His albums usually have a unifying genre. Midnite Vultures is disco revival. Morning Phase is Folk Rock. Sea Change is Indie Folk. His earlier albums are anti-folk.

I don't know if Morning Phase is the album that deserves A grammy, but BECK I think deserves it as an artist. He's been making great albums for years and years, as a performer, songwriter, everything.

Also, he's a great populist music story. Kids can dream of becoming Beck - he was just a broke-ass, scummy kid who loved a lot of folk shit, and just made music to make it until someone bothered to notice. I don't even know what being inspired by Beyonce would look like. Anyone like her is some untouchable fantasy idol thing that doesn't seem to have any connection to reality. The Album of the Year award has become a glorified Lifetime achievement award. If Beyonce wants one she can earn one the way Beck did and learn an instrument, rehearse a band and tour them tirelessly and prove her worth beyond one "great" album by making 3 or 4 more just like Beck did after he lost this award for 'Odelay' back in 1997 (to a French-Canadian woman btw). Might help if she also manages to find some clothes to put on and maybe start writing songs about things other than how horny she is and what life is like with a vagina. First of all, fuck this children's website for reminding me the Grammy's exist. They have never been relevant in music.

That said, I do think it's too bad Beck has had all this attention drawn to him (I mean, it must just be so embarrassing for him). It's so bizarre that this new generation of kids has access to information that previous generations could never even imagine and yet they all go and make idiots of themselves instead of looking something up first. Beck is one of the most critically acclaimed artists of all time, obviously he's going to win a Grammy now when he's too old to do anything relevant.
