Honestly, I never could get into Meshuggah. They aren't bad but their sound never really got to me. That does sound like a fucking rip off though. As much as I hate to say it, I still have normal fag in me that draws me to certain sounds, which is Pop Punk. I fucking hate it but, for some reason, it catches me. I've been experiment lately and Prog Metal/Djent is what caught me.

I've played guitar for close to ten years. You don't really 'need' any of that besides distortion. There are bands that djent just fine in Drop D, and you can do it in E standard if you really want to. Sure it's not going to sound as aggressive if you're playing a short scale guitar with 9 gauge strings on it, but it can be done. You're acting like the trends dictate whether or not it's possible to perform a specific type of guitar chug.
