Talk about what you use to listen to your records, tapes, mp3s, whatever. Show off, discuss and talk about what makes your music sound so great.
I guess I'll start
I buy refurbish and sell systems often. I had this one for a while
2 JBL G20
Receiver was mediocre, speakers are great. perfect bedroom levels
just got a Atari mx5050 and the capstan belt is broke or something. anyone familiar with changing belts or schematics?
I've changed a few belts before, this is a reel to reel I have. needed some restoration when I got it
it was like when we opened it the belt was kind of melted and we had to take it out with a q tip and a knife. thing is though Otari doesn't make these capstan belts anymore so its like trial and error. is there like a diagram where you can figure out how to get the belt on?
What happened is the rubber "devulcanized", so it turned to goo/tar. It's happened to me so many times and its a bitch to clean up.
what you need is a SAMS photofact. check out the site and punch in your model no# for a schemeatic if they have it.
nah they don't have it :/ i was thinking though to get a basic diagram of a tape machine and compare the two or whatever, trial and error. was a sweet deal though, traded a DBX compressor for it, they used to run $1000 plus in 2003
why do you have a picture of the Trump Chicago skyscraper? jesus balls
general statement, if anyone needs repair advice let me know, I might be able to help you out.
carrying on with more gear:
a 1971 Magnavox console. Built in speakers are muddy, but decent. I usually hook these up to external speakers and it sounds great. Recapped it a few years back.
>IT'S ALL SO SHINY
p-please just tell me that your record stack is less than 4 records high
If large cabinet speakers sound tinny, does it mean the receiver does not give enough power (receiver isn't great) or that the speakers themselves are too blame? Unfortunately these speakers seem to be solid wood so I never was able to take them apart.
What receiver? SA-500? Nice
The only record is mine on top, the ones underneath are junked/moldy etc. dont worry, I know how to stack
Even if they are solid wood you should be able to unscrew the speakers?
Tinny could be a speaker crossover issue or an receiver output issue. If headphones out sound ok on the receiver it is probably the speakers.
I meant to say amplifier, but it's like a 20 dollar new one I got just to test the speakers since I found them at goodwill. There are no headphone outputs.
I'll probably end up getting a good receiver soon so I will be able to use speakers instead of headphones. There are no visible screws on the speakers, they look as if someone used wood glue instead of screws. The cover on the front doesn't seem to come off either.
Could also be dirty pots (potentiometers). Get some contact cleaner (de oxit or QD cleaner) and spray the inside of every switch and knob
There is nothing sexier than good old gear in good condition.
Fuck smooth and shiny minimalism, this right here is the shit.
in the right environment, a piece of furniture like that could fit in well.
This was by far my favorite thing I ever owned. A 70s Panasonic system. Cool green fishbowl dials.
Shame I had to sell it
quality was so-so, but it was pretty unique in styling.
Had this at one point too before it died. an early 70s 4-channel receiver by a no-name brand
I posted this in another thread earlier, I want to get into record collecting and my parents have these three turntables lying around collecting dust. I'm gonna pick one to take with me while I'm in town, they are a Dual CS505-3, a Phillips 312 and a Pioneer PL-5160.
I have speakers and an amp ready for it, just no idea which one is the best.
>tfw no visitors to listen to records and radio with
Just replaced the shitty chrome bridge on my MIM Tele with a American brass bridge.
Night and fucking day, plays ten times better and sounds a thousand times better, tuning is SLIGHTLY less stable but negligible unless you're bending a ridiculous amount, could be because I haven't finetuned it yet.
drunk guy here i have sherwood and technics things aslso fisher speaks
>using shitty headphones with poor reproduction creating an unfaithful sound reproduction
>IM JUST HERE FOR THE MUSIC GUYS
thats like wearing scratched dirty glasses and saying I wear them because I care about seeing, not how well I can see.
haha yeah me and the gf
Great, feel free to tell me WHICH albums I have stacked horizontally. Tell me about how wrong I am for doing that. Tell me more about how you know more than I do about those shitty albums I stacked horizontally.
>it's okay to stack records on top of eachother if they're bad
Then why do you have them you numbnuts jackass? As for why you are wrong for doing it:
Any idiot knows this, yet your offering to give advice about audio related shit. It's hilarious. Take your setup back to the salvation army and stop ruining records.
Picked this up today for 15 bucks at goodwill
Its missing a cartridge and stylus but everything else is fully functional, the belt is in good shape.
Apart from a dinged up dust cover and peeling veneer on the plinth its in great shape, cleaned up nice.
I use a marantz 2238b with either Beyerdynamic dt770 pros, grado sr80i, or audiotechnica a700.
