are you talking about (vocoder disco) by chance? if so i got that one. it's slick and when i first started a playlist of all the first 57 songs it started off (vocoder disco) and then 1 70s tune, the latter of which i STILL believe is just about perfect and truly one of the standouts of this release.

it's not complex at all... it's simple and straightforward. there aren't 264 different aggro drum patterns waiting to have their moment in the sun like you have with songs like 34 5 P e, moreover you just have simple funky/hiphoppish breaks doing their thing and march-a-march-marching along to one of those vintage aphex twin synthlines.

70s tune is kind of like when they first reconstruct milla in the 5th element and the one guy in the lab is standing there all DURRRRR like "she's......perfect!"

anyways we seem to be holding pat @ 150 for awhile, so naturally that means once i get used to bumping all of the current jams there's going to be 15 more b4 i go to bed tonight. it's quite possible that this leak never ends and we end up with 500+ songs, isnt it?

it's almost like aphex twin was chained up to a studio in buckingham palace and forced to work round the clock because he's queen elizabeth's favorite musician or something.

WARNING TO EVERYONE ELSE: i am not just someone prone to TLDR, i am the veritable norse fucking god of TLDR. so even if takes a few messages i'm going to do my best to tell this story, which again is fortified by only years of speculation and assumption on my part having been one of the world's foremost aphex twin fans for a little over 20 years now.

a long time in a galaxy far far away aphex twin got to tour america with bjork circa 1994-95. i know if you get on slsk and search there's an "aphex twin live @ the cabaret metro" mp3 bootleg that exists from that tour when he played the metro in chicago.... so i'm guessing that richard got to spend enough time with bjork on the tour to get to know her fairly well, and from many accounts i've heard over tthe years she can be a pretty big diva/bitch/etc.... tho in fairness many say she got really cunty after she had that crazy stalker superfan try to blow up her apartment or whatever. it happens.

so back when the come to daddy EP was coming out warp records had a website for the EP on warp.com. they had a list of "things richard has been doing lately" and a list of "things richard hasn't been doing lately". i can't find any sort of archive of the old warp pages via a google web search, but from what i remember it was a bunch of goofy things that were kind of what we'd call LOLRANDOM nowadays, but of course thoughtful and intelligent and cheeky-funny.

prominently listed under "things richard hasn't done lately" was "get back to bjork about producing that album for her" -- which was some OOOOHHHHH SNAPS / SHOTS FIRED! territory at least to a hapless little 16-17 year old me who chortled upon reading that.

legend has it that bjork went to aphex twin first then squarepusher 2nd to produce her then-new-LP, which i believe ended up being the drum-n-bass/y one that had her ex-bf goldie and others doing the "hip-n-now" production for it

so evidently bjork was willing to let richard back into her circle of trust as she had a show in london/UK/something and she decided to let aphex twin open up for her under the name of "dj smojphace" --- and he was given something like an hour or two of DJ time before bjork was to come out and play....

so just think of it.... all those intro-2-cool-music-101 little bjork superfangirls and all the (presumably) twinky boys who wanna fuck em are packing the venue because THE LEGENDARY APHEX TWIN is djing before bjork! HOW AWESOME IS THAT! yeah! (aside, i dated a bjork chick once. she had a "b" lower case sticker on her window... i left her with a vinyl copy of analord 10" picture disc so she had a capital 7\ to remind her and any future lovers that a true 7\lpha male had been all up in that shit, room or women or otherwise =) and of course my ex was the upper 1%ile of bjork fangirls. they tend to suck.

so anyways given a canvas of stupid kids, dj smojphace came out and proceeded to play an hour or two of 100% total beatless/free-form ear-shattering noise. it was described to sound like cacophonies of dogs barking to babies crying to jet engines going full blast to some sort of otherworldly aggro noise beyond jet engines going RAAAAHJHDFKASHDFKSDHFS

...and since he had an hour or two to dj b4 bjork came out, he was able ot go longform with it for 1-2hrs of total aural feces!

so anyways, i remember the night it happened because i was a whattem guy back when it was the place to be (you know it all went to shit after we ran skytree and pen expers off the board, what can i say? =) so we were able to watch on bjork mesage boards later that night as angry bjork fanboys/fangirls came home like WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?!?! THIS APHEX TWIN IS A PIECE OF SHIT.... THAT'S NO MUSICAL LEGEND!!! the best part was that i remember reading that the setup was that aphex was standing behind some curtains that were parted right in front of him, but only enough to just have his hands come out and fiddle with a laptop/mixer/gear/whatever. so basically it wasn't like "oh there he is mugging it up on stage" -- he was rather anonymous and faceless as you weren't seeing "aphex twin" as much as you were seeing "dj smojphace"

and the fact that this guy managed to troll the ever-living shit out of bjork fans by playing 1-2hrs of ear-melting total shit super-aggro-hellish-noise = why i consider this dude to be my personal music hero. seriously, who doesn't want to be given a platform like that where you can go out and troll the ever-living shit out of a chick who ~10 years later has you opening for her royal bjorkness again?

these hijinks shall ensure that dj smojphace shall forever go down in legend and lore.... that is unless you grew up thinking chris moss acid was smojphace in which case i feel sorry for you.
