I agree with your statement.
Also, not bad? Maybe we're not so different after all.

I hate Periphery cause I have loved Meshuggah since i was in grade 5 and i hate that Periphery watered down their sound for the lowest comman metal denominator
>>
>>53872708
>liking something is an insult to others
quit being such a faggot.
>>
>>53873088
Imagine if you found a new comepletely original sound that really resonates with you, and then someone put shitty pop punk vocals on it and it sold millions.

Welcome to the life of Meshuggah fans.
>>
>>53873162
You forgot "watered it down and marketed it to teenagers".
>>
>>53872984
Honestly, I never could get into Meshuggah. They aren't bad but their sound never really got to me. That does sound like a fucking rip off though. As much as I hate to say it, I still have normal fag in me that draws me to certain sounds, which is Pop Punk. I fucking hate it but, for some reason, it catches me. I've been experiment lately and Prog Metal/Djent is what caught me.

>>53873162
Okay, that just sounds awful from the start. I'm actually starting to feel bad for you, anon.
>>
>>53873162
they dont sound like meshuggah lmao. And I'm a big meshuggah fan.
>>
>>53873383
>feel bad for you

You making fun of me, punk?

>>53873578
They took the elements every other djent band took, the guitar tone and they tried the rhythmical but couldn't do it. Then they slathered it in shitty vocals and weird production techniques.

No djent band sounds completely like Meshuggah.

>>
>>53873775
No, I'm not trying to make fun of you. If another band rips off the sound of your favorite band and makes thousands of dollars more, that fucking sucks.

>>53873578
>>53873775
Frankly, I hear more inspiration than ripoff now that I'm comparing them. Periphery inspired by Meshuggah. It's okay to hate one who ever you want but I personally do not hear one ripping off the other.
>>
>>53873162

Can nobody recognize that Periphery are instrumental wizards? They've been making some of the most wild and creative riffs and guitar leads that I've heard lately in modern metal. Try these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjw5zKUb_w4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzXy1_1oWoU

It's just so fucking groovy
>>
>>53873869
I don't think i said all djent sounds the same. I said they all took the guitar tone and the rhythmical elements but if it doesn't have that it's not exactly djent is it?
>>
>>53873946
I still like Periphery and don't think they're embarrasing.

>>53873946
Like I said before, from what I can tell, they sound more inspired by Meshuggah than ripping them off. Yes, Djent tends to share common riffs, breakdowns, etc. but if the formula is changed, it can sound amazing.
>>
>>53873970
>took the guitar tone
I'm done here, you are beyond autistic if you're going to say they copied a tone to play in, which isnt even true, they play in different tones
>>
>>53874220
Do you even know what djent is? What djent means?

THE ENTIRE GENRE IS BASED OFF AND FUCKING NAMED AFTER THE GUITAR TONE

Jesus christ, the idiots on this fucking board. I take back everything nice i've ever said about djent fans. Even if they're djent fans are for the most part nice, honest people, the idiocy of this one man is enough to make me hate all of them.
>>
>>53873970
The guitar tone is why I can't stand djent. It's like they all use the same equipment and settings or something. I don't see how people like a genre where everything sounds the same with just different vocals and slight variation of riffs.
>>
>>53874369
Every djent band uses the Fractal Audio AXE-FX 2 on the "Koloss Rhythm" setting. A setting created by the guitarists of Meshuggah, I might add.
Periphery do use 5150s on the first album, but they make them sound djenty
>>
>>53874346
Can't tell if you're baiting or just don't know shit.
>>
>>53874346

You're misinterpreting that. It's named after the sound of one specific guitar technique, not the sound of the overall guitar tone. You can "djent" on practically any guitar and amp with enough distortion.
>>
>>53874620
I don't think you play guitar, good sir. The djent thingy (i dont care whether its a tone or a sound or a technique or a genre or anything at this point) requires a low tuning and a long scale length, along with distortion

I've played guitar for close to ten years. You don't really 'need' any of that besides distortion. There are bands that djent just fine in Drop D, and you can do it in E standard if you really want to. Sure it's not going to sound as aggressive if you're playing a short scale guitar with 9 gauge strings on it, but it can be done. You're acting like the trends dictate whether or not it's possible to perform a specific type of guitar chug.

