I still like them though :) I think the annoying voices can be charming, I'm just saying it's not terrible to dislike it. I've listened to all of them. I prefer female vocals, but I still dig some male vocals too. I don't like all of those albums anyway, it's a chart for influential and popular shoegaze albums not necessarily my favorites, if you have a suggestion for change let me know. swervedriver is one of my least favorite shoegaze bands but it's still up there for example

The first half of the last track on that album reminds me of like foxing or the brave little abacus type stuff almost. i haven't heard a shoegaze album which this much of a focus on songwriting

When I was 17 or so I was walking home when I heard a band playing in this basement, I hung outside for a minute and listened and 2 dudes came out and talked to me. One of them said he played drums and said the band name was Ringo Deathstarr
Not sure if they were fucking with me, if they didn't know Ringo Deathstarr was a band already, or if I met those dudes.

Disappears new album is great. Not really shoegaze, more of noisy psych rock/post-punk, but still one of my favorite releases this year.

New Cloakroom is pretty good.

I feel like I haven't heard enough people discuss that Ceremony EP that drop a while ago. I'm really loving the sound they've been going with for the last couple releases. Usually, I'm not that into Ceremony, they can get a little too poppy for me, and some of the lyrics are pretty bad, even now, but man, they're sounding lo-fi, their guitars are noisy, they're keeping it high-energy, It's really great.

I actually don't like the vocals on Isn't Anything as much as the ones on Loveless. With Loveless, the vocals sort of add to the mood and atmosphere, and I felt it kind of did the opposite on Isn't Anything.

What's the best Astrobrite album? I don't think I gave them a fair chance.

I'm mostly sick of all these limp-dicked indie bands trying to do dream pop like Beach House, School of Seven Bells, etc. I need something better.

This is one of the few albums that I think is worthwhile in the shoegaze/dream pop sphere.

But does anyone else think it sometimes sounds like shit? Just really muddy and low quality.

My opinion:
Whitenoise Superstar > Pinkshinyultrablast > Super Crush > One Hit Wonder > Crush > All The Stars Will Fall > Boombox Supernova

Astrobrite is pretty heavy on the ambient-ish stuff though if you consider that limp-dicky. But damn he brings the noise with it. Also, whitenoise superstar is pretty unconventional, if you want something more straightforward I'd go directly to pinkshiny.
