.it/osvyji04
>>
>>53975055
It'd be nice to hear those drums though.

Sidechaining to my knowledge is basically running, say, all your drums or even just the snare to an additional channel and slapping a compressor on there and maybe even an EQ to boost certain frequencies. But don't quote me on that. Just google it. It's fundamental production knowledge, I think.

>>53975155

Do you have an example of a "round" and "flat" kick?
>>
>>53975172
Damn, this is really awesome. I wish there was a way to get the full thing.
>>
>>53975221
o you have ableton? they have a kick drum called kick bright room pla- something and a kick drum called kick session dry felt and they have a flat smack sound which is something i want to create
>>
>>53975288

Nope, I use FL. Make a quick demo of em and upload it to clyp.it
>>
>>53975288
try using the Kick Compression in the ableton plugins. it kills a lot of the oomph.

this is an ableton sketch i'm going to fill in with guitars and vocals and some warped tape synths and samples, so the structure is literally just to show all the ideas as fast as possible.
ignore that looping clip on the left channel at the start of the song, it was in a sample and i forgot to get rid of it.
any advice/comments on the track?

Fast attack, fast delay with a low sustain.
Use an eq to boost the freq's that make it punchy.
Compress to your liking.

That's how I'd do it.
>>
>>53972873
This is good dude, feels like it tells a story. The bass line is perfect. Side chaining is what you're looking for. Just figure out how to do it well enough to get what you want. I never did it in FL but in ableton it's easy as cake.

I didn't know threads like this existed, first time to /mu/, what you guys think of my unofficial remix of an Oliver Tank track?

https://soundcloud.com/djvega-3/oliver-tank-you-never-know
>>
I know this isn't the right thread but I didn't see a "Stupid Questions thead" and this will only take five seconds to answer:

I'm looking for earbuds that are of good quality for general use when listening to my phone whilst doing things. My budget is whatever, I'm just looking for quality. So far my earbuds are Beats that came free with the phone, and I don't really see the big deal with them.

I've been searching but so far a lot of stuff doesn't really have good reviews.

Anyone successfully installed the Waves Mercury Bundle on to FL Studio 11?
I keep getting errors when trying to load the plugins.
cheers.

Alright, I guess I will. I had thought about it originally, but figured this board would be better.

lets say i didnt have a female on hand to do vocals. what's my best bet for altering my own voice to sound pretty and feminine and not *too* artificial?
>>
https://clyp.it/fzzjzw31

starting to become proud of this one, any feedback?
>>
>>53977769
It sounds good, but maybe it's a little predictable. Kinda like
> ah, nice rhythm. Kinda nostalgic in a way
> but the reps done so that means there'll be-
> up, there's the bass. Still, this is very nice sounding but I think next there's gonna be-
> ah, there's the pitch. Nice sound overall but where do we go from here?
And then you don't go anywhere. Would like to see it as a full song though. Keep on keeping on.
>>
Not sure if I should ask this here, does /mu/ have a recommended guide/exercises/etc for gitting gud at piano?
>>
>>53972826
not him but i think its just a personal preference. I like this a lot btw. the only thing i'd do is try and make the drums sound really organic to mix with that effect; if that makes sense
>>
>>53977840
this makes a lot of sense, i thought it might've been a bit predictable too. It'll probably be mixed up when I throw the rhythm. thanks for the feedback!
>>
>>53977873
I think there's a piano thread not sure though. just pick a website to learn from and start from there. that's what I did
>>
>>53974458
>>53975055

That's like, really cool.

Humanize a bit the drums on track 1. ( A break or a fill somewhere )
I found their sound to be okay, maybe a little more presence for the kick in track 1 and a slightly less agressive snare.
>>
>>53978588
thanks dude. the drums i'm still iffy about, especially in the longer track. i'm just working with what i got, which is pretty limited until i get some better samples & loops to use.
>>

do people really visit 4chan outside of >>>/mu/prod ??