We're talking about djent. Heavy palm-muted extended power chord chugs. You're going to have to be more specific than that if you want to argue.
>>
>>53875130

I fucking hate Periphery and the way they've destroyed the metal scene. I can't find any metal musicians around here that don't drool over motherfucking 8 strings and axe fx. Every damn time they just chug around on the low string and literally can't play anything else. "I'm gonna tune your guitar to drop C real quick" Fuck you. Local metal scene? All pretentious ass "prog" djent bands with names after scientific or mathematical terms. If you are over the age of 17 and still listen to this crap then you should be ashamed.
>>
>>53875031

Pick up any baritine or 7 string guitar and tell me it doesn't automatically "djent." For any normal guitar you're gonna have to drop your E to at least C before you get any kind of "djent."
>>
>>53875163
So aparently people have been djenting since the late 80's? Thats not djent, thats just chugs

No, they haven't cause you don't know what djent tone is. Those are just chugs, this is djent tone https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UCICcbNM6AY
>>
>>53875371

That's meshuggah but that's definitely not djent.

Djent lowers standards for the new guys making metal
>>
>>53875432
>you don't know what djent tone is
>this is djent tone
There's no official tone you need to have to djent, you mong.

>>53875446
Once again, you're confusing djent (the technique) with djent (the derivative sub-genre)
>>
>>53875524

you're an idiot. wouldn't djent that's not djent just be fucking prog metal?
>>
>>53875524

>>
>>53875588
It tells kids "you dont have to write lines you just need to play the open F# off time with shitty clean vocals over it to be metal!"
>>
>>53875588

deathcore. I called them that even when I liked them when common's man collapse came out when I was like 17. Never fucking "djent" though. They just aren't
>>
>>53873383
If you weren't into pop punk, there's no way you could tolerate Spencer's dogshit vocals. P1 was cool, and the djent scene makes gems every now and again.
>>
>>53875625
But if they do that they will just be called shit and laughed at
>>
>>53875630
I would say Eclipse has some djent influence though
>>
Hasanyone else noticed that some djent bands are just playing jazz and shit and then have one or two token chuggy djent songs on their albums?

Emamples:
Mind Spun on The Joy of Motion by AAL (theres another one on that lbum but i forget it)
Narrow Salient on The Migration by StS (an album i like besides that song)
>>
>>53875685

Of course, because guess who produced it.
>>
>>53875645
No they aren't laughed at, look at Monuments.
>>
>>53875691
Please don't lump STS in with djent. Progressive metal is a thing and will continue to be once this fad dies.
>>
>>53875726
They've still got that one song on the new album dude, just to be in the djent community.
They chose to put it there.
>>
>>53875712
Yes I know it was Misha but songs like Punisher would be djent no matter who produced it

>>53875719
What? It's been a while since I listened to them but I remember them having lots of nice leads.
>>
Sweet OP, Juggernaut is my AOTY. They really raised the bar with this one. Their best release by far.
>>
>>53875822
Raised the djent bar, lowered the collective bar for metal
>>
>>53875836
>collective bar for metal
What the fuck does this even mean? For every good metal band, there are 10000 shitty ones. The 'bar' can't be lowered any more.
>>
>>53875571
The technique and the sub-genre are two different things, unfortunately given the same name.

The ironic thing is half the songs lumped under this "djent" sub-genre don't even have the technique used in them. It was stupid as fuck for people to latch onto that onomatopoeia as a sub-genre name.
>>
http://grooveshark.com/#!/profile/Mr+Butt+Destroyer/19087270/broadcast
>>
>>53875863
you are right about that. 10,000 djent bands, one Meshuggah.

It's lowering the bar cause an album that shitty and pandering is the new standard for kids getting into metal
>>
>>53875822
Periphery: 8/10
Periphery 2: 8.5/10
Clear EP: 5/10

I don't know why they haven't slapped the shit out of Spencer yet and told him to cut out the bitch-boy shit.
>>
>>53875899
>that shitty and pandering
wat

Juggernaut is the opposite of that. If they wanted to pander, they would just make their first album over and over again. They'd drop Spencer, etc. But they're artists. They came together to make something that none of them could make alone.
>new standard for kids getting into metal
And this is a bad thing how? Entry level != bad.

>>53875942
>Spencer hate
He's a fantastic vocalist, and Juggernaut is his best performance yet. Bitch-boy shit? Because he's a tenor? Jesus, what a terrible criticism. Regardless of taste, he's an incredibly ambitious singer with an impressive range.
>inb4 b-b-but he's WHINY

Oh and btw:
P1: 5/10
P2: 8/10
Clear: 5/10
Juggernaut: 8.5/10
