yes to both of these.

Although I love Tame Impala and that album OP, I can't say I think it's the best ever because it's too revival. I wouldn't say that they didn't do anything original but there isn't anything original enough for me to coin it best ever.

My other votes would be Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Congratulations, STGSTV, Maggot Brain, the Soft Bulletin, and Magical Mystery Tour.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Literally no Beatle's music was "written on acid". There's a few lines here and there that Lennon and George wrote while tripping, but they never went into the studio on acid and wrote/played music.

>Written during a period when Harrison was heavily influenced by his experimentation with the hallucinogenic drug LSD,[50][51] the lyrics to "Love You To" address the singer's desire for "immediate sexual gratification"...[52]

> "She Said She Said".[63] He praises the song's expression of the "primal urge" for innocence, which imbues the lyric with "complexity", as the speaker suffers through feelings of "inadequacy", "helplessness" and "profound fear".[63] In his opinion, the track's "intensity is palpable" and "the music is a direct connection to [Lennon's] psyche".[63][nb 6] "She Said She Said" marks the second time that a Beatles arrangement used a shifting metre, as the foundation of 4/4 briefly switches to 3/4 with the lyrics: "when I was a boy, everything was right", before settling back into 4/4.[66] Harrison later recalled that he helped Lennon finish the composition, which involved joining together three separate fragments of song.[67] The track was recorded during a single nine-hour session on 21 June, one day before the album's completion deadline.[68] MacDonald characterises "She Said She Said" as "the antithesis of McCartney's impeccable neatness" and "one of the most irregular things that Lennon ever wrote".[69] Owing to an argument in the studio, McCartney did not contribute to the recording, leaving Harrison to perform the bassline in addition to the lead guitar and harmony vocals.[70] The lyric was inspired in part by a conversation that Lennon and Harrison had with actor Peter Fonda in Los Angeles in August 1965, while all three were under the influence of LSD.[50]

obviously we don't mean the album was written and recorded while they were tripping, that is nonsensical and hardly happens outside of a few isolated cases.
They had taken the drugs and those experiences influenced the songs that were put on this record.
>>53772865
I disagree. As someone who's done his fair share of psychs I can see the influence that psychs had on these songs. Or at least, what seems to me.

Psychedelic is a blanket term more than anything. Yes, there's "psychedelic" as a genre, which is fine. But I think psychedelic is open to a lot of interpretation. I noticed someone posted Coil. I would consider them very psychedelic although most people probably wouldn't.

Damn, I don't do shrooms much but that does sound amazing. Last time I tripped it was on LSD, in the woods during fall while listening to this

Yoga - Megafauna
>lofi psychedelic black metal, ritual ambient
https://mega.co.nz/#!89QjQDzY!8BBka16dq0DWvxBLJawlw6mad0-HbIoWqCaBbQ53pBk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zpadBO1ilU

“Yoga takes the lo-fi practice-space recordings of the grimmest of the black metal outfits and combines it with the murky, muddy, noise-drenched blur of bands like Wold. But then takes it even further, rendering their sound so muted and lo-fidelity that even when they’re blasting furiously, it still sounds like a busted music box or an old black metal 78. And then there’s the fact that Yoga spends a good amount of their time not blasting blackly, but instead crafting synth-heavy Goblin-style film music, all throbbing bass and buzzing synths, creepy minor-key melodies and tons of haunting ambience. Those songs too are wreathed in a foggy, night-on-the-moors sort of murk, which ties those songs closely to the more blackened ones.
“The strange combination of grim and Goblin, the tripped-out fucked-up recording quality, the damaged arrangements, the looped hypnotic quality, turn Yoga into something totally out there, most likely way too abstract and psychedelic and deliriously lo-fi to appeal to folks looking for grim, buzzing blackness, but for the rest of you, if you can try to imagine some impossible mix of Philip Jeck, Wold, Goblin, the Skaters and some of the super weird EEE Records unblack bands, all produced by John Maus and Ariel Pink, then you will flip for this.”

I've never hallucinated anything that wasn't there. It just alters what you look at, so shit gets brighter, more colorful, kinda wobbly, and patterns appear when you look at chaotic things like carpet or textured ceilings.
You feel more connected to the world and people around you. It's easy to fall in love when you're tripping with someone. You feel like you understand things that normally don't make sense. It's like your brain is running a hundred times faster than normal.

Downsides include getting scared easily, freaking out, and realizing things that you didn't want to realize.

>>53773260
basically it alters your thought processes and the way you think. it kind of depends on the drug. the only one ive done is shrooms so i can speak for it. you're just kind of really confused while on shrooms. the trip starts out with you laughing about everything. certain patterns can look cool and objects can look as though they're "breathing." certain textures will feel/look really weird. you may feel a little paranoia but other than that you'll probably be alright. its a cool experience and id recommend it. i recently read that shrooms actually alter the connections in your brain which is why your thoughts are strange. check out erowid or theshroomery.org for trip reports and more info on psychedelics.

>>53773260
Having tripped LSD ~5 times:

visually everything starts to look like the album art of merriwether post pavillion

next, you start getting a little anxiety about your life and you realize all the mistakes you make on a daily basis

then, if you can come to terms with being a flawed person, you start to feel at peace with yourself and the world. patterns and images start to appear in objects around you; if not, you just ride out the anxiety for ~8 hours and everything feels like you vs. the world

it can go either way but both are refreshing in the end. Long-term effects are the occasional flashback, and it can trigger schiophrenia if it runs in your family. general downsides are a .01% chance of getting chronic flashbacks. This is called HPPD and it's no fun.

If you're interested in the dangers of LSD: http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/a-trip-that-doesnt-end
>>
>>53773497
this is a really good explanation.
If you're looking for a good first time psychedelic experience I'd recc get yourself a couple grams of mushrooms and eat those alone. I know it sounds scary to trip alone first time, but mushrooms are fairly easy to handle in lower doses and tripping with other people is not always as pleasant.

Psychedelics are all about distorting your perceptions. Our perceptions are the only thing we have to take in whats around us. Psychedelics make you realize how easily distorted those perceptions can be.
The psychedelic experience is kind of like a roller coaster. Anticipation, anxiety, followed by a euphoric bliss/nirvana where everything in the universe seems to be in tune. Everything makes complete sense, you teach yourself about everything. There can be some scary parts to a trip, but as long as you're in a comfortable setting and you have a positive mindset it can be one of the greatest experiences of your life, a spiritual awakening of sorts.

I like kind of blue, but it's definitely not as psychedelic as bitches brew.

pic related is arguably better than bitches brew. I go back and forth tbh. Little Church, best acid song ever?

so true. The first time I took acid I remember listening to great gig in the sky while my sober friend was driving us around. I was just looking at the sky and in heaven. One of my go to tripping albums, lyrically and conceptually it's a perfect tripping album
>>
>>53773700
when I trip to this album all I think of is mainstream hippie culture and how trashy it has become. jazz albums don't carry "muh western buddhism" garbage around with them. Dark Side is a great album but the fanbase is crummy
>>
>>53773700
The first time I tripped, I watched Dark Side of the Rainbow. I've never thought so deeply about anything in my whole life.

studio and production effects tend to characterize psychedelic music. the genre came out of the mid-late sixties when artists were starting to figure out how to use the studio as an instrument and how to approach production as an art form unto itself.

in practice, that means heavy panoramic spatialization, reverb, delay, chorus, flange, shit like that. add some unconventional song structures and a generally surreal or dreamy atmosphere, you got yourself some psych music

no offense, but that is fucking weak. that whole idea of playing the album over that movie is so fucking stupid imo

first time i tripped, i watched 8 1/2, 2001 a space odyssey, and the holy mountain

then listened to dark side

needless to say i was reborn, although i wouldnt call it spiritual it just sorta happened in my head

It's probably one of the best lounge prog/psych but WYWH did everything DSoTM set out to do.
>>
>>53773905
>it's not weak man. Not at all. It's pretty neat
it sounds gay as fuck-all, and i read the remaining band members thought it was stupid, and i would really not like to sully their genius like dark side with a film like wizard of oz or any other film
>>
>>53774173
conversing w people about bitches brew
>>
>>53774248
>WYWH did everything DSoTM set out to do.
yeah no, any colour you like is on dark side not WYWH

dark side is more experimental despite the studio treatment of the tracks, and WYWH is more straightfoward

as a band, WYWH is technically proficient, but dark side is the true superior floyd album, thats when they matched piper at the gates of dawns greatness after barrett left
>>
>>53774095
if you like synth heavy stuff, sure

personally, i agree with kevin, lonerism is about a guy realizing hes alone and innerspeaker is about him coming to terms with it

innerspeaker is lonerism 2.0 even though it came before
>>

>>53774305
I don't about you but calling experimental is kind of a stretch. The first four Pink Floyd records are more experimental then DSoTM.

But I definitely think DSoTM is way superior to anything after WYWH. I never understood this boards fascination with Animals.

Cosmic Vibrations rips off Long Long Long by George Harrisson

Among others.
I still like their music a lot though.
>>
>>53774462
Psych has seen various "revivals," but has been ongoing since the '60s in various underground scenes. I would say we're experiencing one of those little revivals right now, but it's all part of a larger psychedelic movement that's been going since acid was invented.
>>
>>53774489
>The first four Pink Floyd records are more experimental then DSoTM.
they're really not after hearing Dark Side

on the run alone is more experiemental than the first four floyd records, excluding piper at the gate of dawn, because interstellar overdrive is always going to be their peak as a band

Stop being elitist, Tame Impala Is popular for a reason. Even if you don't like them you can't say they are a bad band. Not without sounding like an idiot anyway. Even if you think another band is better (I prefer sleep or All them witches my self) you can't deny that they are at the head of Psychedelic right now.
>>
>>53773336
